Remember, our goal is to pass on our first take because nowadays it has been soooo challenging to schedule a demo class. It sometimes takes 6 hours to have an admin show up for your demo! imagine wasting all the waiting just because you weren’t able to answer question!

I'm a fan of yours, Teacha Karen. I always watch your content! They are substantial and full of gist. Allow me to share this. This happened to me, I've been trapped by an evaluator and failed the demo. Evaluator named "Francis" trapped me in the demo lesson "Would you mind me/my closing the window?" I waited for hours in queue and when he entered he skipped many parts of the lesson and directly instructed that we go to the practice part. This practice is sentence making. Using the word borrow (asking for permission) he said "Would you mind me borrowing my pen?" then, I corrected him since the first thought that came to me was that, why would you borrow your own pen?, I told him that he could say "Would you mind me taking my pen? or would you mind me borrowing YOUR pen?", instead since that makes more sense. That's when he said "What if I borrow my own pen from him?", so, deep in thought I was thinking why would borrow your own pen? Then he said, I've asked you teacher if you'd still want to continue or postpone your demo, which he really did before we started. How could I say no, I've spent hours of waiting, and just with that, with his trapping, BORROWING HIS OWN PEN, I failed my final try. Well, that's life. Sometimes unjust, but isn't the end. I've landed to a better job. So, thanks to Francis for closing the window, allowing a better opportunity to come to me.
Again, I just had this feeling that I needed to share this. I've watched the content, I've nothing against it. Actually, you've imparted knowledge to me today! So, thank you. Thank you so much Teacha Karen. ♥
Honestly, admins are quite unpredictable sometimes. I just hope you were fairly evaluated though :( Based on how you explained yourself, you seem like a knowledgeable person in English, it was a loss for NC to fail you. Not all teachas can explain that well. I probably would have thought of the same answer. Though, if you will check with Cambridge, to borrow means to get or receive something from someone with the intention of giving it back after a period of time...so technically you can borrow your own property.... Like "Can I borrow my car?"
@@TeachaKaren Yup. Thanks for clearing this up to me Teacha! I admit I was really caught off guard. I've prepared though. I guess I've devoted ample of time to prepare at least. So I was really disappointed, well, I guess anybody would be. I lost the opportunity because I was refining the evaluator's sentence. Empirically, we would say "Would you mind me taking my pen? I'll give it back to you." in conventional manner, since I think, it wouldn't be misleading to say it that way, right? yet technically, he's correct. I just don't see any mistake on my end as well. It hurts that, right away, he turned me down. So thank you for hoping that I got fairly evaluated. If it's to be, it's up to me. It was also my choice to fail.
There are things meant to be. And NC isn't for me, for now. I might try my luck again next time, when the influx of applicants has tranquilized. Definitely 6 mos. from now :D
About the better opportunity, I've got handled at Chipan. I will be starting my journey at eigox as well. Wish me luck ☻

I had my demo first, asking me why do we have to put ed to the verb while it is not yet happening or past tense, I got panic but I managed to explain the uses of tenses, but still not acceptable, Francis gave me another chance to retake, He is also praising me that I have the potential etc, but He noticed an medyo ninenerbyos talaga ako kaya sabi nya take it easy, He knows daw that I can do much better, and my second demo was I can say, PERFECT, no mistakes at all, the admin was very happy and told me that she will submit my demo to her supervisor and wait for the result, so I felt very confident an kahit papano mapag aaralan young demo ko kung sakali ndi talaga umubra I was expecting some feedback like, i need to be like this, i have to do that...mga ganon ba at least aware ako on my flaws,,,,because as in no mistake and I can see the face of the Admin that she was quite impressed and told me so much praises. naiiyak an nga ako habang nagsasalita sya hanggang pag end nang video, bigla lumabas FAIL, sobra akong nanghina, hindi ko alam kung bat ganon, I've waited yesterday from 4pm till 945 pm then nag retake ako kanina 9am nasalang ako mga 130 pm akala ko kahit papano may hustisya magaganap sa paghihintay ko.. sobra akong nanlumo, gusto kong sumigaw sa sobrang sakit ng naramdaman ko, halos hindi ko pinagsasalita mga anak ko at wag mag ingay ng husto dahil masyado sila sensitive sa background, mababait mga anak ko kaya they followed me, kasi alam nila I need this job, kamamatay lang ng husband ko 5 mos ago at para sa kanila to, tapos.. bigla FAIL.. naalala ko when I had my system check yesterday sabi ni admin na sobrang bait at super chika sa akin, sobra pagod na daw sila at stress dahil sa dami ng applicant like today 200 daw nakaabang na for demo pero 10 lang need nila ipasa, hindi ko alam ano ibig sabihn nun ayoko pag isipan ng masama kasi nakakaunawa naman ako dahil talaga sa pangyayari sa china ,marami tayong nalugmok, pero naisip ko lang siguro nga since ndi naman nila kaya e - accomodate lahat para ipasa kahit pa sa tingin nila na may potential kaya kahit puro praises sabihin nila syo during the demo, eh after the video pag tapos na at sinabi nilang FAIL eh wala naman na tayo magagawa. I am not here to say anything against NC, mag aapply pa rin ako sa kanila after 3 month cguro, pero sobra lang talaga nanlumo ako. sobra mga teach..sobrang sakit sa pakiramdam yung feeling mo pinaglaruan yung damdamin mo. feeling ko lang naman yun dahil yun ang nakita ko sa pangyayari.teach Karen, I really admire you sana naging kasing swerte mo din ako na nakapasok sa NC.
Hindi pa ako maka get over, sorry mga teach if nobela, just sharing my experience. However I still love NC kasi na review na naman ulit ako habang nag ppractice ako sa demo, sana next time na mag apply ako, mapansin na nila ako.

@@TeachaKaren I received the same comments from my evaluator just as Kaye's. But they needed to submit the result to the manager or their head if I pass or not. I thought the result came out right after the demo lesson.
@@ronaldbayotlang1065 that was before (like around August). Now that everyone wants to run away from Chinese ESL companies, there have been a surge in applicants in NC :(
Hello Teach Karen, I would like to ask if during the demo/interview can we actually consult external sources like google, online dictionary etc? Will the evaluator be particular of your pace in speaking?
Yes they will check your pacing. Getting answers from external resources should not take more than 20 seconds in my opinion. I usually start off by defining the word using my own words then I paste a Cambridge definition if I'm not that confident. Eitherway you have to type the definition/explanation on the chatbox. They're basically checking your multi-tasking skills.

Hello teacha Karen. The recruiter told me that I have had an excellent demo especially in the part of reading conversation and being enthusiastic. In the lesson WHY DO YOU NEED NATTO? The only thing that I hadn't been able to meet is the use of the chatbox. She said at the end of the demo, it is okay not to use the chatbox frequently for at that moment I used it for names, mispronounced words, ungrammatical phrases, and questions. I couldn't get why I failed it 😿
Oh my I'm sorry to hear that. Sometimes there are inconsistencies among admins :( didnt he/she say why you failed?

@Teacher Karen Hahahahah the last time I had a demo lesson. The Admin was FRANCIS. He asked me what is a window? What part of speech is “WOULD” everything is well explained but the problem is “I forgot them to type all in the chatbox” …… Retake again
I also had Sir Francis as my evaluator on my 2nd demo. He asked a synonym for the word "stand" as in "I can't stand that noise, either." Good thing I was able to answer. I answered "bear" as in "I can't bear that noise, either." I passed. Good luck on your next demo. You can do it!

random but one way I let students know what nouns are is by remembering the PANT-S game: Places, Animals, Names, Things, Score. Since Nouns are simply names for concrete or abstract things

Francis should be fired his questions are out of hand he should just focus on the book that's the purpose of following the flow. Francis should get fired because he makes it difficult for the potential teachers who truly dedicated so much effort and time in studying and learning about the books for demo class yet he will ask questions that is about English in general plus he even spoke in vernacular. Will definitely just copy paste from Cambridge dictionary in that case coz they're too similar. Sometimes the questions don't make sense. Tsk
OMG. I just had my demo from him right now. He's NOT nice at all and in my 11 years of experience, I have never met any Japanese student as cynical as that, so I wonder why he's acting like that. Lol.
Teacher Karen thank you po ng sobra. I applied yesterday and did my demo lesson today. Since last night until waiting po for the demo lesson lahat lang po talaga ng videos nyo pinag aralan ko. Especially po dito sa trap questions. Copy paste ko po lahat ng explanation nyo tapos how you explained the concept po ginawa ko rin. Lo and behold I passed my first demo lesson. Yung lagi nyo pong sinasabi na dapat pass agad yung demo at first try yun po yung naging motivation ko po. Yung explanation ko po sa subject verb agreement yun po talaga ang bida because pass na agad after nun. At syempre dahil po yun sa help nyo. Thank you po talaga. Thank you. ❤️✨✨✨

They only give me 2nd try. After my second demo, the evaluator told me "Thank you for that wonderful performance. I will now forward your...." Then after just few minutes, I couldn't sign in their website anymore. It says "We couldn't accept your application. We couldn't tell the precise reason." 😢😢😢

And to add lang po, sa 1st demo ko kay Ms. Jez, she asked me what is natto, meaning of fermented, nutrients one can get from fermented food and examples.
Sa 2nd demo ko po, Sir Francis asked me to explain why we should put '-ed' on the verb sa Would you mind 'if' pattern.
Just wanted to share these para makapag-prepare din po 'yung iba. Hindi kasi talaga biro yung demo haha. And another tip, if gusto niyo po na matapos agad at di maghintay ng mahaba, be on standby by 9 am. That's what I did and I finished in 1 day.

@@candicepillay2446 it kind of rattled me, honestly lol but I just said that whenever we are using "Would you mind if" it should be followed with pronoun "I" and then the past tense of the verb because you are already "assuming" that the action has been done.

You have time to Google all that stuff effectively and process it under stress 😩 😪 😫. Anyway, are we being tested on the same lessons that were provided eg. Natto/window or will we randomly be assigned with new content for the demo class test?
The materials are pretty much the same, either you do Natto or the Window one :) and yes you gotta do Google and stuff while being pressured by the situation. Imagine, I have been teaching for 9 years yet I still got a mini heart attack during my demo.

Aww I don't know what you mean. I haven't memorized the content of the demo bookes. But if the answer is loves then maybe it (as a verb) agrees with the subject which is singular too

Yes, it is more than ok :) you actually have to do it because we are not really expected to know all the answers 100% of the time, what's important is we know where to find the answers as soon as possible

So far these are the only trap question I gathered based on experience and feedback from other teachas :) they will just be playing around with the questions but they're basically the same.

I am also preparing for my third demo. 🥺 on my first try, i forgot to put the correct answer in the chatbox but I explained it correctly naman daw. on my second try, the staff said na i should make eye contact with the students from time to time daw. huhu nakakakaba na sa last try 🤞 anyways, if this work is really for me, the Lord will give it. Hello teach, so I just failed my first demo. The admin said that everything was okay but the reason I failed was because I wasn’t lively enough and I think the admin was purposely acting bored. How do you handle that situation po ☺️
The simplest way to be lively is to SMILE sincerely, try to have a more upbeat tone to your voice (but not too much) avoid low pitched tones :)

Yes, that's correct.because you are not being interviewed, you are being treated as a teacher and your interviewer is your acting student. Teachers are not expected to know everything. We have to be knowledgeable and we have to know where to get answers if we don't know something

The first time They said i didnt smile enough and i skipped one part.
The second time I didnt corrrect effect for affect as i thought it was just her pronounciation. I failed in under 5 minutes both times. I got 95 in the proficiency test. Im frightened to take the third trial, I may seriously start doubting myself as a teacher. They make sure to shatter your confidence. Im not goung with the third trial 😢😅
while you are using another website like google or dictionary while there is a Demo or Class can it be seen on the screen of the interviewer/student?
No it can't, also they don't care (admin or student), we are not expected to know everything, we can use all available tools

TEACH!!!!YOU ARE AN ANGEL!!! Though my bagong rule daw sila sa passing ng applicants, kasi Japanese admins ay magbibigay ng score din, I just need to wait for 1 to 2 days para sa score. If I open my account and nakalagay ay Account info na, it means I passed, but if it is still demo, I need to retake. Pero Teach I followed all you suggestions pati template. The admin told me I'm very flexible kahit na I quite got shocked on the unexpected questions. Please pray for me teach!! P.S no bad feedbacks from them as well. And, my TM from acadsoc was still asking me to open slots kasi one month na akong di nagpplot. I waited for one month to have the demo cause I feel it's not yet the right time dahil disaster ang first take ko ng demo sa NC with Admin F hahaha. So thank you teach for sharing your knowledge and also your views as a former Acadsoc tutor, that WE HAVE A WORTH. GOD BLESS YOU TEACH!!

Reading all the comments here made me feel a pressure. I just got passed the system check even though I don't really have the proper tools that needed for the class such as noise cancelling headphone and a white background. All I had was my confidence at that time and the ability to speak well. All I did was talk and talk with sense ha till the interviewer said that I passed but now, I am really terrified by the confessions of many teachers here. Amd Im not really sure to proceed in the demo class. Hahahaha.
Btw, Teacha before proceeding in NC, I watched all of your videos. But I really didn't knew that NC is so strict. Especially the admins.

Practice is key! They are very strict because we no longer have a formal training process after this, basically your demo is what will prepare you to be a teacher here. you can do it!

Where and how can I practise how the actual demo / teaching platform works? Like pasting photos or comments.
You can do that after clicking "take demo" ... don't worry it won't immediately put your on the queue, it will just take you to the portal where you can practice and experience the "actual tools". You gotta change your status to "on standby" before actually taking your demo

No, you just have to retake the demo. Make sure you go to the website from Tues-Sat 10am-2pm or 4pm-8pm only.

It's just a matter of learning from.your mistakes and keeping a positive state of mind ♥️ I failed my first demo too because back then there werent much helpful videos for applicants. That's why I made these videos, I want applicants to get in coz it's so exhausting to wait on queue

Yes, if you see OK on demo, it means you passed, if you see scoring it means you gotta wait up to 5 days. If you see re-demo, you're for retake

@@perlitaarnosa6556 Japanese po ang admins. Filipino ang mga evaluator for the demo. If you passed the demo, Filipino evaluator will submit your demo to the Japanese Admin. Then if they like your demo and approve it ,you are hired. :)

No, it's done through the native camp website and it's not really an interview but a demo class

Sometimes they request for documents to verify your nationality especially if you are a native speaker. Applicants are given as much as 3 attempts for the exam

Teacher, I had my demo yesterday. Though, it was not successful, he (the evaluator) still gave me another chance for a retake. I was so tensed yesterday. My question is about their tricky way of asking questions. Because he inserted the question while I was busy talking. Though I heard the that he was asking, but it wasn't clear to me. Is it okay to ask him back politely "I'm sorry. Could you please say the question again?" Because I didn't ask him this for clarification. But, rather, I asked him back. And it turned my demo bad but fortunately, he still have me another chance. I hope you could help me teacher. Thank you!
Demos are really nerve-wracking. It's the ultimate test of your composure under pressure especially that they are looking for a perfect score. We are not allowed to make mistakes. I suggest don't get carried away, don't speak to fast and actively listen to your students. The only way to get ready is to practice and practice until you can do it in your sleep.

I think there is a correction in "don't like = singular verb" isn't it plural? Sorry im not sure. Just asking no offense please.
"Don't" can be singular or plural. It is used when speaking in the first and second person. Whereas, doesn't is only used when speaking in the third person. Basically the subject verb agreement rule isn't enough when explaining this one. Pointing out when to use don"t and doesn"t make more sense.

Sorry teacha, my application stops now. It was a big "FAIL". I was too nervous since the demo is with Mr. F again. (Honestly, I didn't expect that) I was too focused in the meanings, synonyms, and usage of words but he got me with another VERY tricky question. "Would you mind my borrowing my pen?" it sounded incorrect so I said it is, BUT it isn't actually.
OMG that was a trap indeed. Would you mind my borrowing YOUR pen.... a test of one's listening skills :( so sorry this happened to you

Pero tama daw. Sabi ko, why do I need to borrow my own charger.Tapos sabi nya, i recommend daw nya ako .wait for 24 hours for the result.hahaha. Tama ba yun Teacha Karen?

Then he gave me a scenario, what if the person was using your pen. Then I said, I answered, "Would you mind my/me getting back/taking back my pen? Then he said, "where is the word "borrow"? he said is SOUNDED incorrect, but it was actually CORRECT! does it make sense? "Would you mind my borrowing MY pen?" it sounded OFF seriously...
