I use a 2 inch roll of 3M blue painters tape. Apply in a bout 2 min remove in 30 seconds. Cost $7. Can do about 75 washes with it.
You would think GM would have designed it differently in the first place but at least this helps.
Waste of money and time as far as I’m concerned. Really think about driving in the rain
I think it’s a good idea but not worth anywhere near 100 dollars. For 100 I would expect near to no water at all. I appreciate your real world testing for us to see. Unfortunately, I’m going to mark this one a No for me. I think once you take out the long piece of foam at the bottom, where the water collects. All that collected water will drop right into the compartment. And honestly if I need to use a air dryer or air blaster I may as well just blast the engine area too.
I just used Big towel to cover the engine before I wash the car. It help a lot just wash your car when engine is not hot.
I folded 10 cheap dish towels and moisten them. I placed them over those areas . After washing the car I checked and had no water leaks. Placed them in the washer with my other rags and used them over.
I’m going on a year with my C8 and have never wasted my car. The secret is to not get it dirty. I only drive in perfect weather and wipe it down with detailer.
Hi, love your channel, I have owned 4 Vettes in my lifetime, Don't drive anymore but still very interested in Corvettes. I love the C8 Vette but my only gripe with the design is just what your video is centered around. You would not need those vents if the headers were not up in the engine compartment. My last Car was a 1974 DeTomaso Pantera. It was a mid engined powered and never suffered from overheating and did not need vents in the deck lid. headers ran down and to the back of the car. Why do you think GM opted to run the headers up and then down to the mufflers. I never found many people complaining about the messed up engine compartment, That part of the design to me sucks bigtime. BTW My Pantera ate Lambo's and other Italian stallions for lunch time and time again.....
How bout just put a towel inside before washing the car :)
If say they are not quite there. I’d try to make these in 3 pieces total than snap over both sides and below the glass, that divert the water outside of the area.
Keep up the R&D please.
I do wish they were available when I had my C8 coupe because it just made me even more want to try the C8 stingray HTC
I want it wet to be wiped down and control the dust. A clean, visible engine is a major attraction for me!
Hello Mike, thanks for the information. I have been looking for something like that for a while. Take Care, and have a Blessed Day. The Corvette Monster.
You’re very welcome, I’m happy it’s finally available! Thank you, you do the same. 😊👍
I always used 6in track tape which works well but I think for the cost savings I will be getting this product
I just now watched your short and had to find out more about this wonder product. Like I "wonder" if it's worthwhile or not? 😉 I already knew the answer since you're endorsing this product. I had no idea so much water actually accumulated in the engine bay. So, with this add-on there's no runs, a few drips, and no errors. 🤣 I would hope before the generation ends GM will correct this problem., but this add-on is very well priced and worth it! Well done Mike. 👍👍
Save the Wave🙋♂
All high performance mid-engine car have the same type of vents which also let water in….McLaren, Lamborghini, Ferrari, etc. it’s not a design problem it’s required airflow.
I’ve been using blue painters tape to keep water out. So far seems to work fine. Also I do use a Master Blaster.
Watched short first, and this video was next to short. Excellent.
Do you always wash your car in your garage? Curious if you use anything to help keep the water off the walls or reaching the electrical outlets. Thanks!
C7 owner here. I respect the fact that this is a non-issue for some. For me, it would be simply because I don't have the time to dry an "extra" area after washing my car. I probably would go the HTC route if I got a C8 for several reasons...this being one of them.
I saw the short first, but I could have just come straight to this video too.
Nice Captain America paint scheme! Love it! Thanks for your videos.
Definitely interesting. If history would predicted the future, there would be no way the engine bay would get wet. In 1963 the hood vents were designed to be open but due to ( and there are a few stories) either hot air getting into the cabin, rain getting into the engine bay, or even the front of the car lifting the production vents were faux. Maybe This time around engineering prevailed with Tadge and team. :)
Do you have a coupon that we can apply to purchase
What is the water absorber that you're talking about?
Smart product. I'm getting the convertible though.
I would rather have water get in so I know I have to dry down the engine bay. I do this with my C7 Z.
Are those vents not there as a heat extractor? I don't think blocking those vents would be a good idea.
That's only to block during washing of the car to prevent water from entering the engine bay.
A mad back window 😊 awesome engine bay
Looks like a great product! My solution was much more expensive…a HTC. 🤔🤦😂
The site says they are on backorder. Also, it doesn’t list the price.
I currently put beach towels under the vents when I wash the car which captures all the water.
The question needed to answer is 'will the product staand up to the water jets in a touchless carwash or will the force just blow them off the car like another product which uses long rubber pieces to cover the vents. Just being able to cover the vents from a regular hand washing garden hose is not what is wanted. It must be able to seal it under the water pressure in a touchless auto car wash.
Hey bro will this fit 2023 c8 z51?
And what about the front end grill getting destroyed by bugs, where is the grill cover for this ???
I made my own for $20.00 & and only a few hours of labor. I really screwed up that time value proposition.
If the frame work around the mesh is dirty, gritty and you push those inserts in you just scratched the paint!
GM did thousands of miles testing the C8 in all weather conditions, did GM not see the problem.
There isn’t a problem here, it’s just a slight inconvenience for most. I personally don’t mind it at all.
Not yet having a c8 as mines on order , I’m unclear how water gets under the rear window ? Are there air vents to let heat escape ? That your then plugging ?
Yes, the vents let the heat dissipate. This device Mike is talking about is for use only when washing the car, and only to keep the engine bay dry in the process.
I thought you took the capt America wrap off
Even if you're just thinking about purchasing a C8 in the future, go ahead and buy this.
So what is your plan when you're out and it rains. It take five minutes to wipe down the engine bay, plus it keeps it clean. It will take you longer to install & remove than it will to wipe down the bay.
I was intrigued... until I saw the $130 price tag. At that price, I'd rather just use painters tape or just take the extra time to wipe down the engine bay.
but what about the convertables.... they can get about 2-3 inches of water behind the glass....it wont drain...???
Why not have a permanent gutter underneath the vents that channels the water to the rear. That way you can drive in the rain. 😉
You can drive it in the rain, these weren’t built for rain driving, they were built for washing your car. This engine bay was tested pouring thousands of gallons of water into the bay and it never affected the engine. It’s just a minor inconvenience for most after washing their car.
@@BrinkofSpeed While I haven't had access to a C8 coupe for a long enough period of time to really study the underneath side of the hatch, I still think some type of gutter system deflecting the water down and away from the engine would be the best of both worlds. That way rain water or car wash water would not be a problem.
It doesn’t matter how much water goes in there during washing it’s nothing compared to driving it in the rain lol. Which the car has 0 issues doing
I was going to get them but with tax & shipping it was $170...just can't justify that for something so simple. I'll do an alternative method.
Drying the car down before opening the hatch when you had the product installed doesn’t provide an apple-to-apple comparison. I think you would have found half the amount of water in the engine bay had you dried the car down before opening the hatch without the product installed. Also, I personally like a little water in the engine bay so that I can dry it down and remove any road grime that accumulates between washes.
So after $100 you still have to sop up water. What's the point? Sorry, that's just how I see it.
Does it do that when it rains and why doesnt gm take care of that
Simple, but genius….
Awesome! It was a giant mark against getting a coupe
I was curious when someone was going to try to tackle this issue. This is one of the reasons I want to go convertible. I just don't think I could handle keeping that engine bay cleaned hah.
Yeah, I’m one of the weird ones out there, I actually like the water getting in there. It helps me clean the dust out and get the bay looking spotless. 👍😊
@@Maximum1A I haven't got the convertible yet but the main reason I want to get the HTC is I've nver owned a vert. I just know how much of a clean freak I am and it seems like it would be a pain to keep that back glass in the coupe spot free. But maybe not if you get it ceramic coated etc.
Doesn't look like ti works very well. Still to much water. I bought 4 bath towels at Costco for $15.00 and place them in the engine bay. I don't have any of this water. Towels are a little damp so I use one of them to wipe down any dusty areas. I think the designer of the plugs needs to go back to the drawing board.
Aren’t those vents there for a reason? Should they be covered up?
Remember, this is only for washing the car, do not, cover if you are going to drive the car.
For those that dont want the water, nice.
I have yet to find it an issue after a year and 10000 miles. Its just washwater...CLEAN wash water. Just wipe it down after?
Put towels inside to catch the remaining water that drips in after the wash even with this product.
These are not great at all. Was so excited to get these and no matter how many feet I stand back when rinsing the car with the pressure washer and not directly at the blocks, they get blown out of the vents and fly onto the ground and the foam strip does not go under the glass, took several minutes trying to pry it in and still wasn’t a good fit, and they definitely don’t set into the vents as flush as in your video. For $129 I expected better
I wish you had shown the vents around the window first so I could see what the water problem was. Not a vette owner.
Can I take my C8 through a car wash? I asked my guys and they said C8’s and other cars like a McClaren’s and Ferraris have been through.
I wouldn’t advise it unless it’s a touchless was, without tracks for your tires to go into. Then and only then will it not ruin your car.
One of the best in the Motor companies lineup One awesome motorcycle Thank you for the video take care
Just think when you buy that 200k ev vette you won't have this issue. It may cost you 30k to replace rhe batteries but hey your engine won't get wet. 😉
Something is wrong, how could the engineers forget this design flaw ??? It doesn't make sense. Unless there really is no issue with water leaking into the engine, maybe the water cools the engine and its a benefit?? I don't get it. Also you were spraying only in one direction, from the top down towards the rear end angle, what if it is raining cats and dogs. Maybe due to the carbon fiber and engine, water is not a danger ??? I think it is.
Its a neat little addon but isn't it ultimately reducing the passive heat escape for the engine?
You install them BEFORE you wash.. and remove them afterward... NO you do not leave them in place... 😑
Mike, this looks to be a great solution to this problem. But i have to say, it’s overpriced.
Wow, $100 is too much? I think it’s priced perfectly, but this is just my personal opinion. Believe it or not, these weren’t cheap to manufacture and they aren’t a cheap material either so they’re gonna last. Thank you for your feedback though, I really appreciate it, and so will Amora Scott. 👍😊
Not only is it too expensive, it doesn’t really work. Just lay a towel on the engine compartment before washing the car. That works fine and it’s free. Thanks for the video.
Good job on the video. I found it to be clear and to the point. I have a C7 but if I had a C8 coupe I would consider buying these. A little help here and there isn't a bad thing. :-)
Put a towel over your engine before you wash
Not worth a $129 price tag. They're building them probably for less than $10.And they're not a perfect fit.
Major design flaw
Why won't Chevy recall the car to have this engine bay cover installed??
I don’t think that is ever something they should consider. It was built to keep cool and this is exactly how it does that.
Is this guy a comedian?.......LOL....Yeah, recall the car.....LOL.....Like it's a surprise to them.......LOL 🤣

I ordered my son a set for his birthday. 260 dollars total for my anal retentiveness...😵💫 I think the price is a bit steep... however, my peace of mind says it's worth every penny...
日本で買えない😂欲しい
Cool product, but Chevy needs to address this "problem"... Not acceptable.
It is cool. There’s no reason to address it. They have to have these vent openings to keep the engine bay cool. Even million dollar supercars have this problem.
No more gasoline powered vehicles in California after 2030😢
LOL! Can't wait to see how many blackouts they have a week with all that strain on the electric grids, mental illness must be hereditary in the Pelosi family tree...LOL!
Regarding this awful issue on this new expensive midengined coupe, a person still has to deal with this issue whenever it rains? Guess, I will purchase another convertible?
FAIL
Please message me about getting this product
Ladies and gentlemen, today I’m about to show you a brand new C8 Corvette product that 1000’s of you have been waiting for! Keep your Engine Bay DRY!!!
Perhaps GM designed it that way in order to allow hot air to be evacuated? If so the question becomes which is more detrimental: water in the engine compartment or increased heat? Btw, it's a rhetorical question.
I need the product where can I buy it 😊
