BE A 90S KID FOR EVERY AD READ, THAT WAS THE BEST THING I'VE SEEN OF ANY AD
Radical 😂
Love the extra effort for the Squarespace promotion. Glad to see you having fun
I got PCP/acid flashbacks from it. And I have never taken acid or PCP!!!
Holy 90's, Batman!
I owned Hero Quest, my buddy Owned Dark World and Fireball island we spent allot of time playing those games in the 90s, those were the days
I love seeing the old stuff rehashed and made awesome, great work Jeremy!
Brings back memories of slapping testors model paint on the OG hero’s quest as a 12 year old. That was the start of the mini hobby for me.
My first Testor's paint jobs were on the OG Grenadier lead minis.
@ 8:44 "...the manticore's butthole..."
That is my favorite out of context thing today. 😆
What about 4:58 ? X3
"I did something crazy... I drilled a big ol' BUTTHOLE!"
I love the Mardi Gras colors on Korak. I am also enjoying watching you relive your childhood.
The second hand nostalgia is an odd but good feeling. While I have never owned or played this particular game I have play games like it. I like the paint scheme you chose. It makes me think of my 90s action figures.
The 90s squarespace commercial was a nice dose of nostalgia too.
I still have a complete vintage Hero Quest and War Hammer game. This was a cool video.
Great paint job, especially on the manticore. It's hard to get enough definition with that color scheme and given that I think you nailed it!
I wish he'd filled the seam on the manticore. -and that gaping butthole.
I live the Green Goblinesque colours on korak the snake sorceror
That's the same game that got me into Wargaming, I still have some houses from the second one "Village of Fear". Also when you strip minis from paint i reccomend "Bio Strip",I discovered it a while ago. Really makes the work done better than anyting, has no nasty smell and works very fast.
When reliving the 90s, it only made sense to do an ad in the same vibe. Great work!
Your Square space add made me want to watch the movie Hackers lol good stuff!!
I'm loving the creativity with the sponsor ads.
I've had to strip minis in the past and used simple green. I don't now if it would work as well as the Zep stuff though. Thanks for the video I really enjoy your content!
I totally love these guys and that Squarespace ad was a delight. Dark World was seminal for my RPG growth as well.
I only learned about this game a couple weeks ago from you and Always Bored Never Boring and immediately picked up a dozen of the orc models because they are damn near identical to a certain monster from my favorite video game. I was shocked how detail light they were even after some kit bashing to add new weapons, shields, etc. Still, happy to have some now because I love old school goblins/orcs like this
I would love to see you paint up some old school Orks, really cool to see you so excited about the project! Have fun & enjoy the new quest 🛡️⚔️
Those look great. Glad you got to paint them.
Stop apologizing. Don’t listen to the haters. Just do you, that is why we watch.
Loved the square space ad. I can see 1990 Jeremy carrying around his pager.
I just love how respectful you are to these item's history
I am just loving your creativity in your ad breaks lately. The leaky manticore really felt like the kind of hiccups I always run into with projects, lol.
The Leaky Manticore also sounds like the name for a dive bar in a fantasy setting :-D
Damn, what a fun project. Good to see the joy of childhood bubbling out of you like so much degreaser
I want them all to paint! That game brings me back!
I haven't ever heard of this game before your last video but damn isn't it fun to watch you geek out about your childhood favorite. Hopefully this'll turn into a full series of restoring the whole game.
Yo when I was 6 (2006) a guy from the texi station on my block gave me a giant box of miniatures which I remember loving dearly. Most of my childhood toys were lost when I was around 14 and among them were those minis. Two years ago I got into the hobby of mini painting and one of the things that went through my head was finding those old models but I never knew what they were called, seeing that manticore triggered a primal memory in me and also flushed me with realisation that the weird little halfling chef I thrifted and painted last week was actually from that game as well through a truly bizarre chance! So cool! Also I own that exact pink cats shirt lol.
That is a most radical ad read brah! Love to see you having fun painting these retro dudes.
I can sympathize on the board game front - got an old copy of Omega Virus in storage that needs some love. But that's a really neat stylistic challenge for painting. I agree that you nailed the feel. Looks good, good luck on your quest!
I love what you do and how much you enjoy doing it! Don’t stop
So cool. Old mimis are the best. Great job and a good way to remember what being a gamer in the old times was like. Co-incidently, i spent some time painting some 90s era WH40K Eldar today. My pile of shame is decades old 😀
Dremel with a soft wire brush works wonders getting old paint off, without loosing detail. Only for metal though obviously!!
You gave the manticore an enema? Wow!
Absolutely fantastic. I love you staying to the original style. Great omage to a simpler time! I’m sure the kid who originally had that set would be proud!
Nostalgia. Sometimes its better to leave the past alone. I'm happy this is not one of those times.
Unrelated. I just started a Strahd campaign and have been making vampire oriented stuffs. I can't help but notice the channel doesn't have anything Strahd. You know... If you ever have a need to explore ideas... I'm always happy to adapt other people's ideas.
I just found a copy on Kijiji. Excited to paint the trolls and orcs
Wow! nice one on the degreaser taking out the enamel paint. I wasnt sure what would work on enamel.
Nice job on the scorpion cat man. That seems like a difficult model to pull off, but you did! 😁
Still have my Darkworld game. I think it’s all there. Cool to see you bringing it out. 👍
Bought some of the Dark World minis a couple years ago, including two of the manticores. Had some fun painting one tan with a red mane and a green tail and using those colors again on the other with a green body, tan mane, and red tail. They're not exactly great miniatures, but fun to paint and have a decent look to them.
Love the squarespace segment dude! It’s so rad
Edit: I mean the models are rad too lol
Fantastic ad read! This vintage game video series has been a pleasant nostalgia trip. Thank you for creating it.
I think filling the gaps you made trying to cut the manticore apart would have made it look much better.
I didn’t make those gaps. That’s how the model came originally. Turns out the game was shipped with them assembled. My goal was to keep things authentic looking so I decided not to fill gaps.
I restore 1:25 scale models. and to strip the old enamel paints I use easy off oven cleaner. You can usually see the paint fall off in 12 hours of letting the Oven cleaner sit on the model.
Squarespace got their moneys worth, perfect spot for theme of this video!
Man I miss the 90's. They were good times. We all seemed a lot happier, back then.
Refreshing challenge to shake up the routine. Nice video, thanks! :)
I actually remember my brother owning that game 😮
Awesome video 👍👍👍 I use greenstuff world paint remover had a load of heroquest minis painted in enamel they came out a treat
Thanks a lot for that comment ! I've been trying to strip enamel paint off some really old minis for years using several products and was about to give up. I will try this paint remover as soon as I can ❤
Hey I used to own that game as well! Great times..
This is a sidequest!
ok so when I was very young, I went over to my sister's friend's house, and we played a board game (well, sort of, I was very young and mostly just wanted to play with the pieces). I can't remember much about it, except that there was a sorta 3d plastic dungeon, and a lot of minis, and a big plastic rattle that I kept wanting to play with, but I wasn't allowed because that was the end of the game. For decades since, I have been trying to find out what that game was. IT WAS DARK WORLD!!!!!! I FINALLY FOUND IT!!!!!
What a project!. Do you plan to upgrade the cardboard walls? Like make new ones yourself or 3d print them?. Getting the original ones its pretty cool but eventually they will degrade imo
Love seeing the thought process here! I don't usually comment mid-video viewing... but...
It might be the black cats, or the wonderfully weird shoutout, but I thought of Evan&Katelyn with your Squarespace ad haha! The two channels collabing would make for some interesting things!
The drilling out the butt was also my first idea when you were talking about the model being filled
Edit: spelling
Video watched! I think you matched the box art very well :) looking forward to seeing how the other minis come together.
Thanks for showing the full process - art is a journey and a lot of people just see the finished product and not the work that goes into it, so thank you for that
Great video. Although I'm unfamiliar with the game you featured I could really relate to the video because over the lockdowns one of the things I did to help keep myself sane was to paint the figures from the Heroquest game.
The Dark World minis are way underrated. I used the boss for a Conan inspired Mordheim band and the orcs for another mordheim band.
Love stuff like this. It was only 3 weeks ago I uploaded a video (savage hunting grounds) recreating the very first diorama I ever made (as a child). It's awesome to bring everything you've learnt over the years and apply it to something you enjoyed or envisioned as younger person, basically honouring a younger version of yourself 🤣
Looks like fun. Good vid.
Brake fluid works every time It's great for stripping miniatures
"WHAT'S UP, VANCOUVER?!?! MY NAME IS JEREMY, AND WE ARE . . . MANTICORE'S BUTTHOLE!!!"
the manticore turned out really good
You nailed on these, keep it up!
I have a needle on my air compressor to remove liquids from hollow models. The needle is the kind used to inflate basketballs.
Great idea.
No to paraphrase but, "these models didnt have too much detail... SO I GAVE IT A BUTTHOLE!"
Great call on playing with the toys you got.
Lye and hot water will take off the paint but make sure you use a mask I’ve used it on plastic and metal minis
I fully support this side quest
Easy-Off oven cleaner works great on testors paint, the other thing I've heard but haven't tried is pinesol
Oh man as soon as you mentioned the manticore being hollow I knew it. I've used Greenstuff for a lot of mini stripping and always run into that stripping old eBay bought tanks and such.
Awesome!
Really interesting as usual ❤
Going to sound strange, but years ago I bought a bag of those miniatures from American Supply and Surplus - some company had rebranded them as Fantasy Monsters, pretty much just plastic bags with folded and stapled cardboard with a hole to hang the baggies from a hook.
Either some company managed to buy them from the original company or someone still had the molds.
Correction: American Science and Surplus. Been ten years, but they still have a lot of weird stuff.
noice. i have yet to paint anything from my set haha. i still say you should remake all three boards and terrain for the three games
1st time viewer. Found you through the TUP podcast.
You've probably heard this before, but you sounded just like Martin Mull from the Sabrina days on the podcast listening in my car.
Not so much on this video, but it's still there in patches.
It was a great episode.
I'll check out your content while I'm here!
Thinking of him from memory I thought you were crazy…then I listened to some old clips without looking at him…😮
The manticore saga made me laugh.
LAs Totally Awesome worked for stripping my Testor's painted Tower of the Wizard King figures. Can't recall if it's available up there in Canadia.
It has been a long time since I used enamels but I don't think IPA is a compatible solvent - it works for acrylics though. White spirit will strip the paint but I've no idea what it'll do to the plastic.
Regarding stripping paint, I saw someone do an experiment with various cleaners, and Simple Green came out in the top few without damaging even the softest minis.
I wish I could remember who did the video, or what other cleaners were tested besides the Simple Green and acetone (bad for plastic minis!!!).
classic manticore problems
it all turned out great tho!
It's not too hard to get a full set. In my experience, it's the expansions that are tricky to track down...
Are you going to remake the game board tiles?
'Yep.' @5:05 lol
YO! I have that mini! Dark World! That and Heroquest got a lot of play at my neighbor's house.
I'm glad the Manticore got over its bout of Salmonella poisoning! Now it can ho eat heroes and adventurers like it's supposed to.
Just found this game on FB marketplace complete for $40. Never knew about it until I saw this video.
Testor's Enamel Paint? Hoo boy, that takes me back to when I started painting minis. Don't do it kiddos, a bottle of that paint isn't cheap, craft paint from Walmart is cheaper, easier to clean up, and doesn't require paint thinner.
The kid wouldn’t have glued the manticore. It came already assembled back in the day.
ca. 2:10 : And you should use an Ultrasonic Cleaner with Isoprophyl-Alcohol in the first place. (Whatever some people might say.) Savety comes first.
I should do it. Noted 😄
dude the squarespace add if above and beyond, it got an audible laugh fyi
ca. 3:15 : In last half year or so, a Paint Stripper "Biostrip20" became quite popular here in Germany. As far as I get it, it might react with some Plastics, but in most of the cases it realy helped me out with some problematic paints, that dindn't wanted to part from the miniatures. (And we are talking about Metal in Aceton for several days, while the superglue was long gone and the bits lay there in the glass problematic moments.)
I'm not saying I liked the ad break more than the video itself, but I sure didn't scrub through it.
ca. 7:39 : Okay: Maybe this is just me as a 40k Gamer from somewhere in the Middle of the 90ies, but at least GW's paintrange (which got me into Miniature Painting) had metallics back then.
On the other Hand: We where all somehow influenced from the old Action Figure Lines Like MotU, which never head any metallics on them. (Or at least I don't remember any metallic Parts on my Action Figures back then.)
MotU was exactly what I was going for. I don’t remember them having any metallics.
Suweeet!
Ahahahaha good video
I would have been afraid that taking the paint off would have required a chemical that would also dissolve the plastic. Good thing that didn't happen.
you are NOT supposed to put iso or anything flammable in your ultrasonic cleaner cause you might blow up
Ppl do it all the time though
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial People does a lot of thing that they shouldn't^^
The wash&cure is a better idea.
well yes all of testoors paints last the the old littl jars are OIL bass but you cant ues stipers fore the platic like do metal but that de greeser whas good one and i seen siply green do it to but as new pain job looks great like it and yes you got paint fore well now just ues as fore now does have be the 90s whay just paint as think look to nest vid when you post one
Am I the only one that, at this point, want someone to buy the IP, reissue the game with new, modern sculpts?^^
If you don't name a tavern in your next game "The Manticore's Butthole" I will be severely disappointed.
I'm disappointed you didn't call it the information superhighway in the ad read...
Fair. Sorry.
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial For what it's worth I thoroughly enjoyed the video. My nerddom flourished in the 90s. (I was 15-25. The informative years)
What was that ad read lmao
Cringeawesome square space ad lol. Love it
