I've been trying to remember the name of this game! Thanks for the share!!

Still have this game and 2 of its expansions, but haven't played it in years. Last time I opened the box, I was similarly shocked by the component quality. A shame really, because I think the game is solid and quite unique (as far as I remember).

I think it's coming back! There were so many tournaments everywhere in France during the 5 first years... still kept the 3 first boxes but ruleset clearly aged ...

Yes it’s being crowdfunded this year with a release scheduled for 2025

Disappointed at the lack of double entendres at the mention of goblin 😢

I'm impressed that your copy is in pristine condition for a 19 year old game 😮. Maybe you can make a video and share tips to keep games in excellent condition even after so many years.

Thank you for reviewing this classic!
An important rule clarification: After revealing your starting 4 characters, your remaining 4 characters are placed face-down on dungeon tiles along with the items. This makes item placement quite exciting, because where your remaining characters are in the dungeon is unknown to your opponent. Having 8 characters in play for each side does lead to a more exciting game.
The second printing of Dungeon Twister used thicker cardboard, as did the expansions. I agree the first printing was pretty bad, especially when its thickness made it incompatible with the expansions. Asmodee provided a free mail-in upgrade which I took advantage of nearly 16 years ago.
I'm not interested in the upcoming 20th anniversary edition because of the cost, miniatures and board size increase. The original game with token capsules is perfect, no need for standees.

I don’t remember reading the bit about excess character placement. I’m sure they go back in the box.

@@BoardGameBollocks I'm positive both players place all 8 characters: 4 on their starting line, and 4 in the dungeon rooms along with the items.
On rulebook page 4, the "Placing the remaining tokens" section reads: "All tokens must be placed face-down. Players continue until all the remaining tokens have been placed. When finished, the maximum capacity of each room will be reached."
On rulebook pages 4-5, the "Maximum number of tokens in each room for setup" image shows a total of 20 tokens in the dungeon rooms. That means each player places in the dungeon room all 6 of their items, and their 4 characters not on the starting line.
The game is intense when played with the full character roster, and action picks up quickly. Place your Troll in a dungeon room near your opponent's starting line to threaten some combat trouble... as long as they don't hit you with their Wizard's fireball wand!

@skarrmann I read it again and it looks like your right. Had they used the term non starting character and items instead of token it would’ve been clearer.
It’s a shame really as it takes away the choice of characters if they’re all in the dungeon anyway.
Oh well. You learn something new every day.

Have never played the game. That indeed makes the setup of "tokens" more interesting and adds to the longevity of the game to have so many starting options. This game would be the death of a friend of mine since he would be stuck in ap at setup for the rest of the day. Also having 16 characters on the board with 8 different abilities and possible rotating tiles...that's a lot to think about.

I know there is a new deluxe edition hitting crowdfunding soon, or even now. Was considering it, but not too thrilled at the price point and not big on minis these days.

Falls into the category great game, horrible component quality same as Camp Grizzly, Betrayal at the house on the Hill and Claustrophobia to name a few. The Stuff is is so bad you are afraid to table it.
Especially with Camp Grizzly because damaged components would be impossible to replace...no drinks, no greasy snacks...mandatory white gloves...

    • @BoardGameBollocks
      @BoardGameBollocks  Před 2 měsíci +4

I dunno…the first claustrophobia had some decent components. Painted minis etc were quite nice

@@BoardGameBollocks The miniatures were fine at the time but today they are a bit meh same with mage knight and Cyclades. Not sure about the tiles they seemed a bit flimsy compared to for example Uprising.
But everything that has stuff in it that can't be replaced except for an arm and a leg makes me nervous when it hits the
table. Especially when it's one of my favorite games.
