- Today is the first in a series of collection videos showing what I am starting with for my #nobuy2023 year! Today is one of my long time weaknesses... washi tape. (Please note, before I moved to Denver I decluttered HALF of my collection and I STILL HAVE THIS MUCH. 😅)

Having my grandkids around has helped me change how I see my craft collections. I don’t treat them so preciously anymore. The joy of sharing my crafting with them has taught me that I don’t have to cringe when my granddaughter pulls two arms lengths of washi every single time. I remind myself I have it to use. I’ve started mailing my nieces some of my stickers; they love getting mail with stickers and I destash my stickers. Little by little I’m making progress.
I also have begun recently thinking about this with my younger cousin. I think shed really like some of the stickers I have and its not like I need every little bit. Thanks for reminding me to send some to her :)
Whoa, that's an impressive collection. Assuming an average roll of washi tape is 5 meters long, that means you have 775 rolls x 5 meters per roll = 3875 meters, or 2.4 miles of washi tape. Which is probably a good walk around the block with Layla. 😄

I admit to feeling a little smug about my less than 100 rolls of washi tape and then you mentioned yarn and now I'm sitting on the "feeling some kind of way about it" side of the room. Both planning and knitting supplies are part of my no spend this year. I appreciate you willingness to share your progress - it's very motivating!
It is amazingly difficult to use up even one roll of washi unless you decide to washi 20 planners and also plaster it on everything and everyone that doesn’t move fast enough. 🤣

Just a suggestion if any are interested. We have one of those little libraries that we started in my neighborhood; there’s a lot of little kids that live here. This past spring I went through a lot of my washi tapes and put them in for the kids to help themselves to. Needless to say, by the end of the month, a lot of them were taken.
I’d be glad to take any washis you don’t want/use and give them to the kids in my neighborhood.
About two years ago, I got into your #UseYourShit stuff and have been trying to shop my stash ever since then. Even after two years and minimal stationery purchasing, it still feels like I have way too much washi that I'm continuing to try and use up. You are right that it is a lot of fun creativity-wise (:

Your no-buy collection videos have made me realize I love to watch people be passionate about things I know little about. So from a long-time subscriber who doesn't use a planner and struggles to find one functional pen in her entire house... I love these videos. I look forward to your progress!
I have a lot of washi too. I'm afraid to count it, though. I've been trying to be less precious about using it the past year. I decided that since I keep the vast majority of my journals and planners that using them will bring me more joy than hoarding them. Because when I go back to an old journal, I'll see all the cute stationery I used.

Several years ago when I first got into planning, 2018, there was a trend to make full boxes from washi tape, on the diagonal. I did it several times, although it is a labor of love. I hope Day 1 went as smoothly as possible, and Day 2 is going well so far!
Attempting to organize washi is the bane of my existence! Early on in creative planning, I got rid of washi and kept a few rolls. Then I fell down a rabbit hole and now I have a TON of washi. It would interesting to count how many rolls I have.

I'm a yarn person. Also a book person. We found out during our move how much yarn I had - I gave a lot away. As for books - we're still winnowing things out. We do not have enough shelf space and we have less wall space than before.

Do I have collections I want/need to go through?!?! Ha! Nail polish. Notebooks. Pens. Fountain pen ink. Eye shadows. Lipsticks. Scrapbook paper. Scrapbook stickers and embellishments. All the things! I have a lot of washi (probably 100?…never counted). I’d like to use up some of it, but I don’t do much decor in my planners because I hate bumps. 🤦🏾♀️ I’m trying to embrace using it in my journals, on letters, on packages, and just around the house instead of tape. I also use it on my health and beauty products to help make it easier to mark my “use up” levels.
I remember your big live de-stash before you moved - that was a blast! Thanks for a new look. Another way to track progress is you could make a quick estimate of how many inches of washi you use in a spread and keep a cumulative count for the year. You could have milestones - 10 feet, 50 feet etc. Could be fun and give you more regular dopamine hits along the way
My “collection” to work through in 2023 is UNFINISHED PROJECTS! So many projects started and set aside over the years. It’s time to make good on good intentions! 😂
I would love to see how you use your current stash to decorate spreads instead of kits. I am on a no-spend/low-spend for all of life right now and would love to spark some ideas of how to use what I have!
Oh man, I had some FEELINGS when you mentioned yarn at the very end of this video! But also thanks - maybe I should do an on-camera inventory of my yarn & knitting supplies. There are definately some I won't use that I should find a new home for.

I just de stashed most of my washi except a few rolls. When I started planning I filled three washi cases. I’ve slowly gone down to one case. Now I just have a small jar with less than 10 rolls. Very impressive collection.

Yes! I would love to see the process of how you make a spread based on washi as I receive an angel cat washi tape that I love but I'm clueless on how to use it on a spread. And yes, I took a bunch of my washi up to my desk and my goal is to use it, not really to empty them but it would be nice to actually use the.
Love your collection! I also gravitate to the thinner washi and I often cut mine down (pattern depending) with a paper trimmer or an exacto knife on a cutting mat and ruler. 💙💙💙
I am also joining your no buy after spending a ton on myself in this past month on stationary ive made it a goal to use a lot of it this year. Ive also applied this to my skincare collection- almost ready to finish a cleaser and use up another old one :)
2023 is also my year of using it up! i definitely dont have this much washi but i still want to use up as much as i can. i just found your channel and i already love this series!

I think you’ve just saved me from listing my happy planner PRIDE notebook, sticker book, and other Pride items for sale on FB, lol. I’ve been talking myself into selling the set since I still have plenty of other sticker and same themed colors to use in June - but now I think I’ll probably just use my stuff instead :-)
I did a no washi by last year. I sold and gave some away but didn’t count how many I had. So I did a count and starting the year off with 183 rolls after watching your video
I definitely have more washi than I can use before it goes bad. I've decided to start using it in my watercolor painting just as way to keep it moving.

I couldn’t help but notice the washi I also have and it made me smile! I hesitate to count what I have now-about half on rolls and half on cards by color/theme. I also have a bin that I will be donating because my planner friends have already gone through it and taken what they wanted. So. Much. Washi. And I still love it all. 😭😭😭
I never got into washi tape. Not super hard core. I could buy a roll and use it. But so many people are destashing or taking inventory and now I wanna buy all the washi. I want to be at your level. Especially when I get a crafting space.
Washi is a weakness of mine. I see so many in your collection that I have, too. I have some with one open roll and one still sealed so I don't run out. Good grief!!! I'm working to use it & declutter what I know I won't use by sharing with a couple friends. I'm also doing a no buy for planner supplies, which is soooooo hard, but necessary. I used to collect washi, not a big collection at all but around 20-30 rolls I realized I would never use them up! And I also started using stickers and not loving washi anymore. So I picked out my fave 2-3 to keep and sold the rest as 1 bundle on Poshmark and let it all go 😅 I thought I’d miss it but nope, I actually felt relieved to mail them away!
Yesssss been looking for no buy content all day, washi tape is about as relevant to me as it gets (just short of notebooks XD). Hope dialysis training is going well!

Yarn, fabric, PAPER! Washi is one of the items I have less of, yet I still have a bunch, LOL!! I'm on a no buy year as well, so I'm also hoping to get through a bunch, especially the older stuff.
OMG my yarn and also fabric collection definitely needs to be taken into consideration for no buy... but the patterns are just so pretty, I know I'll use it for something! 😅

Yup. Got the yarn. And washi. And all the everything having done a couple years of The Planner Society. Already working in using them up.
Out of all my washi tape collection (96 rolls) I regret buying cheap ones: not only the designs are boring but they are also full of defects. Some of them are badly printed, cut and the glue is either melter or dried (and they are not old). I decided to start finishing them and be more conscious while shopping
I'm going to try to work through my fountain pen ink samples. They're just so cheap that every time I order something I toss between 5-10 in the order (especially if I need to meet the free shipping spending threshold 😬)
I plan to cull down my surplus in a couple of categories too.
Using washi to design a spread sounds amazing - I really do rely on kits too much

I have two of those 3 drawer clear acrylic boxes from Michaels for most of my washi (with room to spare), a plastic bin with holiday specific washi, two washi bags from Thirty One with a rainbow of washi, and a small bag of the super skinny washi. I hardly ever use washi in weekly spreads because of the way I plan and the kits I use, but even what I have is minimal compared to what I had before extreme decluttering it last year! I think maybe this year I’ll mark the inside of the roll when I use it and at the end of the year whatever doesn’t have a mark I’ll donate to my teacher friend.
This was recommended to me and I have to say, the fact that some variation of “fuck” was said multiple times before the 3 minute mark was amazing. Juxtaposed with the calming voice and pretty washi tape made it even better lol!
My destashing project for the new year is fabric. I bought a lot 4 (!) years ago to sew clothing, and then we moved and renovated, and I finished school and started my new job, and finally got bakc to so many other things that suffered during university and learning - and I never felt like sewing. So I still have a considerable pile of lovely fabric, and after two years of the plague and practically no shopping for clothes, my warderobe is literally thinned out... It's a perfect match, I just need to find motivation to actuallysit down to do it, LOL! Wish me luck... 😂
This video just made me realize I need to start working on my collections again. I just got rid or 3 boxes of papers and rubber stamps because I never used them. I need to get rid of some washi and stickers. It's gotten out of control and I hardly use them. I wish I had more planner friends to gift my stuff but I dont so I just take it to work and let them take what they want 😄
You've inspired me to organize my washi in a similar fashion. I use the same ones repeatedly because the others are all in a big drawer. Perhaps if I could see them more clearly, I would probably use more of them. I'm also doing a no-buy for 2023.

I consider myself a minimalist when it comes to stationery supplies, but just counted my washi and have 79 rolls. 😬 BUT, my plan this year instead of monthly themes for my bujo is to pick a color scheme based on washi I have and try to use as much as I can each month.

I’m joining you in the no buy. One of the reasons is that I don’t know the location of some of the things I own. At this point coming up with a quantity is out of the question. But I’m going to enjoy the process of organizing 😊

Wow so much washi. I actually only tend to use the very thin washi. But my collection that I'm determined to use is my pattern paper.

My weaknesses are pens, books and notebooks. I feel like I can never have enough pens despite needing several new, larger pen holders in multiple areas at home AND at work 🙈 Books I tend to impulse buy then get overwhelmed so I don't read. I wrote out all the ones I purchased and have not yet started and needed another sheet of paper 😬 And notebooks I've improved -- I have whittled down to "only" 2 unused B5 dotteds, and a couple of half used fitness planners.
I have one Ikea $1 silverware drawer organizer full of washi and that's it outside of a couple rolls around the house that I consider utility rolls. I see some Ikea washi in your collection! Those are the ones I am trying to use up first because they my oldest and are actively going bad. Makeup is the big use-what-you-have category for me right now and I'm currently trying to get through some 7-year-old Mary Kay translucent powder that was unopened until a couple weeks ago.

My problem is that my supplies are scattered. Like washi and pens from different boxes are in one spot, but I still have things packed from moving last summer, and all that's separate from the things I actually use on a daily basis. I know I don't have an overwhelming amount of stuff, but I put off using things because I have to look up what else there is. But I'm trying to Konmari my room this month, and organizing my craft-related supplies is one of my keys goals. I probably have 20-30 rolls of washi, but I've got a bunch of sticker sets, too.

I have a bin that's meant to be a shower caddy filled with washi. I thought I had a lot before watching this video 😂 I'm feeling better about my decision to buy 5 more sets. I feel like I don't actually like a lot of the washi tape I have, and I don't have a lot of variety (especially since I accidentally bought two sets of the exact same washi) and that prevents me from using it as much as I want to
Yesterday I had the chimney service come out to clean our chimney and the guy came in and said "I can tell two things about you immediately, you love plants and you love books" He also complimented me on my living room setup/decor, so he wasn't being critical, just observant. I mean, we do have three out of four walls lined with bookcases and the fourth is a whole bank of windows with plants in front, so it's not a surprise he noticed! This year I'm not so much trying to use stuff up as much as declutter it out.

Oh my goodness - I donated about 30 rolls a year ago, I still have 25 favorites that I haven’t touched in 10 months, and I have another 10 bagged up to donate.
The only good news and all this is that a lot of it was purchased at like 70% off for 80% off. Some of it wasn’t though.
The number one favorite of mine is “yellow - caution” tape - I could use it for household purposes as warning labels for bread or refrigerator items that were on the edge of getting spoiled… Or wrapped around the outsider of the sharp eyebrow tweezers.
I'm giving a lot of my washi, notebooks and pens away as door prizes at my workshops!
I have plastic cases for my washi and I really need to use it more. I've been trying to destash the duplicates to give me room. I won't get rid of my villain ones but anything else isn't getting used enough. New patterns and FOMO is clogging up my boxes. Eeek!
Oh man, you had to mention the yarn. I don't crochet much anymore so I've just got a stack of bins at the back of my closet.

I’m one of those people who needs to reduce their yarn. I barely crocheted last year, so I’m hoping to use a good chunk up this year. It’s been a while since I’ve made scarves and hats for the homeless/others in need, so I’m hoping I’ll be able to use some of it up that way before winter ends (and then again towards the end of the year)
I feel attacked 😂 planner covers, washi, pens, stamps, inks, and yarn are busting outta my planner/craft corner - No more space to grow into so I have to slow my roll for 2023.
i somehow have managed to acquire 84 rolls of washi tape, even though i havent bought any since maybe 2019. i think i am going to try and use that for everything, i have no need of it since i mostly do black and white undecorated planning anymore

i decluttered my washi last year and got rid of over 100 rolls i didnt like or use & i feel much better with the 250 plus i still own uhhh im gonna declutter stickers this year as i know i have a ton i will just never use
Since I have a cricut, I'm making it my mission to use up as many of my sticker books as possible so I can print the stickers I want only, i love getting sticker books but all too often there are stickers in there I would never use. i need to purge down. i''m also working on my washi, i'm no where near your number but I'm still up there.
What is the brand of shirt/jacket that you are wearing? I love the sleeves! We are moving in a few months so we are trying to do a no spend since we don’t need more stuff to move!
