    Finally this is done! It's taken me several hours, but I've finally finished arranging Dragonforce's 'Through the Fire and the Flames' for piano. I have stuck to the exact structure and key (Cm) of the original song.
    Sadly, I feel it didn't come out quite as good as I was hoping. I was in two minds whether to make it exactly the same as the original, or change it to make it a lot more piano playable. I tryed the later, but I felt I started losing the melody a lot. You have to remember that this piece is designed for guitar, not piano, and so it is hard to make it practical to play all the crazy, solo bits on the piano. I compromised by adding "Ad-lib" above lots of bars in the stave, to allow for improvisation in the parts where the original is impractical to play.
    I'll admit, I did use a MIDI for parts for most of the later half of this song (i.e all the solos). It was taking too long to figure out by ear all the masses of notes that were being played. However, I didn't just copy the MIDI across and plonk it there done, I did actually arrange it and change slightly to adjust for a piano.
    How I made this video:
    - Inputted the piece into Sibelius
    - Exported the MIDI file
    - Exported the graphics to make sheet music
    - Changed the MIDI to an .mp3
    - Stuck the .mp3 into Sony Vegas, and edited the sheet music in to make a video.
    In the conversion from MIDI to .mp3, the bass seems to have come out more. In some places it is overpowering the melody a bit, which doesn't sound all that great . (However, I'm sure if you're playing this on the piano yourself, you won't have this issue.)
    If you're wondering, I can play most of this on piano. All the solos are all basic improvisation, but I can play most of the normal stuff as well.

    No problem, and I'm glad people are finding the sheet music useful and willing to learn it. Feel free to change what you want lol. My version isn't perfect, and if you think your way's better, that's fine.
    Good luck on learning it. To play the solos accurately at speed is quite a difficult task. ;)

    Thank you for this sheet music, this is certainly a "wow look what I can do" version of this song. I am currently going to learn this, although I have made a few changes already just doing the intro, such as I find that on the second time of the E flat C bit (second section xD) that when it repeats again it sounds more fluent to do it E flat C again instead of Eflat Eflat C. But very well done overal, thank you :)

    you stuffed up the start a little

    good job

  • @Tehmattie
    @Tehmattie  Před 14 lety

    The key is Cm.
    The section starting at 3:20 is played in thirds in the actual song, and so I've notated the third itself, instead of the first/tonic.
    "(Ad-lib)" represents parts that are quite hard and impractical to play, and so I'm leaving it open to improvisation if desired. Most of the time this happens in the solos, yes.

    yeah, sixteenths that speed aren't possible on piano unless you have one of those devices where you hold notes and it turns them into sixteenths. It is possible to double tongue like that on a wind instrument or pull it off on a string instrument. Dissappointed, I am a saxophonist and been looking for videos of someone double tongueing those sixteenths, but in every video they are playing eighth notes instead. I may put a video up of me doing it on sax if i ever get the free time

  • @Tehmattie
    @Tehmattie  Před 14 lety

    (from above)
    However, all the work on my part was in the inputting of the notes. I had to work out by ear mainly, what was the dominant melody, etc, and how practical things were to play on piano.
    So I end up with my own individual arrangement of this piece, which is what you hear.
    I can actually play most of this myself on piano, but I wouldn't be able to play it fluently enough to get a good recording. (i.e I would have too many mistakes)

    Hehe ye, just completed the intro and recorded it (although I messed up on one bit ) and sent it to some friends. They actually prefered the little 4 note rift that I do aswell, it just sounds more impacting. As I go along I am switching a few things. I only just started to get back into piano 3 months ago and only had lessons previously for 6 months, so theoretically this is impossible for me as I have never played anything this fast. But its a nice challenge and I WILL be able to play it :P.

  • @Tehmattie
    @Tehmattie  Před 13 lety

    @DeathViaTar Yes there should be, but it's not practical to play them at correct speed on piano. I didn't just copy all the notes from the original piece and say: "Play this on piano"; I simplified it to make it manageable.

  • @Tehmattie
    @Tehmattie  Před 12 lety

    @MisterPickrel Not totally sure I said or meant to say "easier" version... but this is the only arrangement/version I have of this song.
    If you really want a 'harder' version, you'll have to arrange it yourself. The best way to do this would be to find a MIDI version of the song. There's plenty of MIDI search engines/techniques out there.

  • @Patbad73
    @Patbad73 Před 12 lety

    Also, the rhythm of the bottom part's two notes in measures 194-195 should be switched with the rhythm in measures 196-197 because it's the second time that part of the song is played.

  • @Tehmattie
    @Tehmattie  Před 14 lety

    @rctwik Well for the first part until the solos, not too high. In fact it is more the stamina of your left hand being able to cope for the first 4mins or so. Having big-ish hands also helps with the alternating octaves.
    Once you get to the solos, you just need a lot of determination and practice to get anywhere close to playing them at speed and fluently. Good experience with fast scale movements would help.

    You know nothing of bach if you think this is hard for him, search: "prelude and fugue c minor played by richter". You'll swallow your words, and for the record it isn't even close to his hardest works.

    • @TheElvenArcher

      well bach is de-composing (ba dum push!) now so it doesn't really matter how well he could play piano now does it.

  • @Tehmattie
    @Tehmattie  Před 14 lety

    Well there are certain features that make it a lot easier to input notes, such as copying, repeating, and tons of hot keys. To me, I usually don't find it tedious, as I've been using Sibelius for awhile now, and using the above features make things fast enough.

    Just out of curiousity, are you playing on an upright/grand piano with a mic, or on a keyboard with the sound digitally recorded? 'Cause I may be making some piano-vids myself at some point, since we're getting a pretty pro keyboard soon. =)

    @Reishirosama Yes, most music notation programs have a transpose function.
    If you download the MIDI (in description) and then input it into a music notation program (such as Sibelius or MuseScore), the program should have a function which transposes the whole score into whatever key you wish. =)

  • @Tehmattie
    @Tehmattie  Před 13 lety

    @dartalon Yes of course you can take the notes and use them for whatever you like. I'd rather that people gave my arrangement publicity and use, than me keeping it hidden away and secure.

  • @TheCJsaxman
    @TheCJsaxman Před 12 lety

    Though pulling off the intro like they do on the guitars may be a different story, i don't think that would be possible on a wind instrument. the fast repeating notes would be tough but possible, the runs wouldn't be bad though, at least on saxophone, not sure how it would be on trumpet, Reishirosama

    If you want to download my sheets or a MIDI of my piece, there are links in the description. If you have a music notation program, you can read the MIDI and change it accordingly for a marimba.
    If you're wanting a MIDI of the original piece (i.e. a direct translation of the actual song with all the correct instruments), there are some floating around the internet. I can't remember where I found my one though, sorry.

    Well from your question, I'm assuming you haven't used Sibelius. :P
    Sibelius is Music Notation software. So this means that all of this was done on my Computer. No recording was done live by me on my Keyboard.
    So all I did was export a MIDI file from Sibelius, turn it into an .mp3, export the graphics from Sibelius to make sheet music, and add the 2 together in Sony Vegas to make a Video.

  • @Diamnds10
    @Diamnds10 Před 14 lety

    Heh. There goes me not reading the description again. Keyboard, then. I guess the question should then be... How much of the piece did you play on keyboard? And many many different tracks did you have in Sibelius?

  • @Diamnds10
    @Diamnds10 Před 14 lety

    Sounds fair enough. So theoretically, you don't need a keyboard at all to use Sibelius? And also I can imagine arranging every single could be very tedious - but then again, I haven't used Sibelius.
