I’m a CO. At my jail, all the nurses do is pass meds and tell the inmates to put in sick calls. Anything too serious they get sent out to the hospitals. Pretty sweet if you ask me
Jail nursing is one of the easiest nursing jobs on the planet bro. The LVNs will just pass meds, while the RN typically stays in the infirmary doing clinic/ambulatory care. Anything acute gets sent out to the hospital. Super chill, high pay job.
Most inmates have a no touch the RN policy because they are trying to help them. In fact if a RN is liked enough and happened to get attacked that inmate would likely have to PC up or face serious injury,
I'm interviewing for my first nursing job ever for a jail later today and I'm so excited. And nervous! My friend works there and says it's cake! We shall see
@@m.m.3156 They wanted to hire me but I haven't taken NCLEX yet. The hospital hired me in the meantime, so I start there next week. The jail was going to pay me $10 more an hour than the hospital as a new grad! So as soon as I test I'm going back!
Can you please explain why Prisoners are not allowed outside the Prison when it closes? Like the Guards can leave but the Inmates can't? That seems unfair 😕
Prisons operate 24/7, and the correctional officers are scheduled so the prison runs in the morning, afternoon, night and overnight. Usually having 2-3 different types of shifts. Prisons are also a facility where it keeps people who have committed crimes more serious than misdemeanors like felonies. You want those guys roaming around the streets and around your neighborhood?
Actually, they really don’t. Most inmates who put in for sick orders never get seen or don’t get taken seriously. If you’re not actively dying, a lot of prisons really don’t care how sick you are.
No, you dont have to have EMT experience first. Patient's overdose and the nurses spray narcan and call 911 and may get a line if they can if the offender doesn't recover.

Do you have to leave your phone in car?
In our facility, yes we have to leave our phone.
Inmates have better food And healthcare compared to some Americans.
the fact that this is true is fucked up
No, they don't and some have been starved to death by guards.
Not better food....no. But heath care is better in some ways. I know this because i have an friend thats currently incarcerated.

Do you feel it would be beneficial to get EMT certified prior to being a corrections nurse?
U need to be a nurse. You need to have a nursing license. Big difference.

What type of experience is required to be a Corrections Nurse?
Lpn or RN
It's good to have medical/surgical experience but they are so desperate for nurses right now.
