      They do not always run from people, Im guessing that may be a younger fox.
      I have had many families of fox living on my property, The adults generally stay
      farther away from humans than the young. Still, I have a gray fox that will pass by me at about 20 feet, in the evening when he goes to hunt! The younger fox are curious and unaware of the dangers.

    • @Lochness19
      @Lochness19 Před 3 lety +1

      The ones in my suburb are pretty nonchalant. They'll maintain a distance from humans but it's not like they'll run away the moment they see one since if they did they'd be constantly running due to the high population density. They're a bit like cats in that sense, they'll keep an eye on strange humans but won't run away. My dog's noticed them quite often on-least and wants to chase the foxes, but the foxes tend to act unbothered. One time the fox was acting submissive and playing to encourage my dog to play with it.

    • @bazedjunkiii_tv
      @bazedjunkiii_tv Před 3 lety

      i had the same thought but if the foxes are somewhat used to human presence in that area they wouldn't be bothered, i guess. and the dog ain't big enough - plus: is unphased enough - to pose any kind of threat so curiousity might've taken over.

    • @Lochness19
      @Lochness19 Před 3 lety +1

      @@bazedjunkiii_tv Yeah, well my dog is not that small (40-45 lbs so still a decent bit bigger than the foxes), and as I said one time the fox was acting like it wanted to play. My suburb has 1/3 acre lots mostly and I think the foxes don't even live in parks, just in people's yards, so they're pretty used to humans and pets. Same with our coyotes.

    The fox doesn't show any aggressive behavior at all. He yawns, arches his body, ears back, goes around the dog rather than straight for him, tries sniffing his butt, is all interested in sniffing where the dog was standing. He lays down, yawns some more, sniffs the grass....he was curious, probably young and wanting to play. And when the dog shows no real interest, he walks away. Look at any two normal dogs in the park getting to know each other, and you'd see the same thing.

    I don't think i'd have had my little dog so close to a fox. The fox is used to people and shows no fear whilst it's plotting the best way to attack the dog. Foxes are smart and cunning, don't be fooled by the yawning and sitting down. Before you know what's happened, it's poodle burgers all round!!

    • @FoxElliott
      @FoxElliott Před 6 lety +5

      its unlikely a fox, of all canines, would want to go after another canine. Remember, these are creatures who subside over rodents, berries, and insects. If a fox is going to attack a dog, it would be either because it has rabies or is cornered. It's not a wolf. Now, had this been a cat, you should be more worried, since they are bigger and likely would see them as a more opportunistic meal. So no, don't think this fox is playing 4 dimensional chess to ambush a dog just his size, if not bigger.

      @@bigverybadtom When I say canine, I'm referring to something which is related to or is similar genetically to a dog. Foxes are, like dogs, in the Canidae family, which extends to all "canis" or dogs in English. And yes, a fox will attack if it's terrified, as I said "either because if has rabies or is cornered." They are not openly aggressive animals, for the most part, when it comes to larger creatures. Foxes are scavengers mainly, they aren't top-competing predators like wolves or cougars. They hunt small prey, and scavenge what they can. Confrontation is the last thing they'd want to do.

      I agree, the foxes where I live would have kept a much bigger distance with humans. I'm in a suburb, so they don't get frightened of humans too much since they're used to the presence of humans, but they're still cautious around people and maintain a wide berth. I did notice one acting submissive when I was walking my dog, like maybe it wanted to play with my dog, but it was still maintaining a distance from me.

    That fox is not stalking the dog - the body language is similar to two unfamiliar dogs meeting. If he was stalking, the body language would be quite different. The fox would be more 'focused' and confident in his approach, and would actually be making an effort not to be seen. Besides, even though Spike's a small dog, he's clearly big enough that a fox would hesitate to get in a fight with him. Wild animals avoid fair fights, because even when you win you could get injured and be unable to hunt.

      @@lightpawshird Absolutely; where I live is fox central - nobody, in the thirty years I have lived here has lost a cat, let alone a dog, to a fox. If urban foxes were a danger to domestic pets they would not be tolerated and the newspapers would be campaigning for them to be eradicated.

    amazing - no fear in the fox what so ever - also no fear in spike - what a brave little furball

    This looks so familiar to a memory I saw when I was having a memory shift as a therian…
    But the video was much low quality and it was a white golden retriever (me)

    agree, its to many foxes who are in a bad condition, just seeing a fox in a healthy condition is so awesome

    Very interesting to see the so called "calming signals" of the fox like yawning and walking bows.
