    I also didn't mention nuclear warfare. There are going to be comments about how we can't have wars anymore due to mutually assured destruction. This is a possibility, but not one I agree with. Missile defence systems have gotten better, being capable of knocking half of the nuclear attacks out of the sky. Hypersonics may change this. However, nuclear arsenals have also shrunk enormous and nuclear payloads have also shrunk dramatically. I've heard the estimate that a nuclear war in 1980 would cause 1 billion deaths, and today 300 million. This is a manageable number when you look at China and India's populations. Also, it's in no one's self interest to have a nuclear war, with China having a treaty that it will never have a nuclear strike without the Chinese homeland nuked first. The US has a far greater nuclear advantage over China and so China would not start one since it would be so outclassed. It's sort of similar to chemical warfare in the 2nd World War, where all the powers involved had poison gas, but all knew that the other sides would just use it if they did.

      @Flix Flox Tbh, I just want to live a life in which basic human rights are upheld, and political discourse becomes a matter of ideological nuance as opposed to all out ideological war. It is depressing knowing that in my lifetime, basic resources will become war commodities and that I will most likely spend my life simply staying afloat in an ever regressing and outdated economic model. I just want to work, have a family, and enjoy my leisure time, but instead I need to constantly devote time to thinking about what will happen as a result of international crises. This video is depressing and whilst I'm glad it existed, I hate the very nature of it's neccesity...

      At least you have oil. All you have to do is not to be the very first conflict. If you can manage that, then when random conflict starts somewhere else, lets say middle east, it will automatically mean that oil production for global market will be restricted. Which means that price will skyrocket.
      Just look how Nigerian standard of living improved between 2003-2014 after invasion of Iraq, since oil got scarce and price was near 100$.
      But yeah, with that population growth, that oil revenue will have to be split between much more people, so it won’t be as fun as 15 years ago.

    • @stafer3
      @stafer3 Před 3 lety +41

      @Pecu Alex I didn’t mean it as all is fine because of oil. Obviously it’s better to develop and not to be reliant on things that are mined. And all other problems are still there. I just meant that as it’s not completely hopeless position.
      Compare Nigeria with Iraq. Nigeria doesn’t border some big ass rising new empire that could swallow it. Iraq can even choose whether it gets taken over by Iran or Turkey. Nigeria doesn’t have to worry about some other country controlling its water supply. As was mentioned, Iraq’s water is controlled by Turkey. Corruption is in both. Ethnic division is in both. Oil is in both.
      So Nigerian position isn’t great. But at least it’s not in middle of cold war between Iran and Saudi Arabia. Nigeria is nicely far away from all potential external conflict. From all big rising powers. Nearest big rising power besides Nigeria is Ethiopia and that is on other side of Africa with no way to interfere with Nigeria.
      So Nigeria only has to worry about internal problems. And internal problems are all within power of people to solve it. So it completely depends on Nigerian people.

      America forces this war to happen, they wanted this war to happen. Just like they want a war with China with Taiwan, they want a war with Iran, they blockaded Venezuela causing a collapse of its economy and propping up some fake president. America has done more coups, invaded more countries, and killed more civilians than every country in the world. Russia said in 2008 that the US needs to stay out of Ukraine yet they went in, armed Ukraine, have CIA bases and trained it's military and have billions arming Ukraine while Ukraine killed Russian civilians and was preparing to invade the donbass as soon as Biden took power, and Putin prepared his army to stop that invasion. The people of donbass and Crimea voted to join Russia and Russia said no and tried the Minsk agreement, that Europe openly said they never intended to implement same with Ukraine. The West wanted this war, they wanted to use Ukrainian blood to kill Russians.

      India is what I like to call a forgetful Constitutional Democracy, in that it is a Democracy, but it often ignores that fact. One of the consequences of this is that India, if she insists on acting like a Hindu and a cast state rather than a pluralist, religiously neutral, capitalist state, will find herself fighting the Chinese without America fully on side. It is likely that the American religious conservative right will not fully support a pro-Indian administration in a time of crisis if India continues to betray its own constitution with respect to religious freedom. Europe: **Oh boy here I go killing again.**

    • @Multi407D
      @Multi407D Před 3 lety +16

      @StrategicFooyoo Not really, if gulf oil is closed and Russia decides to stop selling oil to europe at the same (or similar times) about half of all global oil production is effectively neutered. The miss match in supply and demand will result in poorer better armed countries (turkey, India, Italy, Greece) raiding unprotected commerce. Especially if oil hits 150+ a barrel (it becomes cheaper to pirate than purchase).
      The only countries that are able to secure these shipping lanes either have a large blue water navy with aircraft carriers, or are in a geographic position that will be to its advantage (UK, France, India, Japan for example). Europe, Africa and China will feel the brunt of this, as they are at the end of supply chains and would have to completely overhaul there navies (which can take decades) to avoid de industrialisation.
      US trade is largely done with NAFTA and CAFTA. Any exceptions include trade that is largely irrelevant to the US economy (less than 2% of gdp, which can be easily replaced). The US has zero incentive to protect shipping lanes and the rest of the world is unable to. Its a big rip for most countries that are successful artificially.

    • @Multi407D
      @Multi407D Před 3 lety +1

      @StrategicFooyoo It comes back to game theory. Sure it would be ideal if all sides get along. However, when people demand more of a recourse than what can be sourced, countries expand into empire (or sanction privateers). Its a race to the bottom, but it cannot be avoided so long as people continue to rely on oil for plastics, fertilizer (some countries could see agricultural output half without oil), Transportation and military.

    • @Multi407D
      @Multi407D Před 3 lety +7

      @StrategicFooyoo Nah russia and gulf states (especially opec) structure there economy in such a way that they can strategically stop selling oil for geopolitical purposes (think 1971) (or in the event of iran closing the straits). Russia in paticular has a fairly diversified economy (relative to other oil producers) and could survive for decades on reserve cash. It is in russias interests to cripple europe, especially if they are 'democratically reclaiming' land in eastern europe.
      The US has domestic oil production that is sufficient to fuel itself. Even if shale production decreases (unlikely) canada and mexico export more than enough oil for the US.
      Europe, China and Africa will be the real losers in this scenario. UK, France and japan will probably be able to 'democratically secure' an oil source in Africa (or the middle east). But aside from that its game over for most countries.

    • @Multi407D
      @Multi407D Před 3 lety +7

      @StrategicFooyoo The US is no longer interested in invading countries for oil (even if it is intended for the US market), let alone for other countries. Why would the US keep oil lanes open if they dont benefit from it? Invading iran or russia may benefit europeans or the Chinese, but not America.
