This $10 Walmart Knife Broke the Internet!

- Link* tinyurl.com/42... Ok, so it's not actually a Benchmade but it's clearly a clone of the Benchmade Bugout right down to the Axis style lock and at $10 it's hard to find fault with it. Sure the handle feels like cheap plastic and it doesn't have the fit or finish of the original but it has D2 steel which for $10 is a great addition and with the orange scales it makes it easy to find even at the bottom of the deepest bags. I want to hate this knife but the bargain bear in me loves it.

I broke my rule of no expensive knives and bought a benchmade. Lost it 3 weeks later. Only knife i ever lost. Serves me right
same thing happened to me with sunglasses haha
You know I used to always lose my sunglasses till I started buying expensive ones and now I ALWAYS know where they are đ
Probably stolen if you think about it. đ€
Benchmade is against the second amendment... No need to buy their products ever
For me a EDC knife has to be good enough to do the job , easy to resharpen , and cheap enough that if I lose it or break it no big deal just get another
D2 is tool steel. Pretty good metal for a ten dollar knife. There are still plenty of knives approaching 50 dollars with back locks that use this metal. It will rust if you let it, but it is absolutely serviceable.
Darn right it's worth it! Box cutter, letter opener, wire stripper, a less expensive working person's knife. There was a custom knife maker, some years back not too far from here, that used D2 exclusively. My understanding is heat treating is a little tricky. He used the stock removal method then sent'em out for professional heat treating.
STOCKING STUFFER, BABY. đ đđș
I bought 3 of these, They are super light which is actually nice. The blade is super sharp. all 3 of them were solid out of the box nothing loose or rattling. doesnt open in my pocket and when you go to open it you just need a light flip
Seen multiple people say they dull fast which I get since itâs $10
@@atobg_ @knivesIguess streamed a test where he cut cardboard with one for 8 hours before the edge was gone, used another and cut for 6 hours and had to quit because he was too tired, said it still had some edge left. It may depend on the individual knife, which kind of sucks, but apparently some of them have some pretty good edge retention.
Ozark Trail is surprisingly good for what it is. They have really stepped it up in the past several years.
Their newer knockoff Stanley (look up Ozark trail 30 oz with swivel handle) is a great bottle. Fits in cup holders, doesn't spill when tipped, holds ice for 2 +days. Less than half the price of a Stanley.
Well I have 40 knives I dont use but you made me impulse buy another one đ damnit
Best $10 knife I have seen. Soon to be the best $12 knife, because they should sell a ton of them at $10. That's worth buying more than one just to keep in convenient places.
I purchased one of these on Wednesday August 21st and I loved it so much I purchased another one on Saturday August 24th. This definitely will be the best budget knife of 2024 for sure.
In at least one way, the Walmart knife is better than the Benchmade: it has full-length inner metal scales, whereas the Benchmade Bugout has metal plates near the hinge, but they only go about a third of the length of the handle, and the G10 scales provide the structural strength for the knife. This makes the Bugout and its clones kind of flexy/creaky, in a bad way. The Walmart knife is much more rigid.
Knives are a lot like cameras: the best one is the one you have with you when you need it (your phone camera usually ). Three or four $10 knives placed in the car, the truck, the shop and the house may well be the best knife there is.
I'm never in such an extreme situation I need the very best of anything. I try to avoid sketchy situations. I'm pretty good at managing to do that too.
There is absolutely no reason to buy an expensive knife except for vanity. I've carried a cheap ridge runner knife for around 12 years, think i paid $13-15.
13-15 12 years ago is like 35 today dollars LMAO......we are so screwed
I have a cheap Smith and Wesson knife I got for free over a decade ago from Sears and it is awesome, still going strong. I love my Kershaw also but the Smith and Wesson is great.
@@1stfloorguy59 budk and eBay still has them for only a couple of dollars more than I paid back then. But yeah inflation is destroying everything.
Of course people will argue this. I let my father carry a more expensive knife of mine for deer season .he's gutted hundreds of deer in his life and he said it was the best he ever used. And didn't have to resharpen it. I gave it to him.
If you're a collector and you want nice display pieces then you need pricey items. But for basic utility use you don't need the top of the pops for that. You can cut a box open with a butter knife.
I ordered one earlier this week, non available in any store in a 50 mile radius. They took my order.showed in stock, would be delivered in 2 days. $10 plus tax. 24 hours later got an email that my order was cancelled..... Looks like a pretty good deal if you can get one.
EDC knife should be usable and cheap enough to not cry when you do lose it, which you will if it is a EDC.
Been a knife collector and heavy user of knives for 40 years. And I can't think of a thing you should be doing with a $250 knife that a $30 knife can't do just as well. It's our job to maintain our blades according to the needs of that blade. The only distinction I make is between "real" knives and "novelty" knives. If a person is doing much more than that, then they've been suckered by the industry.
I bought one for my glove box. The lock feels a little gritty, and the scales are slightly different colors; but for $10 I can live with that.
Time's are tough right now, I'm not surprised a quality knife at $10 is sold out! I'm eagerly awaiting them to be back in stock!
I was able to order 4 this morning after waiting and checking daily for a week.
Your grandfatherâs knife reminds me of the Barlow knives I had as a kid. Itâs cool.
Brother, you have become my favorite, down to earth, tool review channel. Keep up the great content.
I picked one up yesterday at the Bartow, Florida Walmart.
Not a knife snob.
Actually prefer this over the Icon knife. Just feels better. Of course I like my Kershaw knives.
You bought the last five didn't you? đ
Funny, I too donât care for thumb studs or use pocket clips very often.
Good luck finding one now.
It feels better in hand than the real bugout! The scales are stronger. You can squeeze together the bugout scales and the scales are contoured better on the Walmart special. Honestly it deserves all the attention itâs getting.
Absolutely going to buy one.
This is great replacement for the Benchmade I lost many years ago. Love it. I bought two and may go back for more. I can buy over 10 of these for the cost of one Benchmade.
Thanks. Found 4 tonight on their site for $42.xx. Supposed to arrive tomorrow. We'll see. Excited to find out!!
I wish theyâd make more knives with washers instead of ball bearings. Theyâre fun to break in, and can be pretty smooth, plus can handle dirt etc better than ball bearings.
Thanks, Jeff, but I probably have enough cheap knives. I love your humor! I literally laughed out loud, and that's rare! đđđđđâ€â€â€â€â€
Watched the video and ordered 3 of them. One for each vehicle, and got the third for my buddy. Thanks!
CZcamsrs are making it super hard for us regular folks to get anything nice nowadays you guys just create frenzies
No think it through the rest the way. We find a lot of unknown stuff you wouldâve never heard about make it popular and while it might be hard to get it first after the initial rush, they make more of them and itâs everywhere in the build up product lines and it creates competition and lowers prices across the board.
I was able to order 4 this morning for the first time since they sold out.
I bought one today snd its pretty good for a $10 knife.
Just checked locally near Avondale, AZ. Sold out. Hopefully they stock again soon.
Ordered 13 hours ago with 3 in stock and informed 2 hours ago that it will be delayed. Not surprised with the hype.... đ
This review was tight!
I've been carrying the $10 harbor freight knife and have been completely happy with it. Got it 30% off too...
I saw this yesterday morning via another channel, whereupon I immediately went to the Walmart website where it said my local WM had them in stock, and ordered 2 for pickup. Grabbed them an hour later, and "No" its not a Benchmade, but my daughters fiancé who is a "Benchmade-aholic" had to agree that it was a great copy for just 10 bucks!
Mine was able to cleanly shave the hairs on my arm, right out of the package. For the money, these will make great "Beat up knives"/"Throw in the Toolbox/Truck" AND as good "Stocking Stuffers" at Christmas time. No, not a Benchmade, but the sales tax on the Benchmade equivalent will be double what you'll pay for this "Budget Benchmade" ..
It's modern-day super-budget D2. Good luck being able to re-sharpen it when it gets dull. Also, that's assuming the blade doesn't snap in half because it has the brittleness of untempered glass! You can't buy a knife with real, old-fashioned, premium D2 that has been properly heat-treated for only $10.
đEvery time someone says "They can't do that" someone turns around and does just that. Time and technology march on.
@@denoftools
To make a garbage knife? Okay, fair enough.
Completely fine knife that does punch a bit above it's price point. I carried it for over a week or so, it did dual kind quick but sharpened easily. It's one of my backpack knifes now
Got mine today in Joliet they had 5 more
I've been carrying a D2 steel folder for over 20 years at work. Happens to be a Benchmade also. At the time, I thought it was super steel. Still a great knife. This Walmart knife seems like a good deal.
Bought 3 the other day. (All they had) The only store out of 6 or 7 stores within about a 75 mile radius... Will keep one(1) the other two will be stocking stuffers later this year... 10 bucks, my only complaint the slide lock is a bit rough but that will smooth out with use ?& marvel mystery oil!
Mine has them in stock, might grab one to have a nice beater knife
Seven years ago, @ a Wal-Mart, a rack of knives caught my eye>$3.00!!!! I bot two, same flipper, 2.75 inch, tanto-style blade, pocket-clip.=$3.00!!! One is still in drawer/unopened. The other I have carried, EVERYDAY( a true EDC) since. I have lost it TEN TIMES/Found it Eleven times(I found it @ Wal-Mart+lost it ten times) I have drawers/shelves/ boxes/etc of other knives(currently 187, down from 1,435) collected from decades of flea-mktng/trading.) But, this $3.00 ??brand?? continues to be my EDC, cuz it does the job!!
If you only came out with this video yesterday. It would have saved me $255. I bought the Kershaw livewire with ultem top.
The Kershaw livewire is a damn fine knife for the money. Iâve got a od green one with the tumbled finish blade. Got two of the ozark trail axis locks too. They are pretty ok for 10$.
$10 and D2 steel? OK, disposable knife for each pack, toolbox, glove box.
Been carrying a benchmade for years. Great knife
Started seeing all the reviews on this knife, got four today, lol itâs a good knife
I picked up two of the Ozark Trail knives. Had to disassemble both and debur/polish the "axis" lock slider. Both were binding due to a square edge on the inner flanges rubbing on the inner scales. After that completed they are pretty decent knives for $10.
I've had mine 4 days and its already paid for itself.
Sharp, heft, handy.
Budget knife of the year contender. Nothing else, except Harbor Freightâs ICON knife, should be in the conversation. âNuff said! đ
Saw a video on this knife Saturday, went to my local Wal-Mart and bought one đ they had 5, 3 had mismatched scales (orange and burnt orange? Not super noticeable) 2 had matching scales .. I bought one, againt my "no Chinese knives" rule.. and have been carrying it since.. looking for something to cut đ keep needing my pliers though..
Looks like a decent hammer/prybar
The difference is a Butterfly đŠ and $200
Sold out
As a knife nerd this knife doesnât bother me. The benchmade fakes that look almost identical to actual benchmade models and are using the butterfly logo are what piss me off because itâs a scam. Ozark trail is only using the axis-style lock on their own design and their own logo.
I found three of these at the Walmart in Perryville MO today. I only got two because I didn't want to be an arse hole.
âSuper easy , barely an inconvenienceââŠâŠRyan George is spreadingâŠ
yeah, saw them on the shelf then -- GONE!
gone online too...
heard plus & minus...
but overall for $10 it sounds good for a throw-away knife
you don't have to worry about loosing it
Got 2 and they are a great knife for the price.
I had to see what all the hype was about, so I bought one too. Yeah, it's hard, probably impossible, to beat for $10. I also did a video on it, and found only a couple of negatives; blade play (easily cured with a T8 bit), and rough area on the blade where crossbar lock (seems to be the preferred generic term) starts to engage the blade. People worry about D2 rusting, but never happened to me on several knives I own (but I'm in New Mexico). Not stainless, but the chromium content is almost high enough to qualify. The only thing I remember from a class in metallurgy is that there is no such thing as a truly stainless steel, though some come very close.
Thanks for sharing the video It works great for the 10 bucks yeah I couldn't see Karen a bench made knife for $275 in my pocket for dang sure
I picked up three this morning. It was no where to be found two days ago.
It certainly wont replace my Benchmade 940. But I could see taking it camping, or having it in the truck, or giving them to my Scouting boys. And Benchmade used to sell Griptillians with D2 for $100.
I live in a podunk town where most of the residents wouldnât SEEM to know about these, but apparently they do because theyâre sold out here too.
I see you are a fan of Pitch Meeting :D
It says they are in stock at my local Walmart.
Not for long.
I bought 2 gave one to a coworker. I've told a few people now that if they had these when I was I'm high school and huge into knives. I would have never gotten into Benchmade or any other high end knives. I just took mine to work and use it as a work knife not going to carry it daily. It's a cool knife though regardless.
It looks like it would be a good $10 knife. I think I still would prefer the Gordon 2-9/100 in. Drop Point Pocket Knife (SKU 57584) at Harbor Freight for $9.99. It has an 8Cr13MoV stainless blade, and it must be well received (96% of customers would recommend), and I would already own one, but my HF is always out-of-stock when I visit.
And for the record: I'm in that "Knife Snob that has lost expensive knives so now is OK with 'economical' knives" camp.
It's been out of stock online for days.
Dont think any local stores have it in stock even...gotta order online, but ill wait soon when i need a few things.

D2 steel , orange, $10, yes. My backpacking watch has an orange band. Orange is an easy color to see in the wild. And D2 is perfectly serviceable steel for a knife.
Iâve daily carried a bugout for about 3 years and recently replaced it with a Kershaw Iridium. The bugout is overall a solid knife for EDC, but truth be told these ultralight handle EDCâs with thin blades have limited utility and I often found myself hesitant to use it for anything that might require prying, stabbing or torquing. Donât expect a knife like this to do much more than open boxes, theyâre just not built tough, and thatâs by design.
I've had my old timer knife for 10 years. For work, i have used the milwaukee knife for years. I doubt I'd ever see the value of a high-end knife.
WOW! Just saw a knife guy do a good review of this just minutes ago...
And some knife guy tested this and it outlasted others on his cardboard test like others were 4hr!? This one 7 hrs!?
All his viewers had or was about to have 1! Some r a little lose out the pack but u tighten it up like half a turn exactly and bam!!
So if u get one lose just tighten half a turn!
Then I come back began to scroll again and hoping u will see and do a review of it and DAMN THERE U R DOING IT ALREADY!!
I DEF PLAN TO GET ONE ASAP!!
I'm like 10 min from WM and planning to go out maybe later tom or major early Tue! Got shit to do!! And I plan to stop see if mine has any!?
And past yr?? Esp lately knives seem to find me!!?? I AM NOT A COLLECTOR!! But since I began my bld began to travel change they r finding their way to me! Like most good or injured dogs seem to!!??
1st good I got liked I found for free DD my new local HF where I used to be! Along with many new jewels I got doing so I also got my great 45 use for everything knife!!
So it was free! Then I told u here about being at HF here and dude behind me saw me eyeing and reviewing the icon knife which I ABSOLUTELY LOVEEE PLAN TO GET!!! And so he whipped out his asked me what I thought of it I told him he gave it to me!! 85D knife!!!! FREE to me!
Got a nice blk one made by Husky super cheap about same price as this one I think?? And I like it!
And I think I got 2 other knives hidden back here also! I got shit hidden all over! One needs things of protection hidden all over when 1 camps alone full time! Or travels alone!?
Anyways this and the ICON r definitely on my get list!!!
For me I'm on a tight budget!!! I can't spend big bucks esp on a knife!! But hey if it comes for free or 10 bucks I'm good!!đ đ
The Den of Tools, cool content keep it up dude
Already out of stock @ Walmart. They need to send you a check!
Put in in my cart at the start of the video and by the time i went to check out they where sold out đ
I have one and I will buy out more soon as they come in . I posted one on marketplace for 40$ and got bites .lol
D2 holds an edgeâŠ
Sold out everywhere.
BTW, another great video, Jeff!
Picked one up today my Walmart had 50 on the shelf
What Walmart?
@@philochristos woodland California
Had one in my cart. Before I could check out it was out of stockđą
I like my $35 Gerber for EDC but for ten bucks, I will try it as an alternate for when I get a chance to get one.
My worries with it is the fraud with d2 lately
I bought one immediately after seeing it last week. Agree about the feel, the scales are not good quality (go figure)- whoever starts making aftermarket ones will make bank. If I could get some skinnier micarta or G10 scales it would make it into a daily carry for me.
Thatâs the reason I paint all my firearms orange đ đ
I was waiting for a DOTW video not a knife of the year video
I got two of them yesterday
I'm back having gotten a couple and played around with them.
They are absolutely based on the benchmate bugout. Not up for discussion.
However, they cost 6% of water bug out costs. Honestly, I compare them to at least 20% of a bugout so far.
Now I have this weird brain thing. And as a result, I'm pretty decent at math. So I'm gonna assume I'm correct when I say getting it for 6% the cost is worth it.
Also, if you're near my Walmart, get lost. The rest of those are mine.
It's not if it's as good, it's whether or not it's good enough. If it holds an edge and the lock doesn't collapse it's good enough.
Iâm unlikely to give up my Kershaw with Emerson Wave. If only they would combine the wave with an axis lock.
D2 is one of my preferred steels. Especially since Iâve even had actual stainless corrode on me.
I like orange, too.
Sold Out
I stick with my Icon.
I looked at a Benchmade Bugout at a gun store a while back and it felt like a $10 knife in my hand as well. The cheap plastic handle made the knife unbalanced and it didn't feel like a quality knife. I like my Kershaw.
I had to jump on the wave and got 2 . But dealing with Walmart employees to get the key to open the case I would of paid 100 dollars rather then deal with that for an hour and a half đ so the knife yes !!! Walmart noooo đ€·ââïž
hell Jeff the best knives i've got are cheap as or cheaper than a Buck 110 or 119!! and after benchmade helped the cops destroy guns i wouldn't piss on that company to save the universe!!!
good luck getting one, and I doubt they will sell more at that price
Can't seem to get my hands on one! I'm trying to order one but they're out of stock!
I'm in Middle Tennessee. I haven't seen the knife in our Walmart BUT I ordered one on line and had it brought right out to my car a couple of hours later,, at the same store. Do they hide them in the back? I don't know. I'll ask when I go back!
