I love how Graham interviews people he understands the art he does not interrupt his guests very professional then he follows up with clear thoughtful questions.
Yeah I enjoy Grahams interviews he is very good at his job.
He’s the goat
He actually listens
Me too he also seems like he is actually listening
literally interrupted Wayne for the first 20 seconds of him trying to answer as he blundered his own awkward joke.
Graham is such a likable tool.
He’s a frat bro. But a helpful frat bro
Ali 😂
he's a routine meal
lol
@EyeWitnessChina ah. Yes. Tell us alpha male about all the manly things you do.
This is probably the best advertisement for Diet Coke and Snickers ever made.
Warren Buffett drinks diet coke all day and Hugh Hefner drank about 20 per day, while also crushing over ten candy bars per day Must be something to it, as I am always trying to quit diet soda, but my body tell me it wants it.
@@tomdallas3690 being happy has more to do with longevity than a rigid lifestyle of dieting and restrictions.
There should be a Last Dance type documentary about Gretzkys career
Definitely
It wouldn't be the same, because he didn't go out a Stanley Cup winner. Did you see the 30 for 30 on The Trade?
@@NJGuy1973 but he did go out with an insane amount of records that probably won't be broken anytime soon. I'd say that's good enough personally
@@Fraustyy There definitely should be a documentary, especially about his early life.
You mean like the make my legacy larger than it is Jordan one? Chuckle...they can’t even acknowledge he’s the Goat because nobody of color is there yet. We’ll just dismiss the sport all together. 👍🏻🍻
You heard it all hear folks: from Gretzky to Kessel the trick is to eat hot dogs and the Cups and glory will come.
That Kessel hot dog story was made up. Kessel loves his nachos
Praise be
Here?
@Mr. X source?
It’s the Babe Ruth diet!
4 hot dogs and Diet cokes while Tom Brady eats avocado ice cream.
gretzky played in the nhl for 20 seasons, brady has 19 currently
Right lol
Dennis Menace vegan hot dogs?
To each, his own, eh? What works.
Tom brady is unlikeable
I remember when composite sticks were first introduced. Wayne broke the blade off at a morning skate, cursed and threw the whole works into the stands - I retrieved it and got him to autograph the blade and shaft.
Hearing this, I can only imagine the frustration he felt with his equipment not being right.
Was this when he played for the Kings? I remember he had a composite stick in the early 90's.
@@murray1978 Early 90's were Aluminum hockey sticks, Composisits didn't start popping up till the mid 90's
I was told the “Wayne Gretzky” order at Tim Hortons is a coffee with 9 creams and 9 sugar......
Cuz his number is 99 not cuz he drank it
I ordered a Gretzky in Ontario and that's what they gave me.
lol, that would be so gross 🤣
Could honestly listen to these interviews with Wayne all day
Man, this guy was like a superhero to us. Even my mother knows and respects that guy. And she doesn’t speak a word English and never watched a hockey game...
There's a story of a Canadian soldier who was visiting a War Grave in the Netherlands and an old groundskeeper came up to the soldier with tears in his eyes...and exclaimed,'' I so sorry''...The soldier replied that they were volunteers just doing their duty.....The groundskeeper replies...No. I just heard Gretsky's leaving Canada and going to LA!
Me too. Never was into hockey nor did I ever watch a game but I knew who Gretzky was and always thought he was a great guy.
Damn, Wayne is a serious cat.
It takes a certain person and mind to be as good as he was.
He’s not a cat
All successful people are serious. They just don’t always portray themselves that way. Been telling people this for years.
@@corporatehousing5452 WRONG . Don't confuse "focus" with "serious".
Wayne is very professional in this interview... I just watched his interviews with Howard Stern and David Letterman
He seems so relaxed and such a humble gentleman.
I've seen this guy play live. I'm truly blessed.
I remember seeing Wayne play in 95 at the forum vs Pittsburgh they pulled the goalie out and Wayne got a break way and scored
It's funny you bring that up because I saw Pens vs. Kings at the Great Western Forum the very next season, and just the opposite happened. The empty netter put in by Super Mario Lemieux, which I didn't get to watch because it was a school night, and the last place anyone wanted to be was in Inglewood late at night. Plus, I lived in the valley. That 405 man...
I love the simplicity. I was a child of the 80's and I miss it. He's making me feel nostalgic.
I remember growing up in Alberta and watching the Battle of Alberta games with the entire family every Saturday night. Used to make a weekend out of it, spending time out at our extended families places, having a big meal, playing with my cousins, (I was born in 75) and as soon as the HNIC song came on we'd all get ready to watch the games.
It was such a big part of my youth, (as well as playing from 6-16) it was amazing watching Gretzky play. Even though I was a Habs/Rangers fan (my team was the Rangers lol), but I still remember some of the absolutely unreal plays Gretzky would make. It was unreal what he could do on the ice. And just the type of person he was off the ice. Really admired him. He's definitely earned his name. The Great One.
The good ol days. It was fun watching him play. Priiime Ticket.
“ “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” -Wayne Gretzky” -Michael Scott
unfortunately. ive lived most my life too afraid to miss.
This man best ever i wished I would had been older to watch him live more
I was a child of the 80’s and Gretzky was one of my hero’s. So glad I get to see him play in his prime.
The greatest hockey player ever was never able to bench press more than 175lbs. Dude is a real life wizard
try 140 lol
"You miss 100% of shots you dont take." Wayne Gretzky

TheWaySheGoes hahahahaha I was going to reply that then I clicked to see the replies and of course yours is there hahahahahah

tardkitty you're a bad person but that was hilarious.
I love how well spoken Wayne Gretzky has always been ! He is such a stand up man with class, integrity ,intelligence and an over abundance of talent . He is the reason I started watching hockey and he is the only
Reason I watched hockey when he left the Edmonton oilers I stopped watching hockey as there just was never another team who played like the oilers did !
@Graham Bensinger thank you for providing this video! i read up and found out you're from missouri, but you "show me" that from the state ur from, that you're more canadian than maybe you think lol 😉
you're very polite, respectful and you know when to talk and then let the subject answer your questions. and great interview flow too! 💙
thanks for all that you do. really appreciate the hockey interviews 🏒
cheers from southern ontario 🍁
Appreciate that, Steven! Hope all is well in Ontario!
@@GrahamBensinger thx. things are ok here. jut wish covid would buzz off lol. but since we here in all of ontario, are on a severe lockdown that's more quality time to watch ur videos. will continue to watch and support your channel. thanks again for all that you do and wishing you continued success, personally and professionally. 😁
I'm honoured to have lived in Gretzky's hometown of Brantford, Ontario!
Rahul N: Ran into him and his family 3 times in Lynden Park Mall around Christmas. Ran into him and Walt at the Tim Horton's on King George. Used to see Walt there all time.
carbs, protien, sodium, and stimulant drink = win
C T i mean yeah good for avoiding carbs
Ice J the hotdog bun is carbs
skeet shooter dont know what i was trying to say there, that was not my point
don't forget fat.
I’m not a hockey fan but I do like Gretzky. Such a humble guy.
Gordon Bombay came close to Gretzky's greatness it's a shame he suffered such a bad knee injury.
H Reuter wolf the dentist stansson would of been up their with the great one and gordon bombay.
if he would of only controlled his anger
Quack quack quack
@@geoortiz9787 ...Mr. Ducksworth
@@elguerokabron The fuck you say about my anger?
His multiple records with the Madison Waves still stand to this day.
Graham is an excellent interviewer because he lets the interviewee speak
Graham is such a great interviewer...Wayne is, by nature, rather closed off and very private which makes me re-watch this interview. Good stuff.
Jesus Saves...
& Gretzky scores on the rebound!*
* bumper sticker from the last Century.
By far...the most endearing athlete or celebrity I’ve ever met. Now Tiger, A-Rod, etc. DEWSCHBAGS....
Wayne was the NHL my childhood all over again
So true about the stick. I'm sure everyone else who's played hockey will tell you the same. When you get a new twig, you cut it down and think it looks right. Play around with it and it feels completely foreign. You cut it down by a quarter inch and it just feels perfect.
Technology and nutrition are so much different from his era to today. Today it is a science, then and since the beginning of modern day sports, it was about will, skill and something athletes are limited to today with micromanaging coaching and systems, creativity, it no longer exists. Glen Sather said this.
Guy Lafleur would chain smoke a 1/2 pack of Export A's between periods!!....then go out a complete another Hat-trick.🐇🏒💨
You know he's a legend when Gretzky is first thing I think of when I've hockey references come up
In around 1991 or 1992 my dad and his wife had season tickets to the Kings and on occasion my brother and I would get to go. One time there was a night Wayne was out, and it's not like today you can't google that you find out at the game he's not playing. Well he was sitting a few rows over amongst common folk but in a little bit of a private area with Bruce McNall and so my bro and I went to get an autograph........we had nothing for him to sign so we used our white T shirts and that was such a cool moment in time. Wayne Gretzky was like a God at that time.
One more year!!!
Wayne Gretzky the 🐐 of 🐐s
The Great One ☝🏼
Grew up in Texas. Had no hockey in school. Now i love hockey. Wish so bad i grew up playing it. I missed out. Play one for me, will ya?
Wearing a toque! Glad to see he still uses his Canadian vocabulary.
Hip kids in Michigan say Toque.
What’s a toque?
Dom Wings I had to look it up! I think, knit hat. For the winter! Like a beanie. I think it’s spelled tuque whereas toque is a different hat more traditional, no brim! I don’t really know but, I came back to this video because I wanted to see if anyone else knew hahaha! It stuck in my mind for like a month!!!!
@@domwings4329 Yes a winter hat, usually knit and just as Morgan said pretty much just a different name for beanie. I would say most commonly used in the northeast. I grew up in Vermont right on the Canadian border and I had never heard the term beanie until I moved away.
Reminds me of the story about Kobe being able to tell that a hoop in the arena was off by a quarter of an inch
Great eats like champion
Legend
Wayne Gretzky is so much better than the rest of eternity.
His description of knowing his equipment so well that he could tell if anything was off reminds me of what I’ve heard about training people to spot counterfeit money. I heard they look at bill after bill of legit money over and over for days until the image is seared into their consciousness and subconscious. Then when anything counterfeit is introduced, the difference is glaringly obvious. A friend of mine was masterful at finding four leaf clovers. His system was “look for a break in the pattern”.
Awesome
Wayne is the man.
The Most Dominant Athlete Ever & it's not even close. THE GOAT 🐐
I never liked hockey. But loved Gretzky
4 Hot Dogs/coke (Inputs) = 2-3 points.
“I was holding a stick as often as I was wearing a toque”
Eh bud
Gong show over here bud
"I was holding a hockey stick as much as I was wearing a toque"
What a hilarious quote
#LEGEND
Snow skiing
Always had a
“Snickers”
In pocket
Although I never watched a hockey game I sure knew the names of Bobby Orr & Wayne Gretzky.
Amazing hair
All those 7-up commercials early in his career and he confesses he drank Diet Coke 🤩
That's the extent of scandals with Gretzky. :-)
Good interview. This isn't a sport we understand in the UK. But greatness transcends the ignorance of the viewer.
On food and snacks.... He is spot on. On a bicycle I used flapjack, tea buns, bananas and Snickers bars. And water.
Now... after the introduction of sport drinks and gels.... I still use the same fuel on a ride.
The only people I see with large bottles of sport drinks are obese teens gallumphing home from a lazy day at school.
Gretzky was (and remains) a great.
I write as a man who has worn skates once, aged about eight. Over fifty years ago. 😊😐☹️
Wayne doesnt even look an athlete. More like a eastern European diplomat lol.
nice one moron. maybe the fact that he retired 20 years ago and is almost 60 makes a difference?
😂😂😂😂
Gretzky would be a fine diplomat for any country.
Well his dad is from Ukraine
@@LeotheCatPlus his dad is from Canning, Ontario (just outside Paris, my grandparents farm was just down the road). Wayne's grandad was Ukranian.
Sounds like The Great One has his hot dog topping game on lock too. All you need is mustard and onions baby. That's how you do up a street meat!
Nothing worse than getting hungry in the middle of a game.
😂
He likes Sammy's. Excited " Some places had Sandwiches"!
This is Greek to Graham, but hockey players watching this nodding their heads saying: yep
Wayne is SO serious.
This guy has the same recognition in Canada as the Beatles do in the UK
St Wayne
I’ve said this before on another video about Gretzky and I’ll say it here:
Take what Michael Jordan is to basketball.
Take what Pele is to soccer.
Take what Joe Montana is to football.
Take what Babe Ruth is to baseball.
Multiply it all by 100.
That’s what Wayne Gretzky is to hockey.
He looks hammered
I was going to say super hung-over
Bensinger: “WTF’s a toque?!?!” 😂
Good question I was guessing a toupee but I guess I'm wrong
The True Greats. Are humble.
I want someone to look at me the way graham looks at gretzky
I love how he uses food as energy and not as calories. Calories seems like such a bad word nowadays that people dislike you using it. I use energy myself which is how you should treat food. Energy to run the body. IMO calories isn't such a bad word, society just kinda overused it and make it seem like an enemy among people with weight issues.
However, that is precisely the definition of a calorie, as it's simply a unit of energy :D I do agree though, the word itself carries a negative connotation
straight answers to stupid questions
Yes, Wayne. You can say you’re an expert.
Graham anymore hockey players you would like to interview? I count only 2, Gretzky here and Ovechkin. What about Mario Lemieux? Of currents players Connor Mcdavid? Connor Bedard? Sidney Crosby?
Amen
very transparent man
1:09 was my answer good enough
DAVID GOGGIN lol wtf was that proper shit
This is great news I love hot dogs and soda
I can tell when my stick is longer/shorter (or rather im taller) but i wouldnt notice if you made it heavier.
By a quarter inch?
My buddy ate blueberry pancakes before a game. Those would up all over the bench.
At 4:02 " tuque" . Can't get more Canadian than saying tuque.
Between Gretzky and Babe Ruth, it's pretty obvious hot dogs are the secret to GOAT status.
Babe Ruth is not the goat. He didn't play against blacks,Hispanics and Asians
Rest in peace to Gretzky’s dad.
Wayne gretzky looks like william regal
🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
He got baked af before his games. Came in decided four hotdogs and a coke was the move. Boom, allstar
One hell of a free plug for snickers
Wayne is like" im into nutrition" but he ate 4 hot dogs and cokes lol different era
I just shit my pants thinking bout eating hot dogs and Diet Coke haha!
What a dork Bensinger is...he reminds me of Chris Farley's character from snl.
I wonder if even pros like Gretzky felt as weird and sort of unbalanced skating without a hockey stick as I did. It was an odd experience. lol
The great one the ultimate glizzy gladiator
The Great One
2857 points
1487 games, 894 goals, 1963 assists
You Can See In His Eyes His Misses The Ice 🧊
Wow he got a couple big shots to talk to him.
Kane Waselenchuk is the most dominant athlete of any sport.
Yeah, I thought that was a dubious claim. You could make the same argument for Michael Jordan, Joe Montana, etc etc.
Is graham the greatest interviewer ever?
Jeff White Louis Theroux is also very good.
Etc Howard stern as well
Na dawg. Barbara Walters
Definitely Graham is good at what he does! He LETS the guests speak!
He’s a manipulative sycophant
The Phil the thrill diet
He should ask Wayne about his stick blade tape.
