If you keep your yeast in the freezer, it lasts almost indefinitely. You can use it directly from the freezer. I bought my last batch in bulk from Costco before 2020, and it still makes beautiful bread.

I do the same thing, and if ever in doubt, a sample can always be tested by blooming a little in a bowl with some warm water and sugar. If it's alive, it'll bubble up after a few minutes 😊
I have some close to 10 years in my freezer and it’s still good. It’s the kind in a square brick.
Just put into a mason jar or a flip top tight container. I generally just replace every 2-3 years cause I keep in freezer door. I never ever use the block amt of instant (NOT rapid rise yeast) commercial yeast in several years cause I rarely use more than 1/4-1 tsp of yeast in my bulk dough. Been baking 100% of my bread since the 70s. Sooo much natural yeast in my air and in organic flour you just do not need more unless your perhaps making a heavily enriched dough like brioche or challah.
Lol.. I was coming here to say that, because I buy my yeast in 1lb vaccume sealed bags. Once I open it it goes in the freezer double bagged. I have never had any issues no freezer burn nothing

You can always paint the 3 brackets under the shelf (against the wall) agreeable grey to blend in to the wall :)
Yes! And maybe paint the underside and edge of the shelf agreeable grey also, so it will blend in with the wall. Or take the whole thing down altogether. It looks really out of place. The rest of the bathroom looks great, though.

I’d replace the shelf with a floating shelf, no brackets. They make different weight limits.

I got a bread machine at a church restore and it works great. I've made a lot of bread in it and certainly got my $10 worth out of it so far. Had it about 6 weeks now and LOVE it.

I LOVE water kefir! As your grains age, they will grow in size and the fermented taste will become more pronounced. New grains produce a very sweet kefir. A little trick for your second ferment is to add 1/4 c. of juice from peaches or pears that you have canned. I have done this for years and it’s a great way to use that liquid and not have to buy juice to flavor the kefir.

Oh hey a new video I missed, wonder what happened? Probably when my husband was ill 😷 yes seriously he had pneumonia for 6 months. . We were very busy at the time, I worked full time through it all praise the Lord ❤🙏

I hope everyone is feeling better. You could paint the bottom of the bracket gray so it's not so noticeable. You could also hang some of your decorations on the wall when you first walk in.

I went to my thrift store this weekend and bought my first bread machine. It works great and only cost 10 dollars!
Maybe put ivy or some plants under the shelf? Or an under-shelf hanging basket (the kind that hooks over the shelf to make another basket shelf)? Or fairy lights!
I keep my yeast in the freezer. I have used it many months past the use by date. It is fine. It still rises, and tastes fine.
I'm in N Michigan so empathize, we can't plant until after mothers day neither!!

It looked wonderful on the wall just inside the bathroom door. Also, thinking the black piece may be too harsh unless you change your under shelf brackets to black. The goats and little bath pic would be cute where you considered putting your highland. He's sooo adorable. Your kitchen turned out fabulous as I'm sure the rest of the home will be when done. I use past date yeast all the time, I store it in the fridge/ freezer so it last longer and as long as it isn’t too far past date I’ve never had any issues!

You could do a floating shelf instead of the brackets for the high bathroom shelf.
why not put the Highland cow print on the wall as you enter the bathroom. Lots of bare space there. Could move the shelf there, also!

You are so right about the various planting, last frost etc. times even in our state of Virginia. This will be our first growing season, here is coastal Va( Gloucester Point, just across from Yorktown and the Hampton Roads metro). Definitely a week or two ahead of south central Va south of Lynchburg where we moved from last June.
Looking forward to the trial and error in a new place!

Just "proof" the yeast by mixing it in with warm water and a healthy pinch of sugar. If the years is good (active) it will grow. Once the foam reaches the top of the cup (I use a one-cup measurer and 1/4th cup of warm water. The yeast in my fridge is nearly 5 years and it is still Active.
I had the same dilemma with date on my yeast this week. 😁 Made me feel better about my decision.

Jamerill, my water kefir grains preferred me to mix the hot water and sugar (and I put 1/4 tsp molasses, a raisin and a pinch of real salt) separate the grains until disolved, add the cold water and THEN pour on the kefir grains. I then did a second 24 hour ferment for a fizzy soda replacement.
On your shelf the brackets can be mounted on the top. Will lower the shelf for easier reach. Will have a more finished look like your after , I think. You are a tower of perseverance. BLESSINGS !!!
Here in southern WV we are 6a, so Mother's day is our last frost date. I always watch the long term weather and last year I got a 2 week jump on it. But in 2021, we had a hard frost on Mother's day. 🎉❤😂

I'm all about storage. Try to find something to put under the shelf to stash pretty rolled up towels in, like a wine rack or something similar.
