"I genuinely don't like heights, okay?"
*Has a pilots license*
id forgotten that
+xweert711 You don't feel the same fear in a plane as you would on the top of a building or a mountain
Z-Wasp I'd hope so. The whole reason i'm too afraid to get in a plane is because of my fear of heights.
xweert711 Trust me, I've got a big fear of heights, but being in a plane is pretty cool actually
Z-Wasp Alright. I'll grow a pair and try to ride a plane eventually. That's honestly pretty reassuring.
My family is from Bolivia. When I was 15 we drove this very road from La Paz to Yungas. I don't know if stunt drivers drove the more dangerous scenes. But I can say that there are many points on the road that are indeed as narrow as in the last bit of the film. It is every bit as dangerous as they made it out to be.
Luis Camacho Well why can’t your government do something about it?
Why can’t someone put a damn railing so that nobody has to lose their life?
@@gustav_a.mozumder2011 bc they either are picky about spending money or is poor bc it is a different country then us you know.
@@gustav_a.mozumder2011 There is a much safer road now, so they definitely have done something about it. The Yungas road here is used exclusively for cycling now. The new road is paved with railings as well.
@@gustav_a.mozumder2011 Are you from a Euro country, my man? Because it seems kinda moot for you to call out the goverment of a third world country for open corruption and ignorance your governments do it behind your backs. Not trying to be offensive, just stating raw facts
@@WrektSK Bolivia's in South America though.
hammond :"james is killing jeremy but things are going well"
+VMKAROUND 365 top gear !!
I thought it was “so things are going well
could be worse
James: Dose this mean he's not coming on?
Hammond: Well James, you hacked him with your machete, because he bumped into you on Death Road. So no he's not coming on.
He said "bet" not but
" Now you're gonna get machete'd to death ! "
James May.
I think we know bruh.
"James is killing Jeremy" .
Thats bit makes me cry!! He says it like it happens so often.
At around 7:00 imagine if he just screamed "SPEED AND POWER!" and floored it off the cliff
OMG! I yell that all the time at work and no one gets it! LMAO " ok chaps here we go SPEED AND POWER"
best comment yet ...😁🤣🤣😂🤣
I had a heart attack on the last part.
Are you ok?
I bet you used your own name in vane :P
No shit buzz killer
no, people are actually dumb enough to think that last part was real.
Ms. Jesus Christ
Driving a reliant robin here is like suicide😂😂
+Anne Brooks Anywhere is suicide when driving that.
Yeah. I'd probably be laughing so hard if I got the chance to do that, or screaming in fear.
Actually You do have a point there in your comment. A reliant robin on Bolivia's Death Road would never stand a chance in hell of lasting or coping on a road THAT high up.
I could literally drive a robin up my driveway and still die from it
I wouldent be surprised if a Robin driver drove on that same road and suddenly fell off the edge.
I think around 6:45 was one of the few times Jeremy actually thought that he could've died
My heart stopped right there.
No he wasn't, because he knows that in script he survived
What about at 3: 01
james was gonna machete jezza to death
he could have died there lol
that's all scripted -___-
xxxXXXCH04XXXxxx you fools when their cars brake down and they roll over the cliffs they dead. And thats not skriptet then.
I live in La Paz and go often to Coroico... I can tell you, this is genuine! But there is a new road and the "death road " is almost only used by tourists on mountainbikes. Hardly any buses or lorries go down that road anymore... Thank heavens
.
Good. At least now it is safer. Not much one can do other than blast back the mountainside and making it a Two lane road. But then again that same blasting might also collapse some of the more dangerous sections and would leave areas prone to falling rocks in the future. But that is what was done in some areas of the United States.
How did their insurance company allow them to do this special?!
King kong is that you sir ?
+Max Power Because most of it is fake bullshit, that's why.
+Pippykinz I would love to see some evidence to backup that bold claim. ;)
+Pippykinz You think that's fake 1:54
+Max Power They did it regardless.
Man...the part after this where James had no battery and very honestly told Richard (with only flashlights lighting up the back of Richard's Toyota to guide him through this) "Please don't leave me" still gives me the chills. Such chemistry with these three.
Jeremy knew he had to do something. He started to panic at first, but then the adrenaline set in and he put his skills to the test. Well done mate.
this clip is from one of the best journeys they have ever done. The whole thing is packed with moments like this..fantastic show
Anyone else gonna acknowledge how close Jeremy was to death at the end
I think Clarkson at the end shit himself.
''Some poop just came out!''
-Jeremy Clarkson
This made me genuinely nervous watching this...
It took me like 3 minutes AFTER watching this video to take my hand off from over my mouth and type this comment. HO LEE SHIT
NO SHIT!!
I literally just said that "Hooooooly shit."
Daniel Maydana you suck
NYCBostero id like to go on this road, imagen the adrenaline kick
I think the truck drivers have way bigger balls because they probably drive on that road all the time AND their vehicle takes up way more space, so every time another car approaches it's must always be a struggle to get through alive.
Wow, my palms haven't sweated that much watching a YT video since I watched "Climbing to the Top of a Transmission Tower."
"James is killing Jeremy, but things are going well." -Richard Hammond
I’ll never forget that scene with Jeremy on the edge.. intense as hell!
strange how we'd rather risk our lives then put scratches on our cars, id scrape the shit out of that white car, pay the insurance all day, thanks for living.
Thorbjørn Madsen i think you fell off this cliff, didnt die, just hit your head pretty hard
Yeah guys, how dare you talk about scratching somebodies car?! Better to just fall to your death!
I'd just jump off, cus I ain't gonna live there.
May scared of heights
Richard scared of bugs
Jeremy?
Chinese stig
Manual labour
Queueing
+Aiman Zaki Lack of Power
+Luca Day-Sawyer That is his biggest fear, no doubt.
James hates heights but pilots an aircraft lol. He is one peculiar man and a legend at that.
XD Thats almost a similar fear he has in common with me X).
There's a difference between a thing that's designed with crap tons of safety in mind and a narrow road with a bottomless pit of death.
i watched this whole episode yesterday and realize this is the best top gear special so far....
He was so close the edge at the end
it's fake dude. The gratuitously edited cuts should be enough to tell you that they just stitched in footage from a safer part of the road and he wasn't ever in any danger.
+herpderpmonkey I don't think you understand how video editing works.
It's real but they probably had a safety device
vanta black It's fake as shit dude. Look at the editing and staging. Imagine where the hell the cameraman had to be to get genuine shots.
Notice how it never shows the entire scene in 1 shot. It's always landscape shot, close up of car, interior, close up of tire, close up, close up. If a real cameraman were there filming a real incident, they'd show all of that shit in one moment.
its real they released a special commentary dvd of the bolivia special ,the crew and the producer Andy wilman was ahead of jeremy when the local in the 4x4 came and they decided to film that part , they had camera men all over the place
lol. 4.05 "oh my car just unexpectedly broke" meanwhile a crew cameraman was "unexpectely" shooting him from outside on foot lol
Might have broken then they shot him saying it again, or like the end, it was fake
they edited to look like it was straight after. in reality those 2 shots could have been minutes apart
legendp2011 Yup, or scripted like the ending
One of my favorite episodes, I would like to drive on this road one day. The 70's land cruiser that Richard Hammond was driving is the best truck.
0:15 "You will need a beep there, BBC Two."
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I cried in laughter
You'd have to either be brave or insane to drive a car this dangerous.
He's British, of course he's brave.
Jason Carpp We drive them every single day in Bolivia. We are all very brave people.
Bianca Ugalde And I thought driving I-90 was suicidal.
Bianca Ugalde Indeed you are. Very brave and very foxy.
+Jason Carpp we drive the most old pieces of scrap in Bolivia on these roads lol
I would too frightened to drive a vehicle, or be a passenger in a vehicle on this type of road. I would want to walk it even if it would take me some days!
being a passenger is far more scary, i can tell you that. because you have no control over the possible events.
BlackenedThunder I just whimper and pray to whatever that i don't die.
BlackenedThunder
Actually on a road like this your weight in the passenger seat might mean the difference between life and death!
Did this in a class C RV
FLAMINGAIRSOFTSTUDIO I dont believe you
I forgot I was watching a pre-recorded program when I first saw the clip of Jeremy squeezing past that car at the end. I held my breath
Me, too! A little pee came out!
Matthew Bailey First time I lol for real in a long time. Wth, "A little pee came out!"?
Some poo has come out
I literally shut my eyes tight and took off my headphones when I was watching Jeremy drive past that whit Toyota near the end of the vid! God!
I love James' 'request' of Jeremy and Richard at the beginning of this clip because almost everyone I know would probably do the same thing
Driving on that road at night under a downpour is when we hit the adventurer's pay dirt.
Lol 3:36.....That's my steering....I'm inches to death.....
The end was insane
As a little piece of info, this road is now closed to vehicular traffic, because they built a new Yungas Road a few years ago, with improved safety features and wider lanes.
this even freaked me out in my desk chair...
This is one of the most intense episodes...
I had to hold my breath while watching this
Ending gave me the willies, lol. Good video.
if people would organise a rally race on that road, holy shit, that would not be good
"Should we really make this road? It seems a bit dangerous."
"Is ok."
Yeah, I'd drive that road.
On an enduro bike
vanpenguin22 ride
May doesn't like heights but he has a Private Pilot's License. Nice.
There´s no way he was actually in that car.
I actually felt scared for their lives, especially Jeremy when he was on the edge of that cliff unable to move, or else his car would fall
Serious question: Has anyone ever rally'd in that road?
See all the crosses? They tried
But I wanna see Kubica do it.
2 friends of mine went down it in Mountain bikes with other visitors as part of an organised race that seems to be a common activity there.
Whoa-ho-ho-hey. Did they film that?
closedcl8 Unfortunately not (that was the last thing on their minds as they went barreling down), but there are many who did and uploaded it to CZcams.
They had to sign a contract beforehand stating that the tour operator hold no responsibiliity over their deaths (18 went over since '98).
I was about to have a heart attack just watching Jeremy get past that toyota. That was f***in' crazy!!!
The part at the end is the scariest moment I have ever seen on television. That's why I love this show; it's hilarious, it's entertaining, and it's actually real. What other program could possibly show you footage that amazing?
best series ever among top gear
my favourite ever episode.
All these multiple camera angles perfectly in place.
My favorite episode of my favorite show of all time. The guys chemistry make watching Top Gear a daily must for me.
6:55 he couldve just let the other guy drive through so he could turn easier?
Yeh but it's top gear
killbotone p
killbotone neither of them were jeeps
Man i'd kill for that rust free FJ40
Angry May pulling the handbrake and bursting out= Priceless...
best Top Gear special
6:37 The ultimate squeaky-bum time.
I would just drive as close to the wall at all times on this road and absolutely refuse to pass on the outside. Haha if someone tried to do the shit to me that they pulled on Jeremy, we would just be sitting there all day
I'd laugh if some rocks fell on you as a result of scraping the wall lmao
Driving close to the wall is bad, ditches get u stuck and if u hit the wall rocks will fall causing a land slide, may be a death sentence. This roads nickname was Dead Road for a reason and claimed to be the most dangerous as well.
BRAVO BRAVO!!! the last 5 seconds where amazing!!
its funny to see british ppl fight
What's a ppl?
Why is it funny?
that escalated quickly
It’s funny to see American people write
More triggers here than in a gun show
Hope you notice the Bolivian drivers drive big old trucks and convert one lane into two. That is insane....
this looks a bit like a slightly bad mountain road in Norway, there are many of those,
Jeremy is badass with 4x4 and sport cars !!
Its wonderful how this road brings out the absolute best in the top gear cast.
Looks a awful lot like nepal. Seriously want to visit Bolivia now....
The last scene is filmed like in a movie, they even had close-ups of the small rock falling at the edge of the road.. I think it's done in controlled situations it's not that real-life really. It's very well filmed though
It's just good videography, it's obviously not a set, the gorge is real and so is the road which means if it is fake that it's either cgi, which it obviously is not, or finally and most realistically it could be a stunt double, but I'm pretty sure it's Clarkson in the car.
This is not a controlled scene, stunt man or not there is no way to 'control' a car being on the edge of a cliff. Even if Jeremy didn't drive the car the scene is still real and not controlled or faked.
However I do believe it's Jeremy in the car, with the angles they have and the precarious conditions of the road it would be hard to make multiple takes of the same shot with different drivers.
All likeliness points toward Jeremy actually driving the vehicle, I know it's hard to believe but it's harder to believe that the video was faked.
It is a true non fake scene
@@chickentube2229
It's 100% staged.
That's movie making technology, they had cmeras in place, it was controlled. Most likely the road was closed, the other driver was one of theirs. That wasn't a spontaneous shot, that was carefully planned
@@Jack_The_Ripper_Here "It's %100 Staged" - Please prove this statement, how could you possibly know if it was staged, where you there to see it being filmed ?
"Thats movie making technology" - You mean cameras and editing ? What does the technology used have anything to do with whether the shot is staged or not ?
"It was controlled" - Oh really please tell me how you make driving on the edge of a cliff a controlled environment ? Jeremy could lose traction, over correct or the road could erode from beneath him at any point, that is not a controlled environment.
"That wasn't a spontaneous shot, that was carefully planned
" - Whether the scene was spontaneous or planned is irrelevant, there is no way to tell if the car was or was not one of theirs, even if the car was one of theirs Jeremy is still driving on the side of a cliff, the danger is still real.
@@chickentube2229 bro, they are actors playing in a movie.
There is a script
You gooffy little man
The last part. It got my heart stopped and whispered, "Jeremy..."
Great job
imagine doing your driiver licence driving test on this road, I would choose to walk.
6:51 I literally pooped my pants :D
BGBry saaaammmme brook
wow that last scene. holy shit props UK Top Gear!!! You guys are the BEST!
They need to make the last part a VR experience
I love how he shit talks a samurai, and praises a god awful land rover
07:00...shit
But they are staging them more and more in the most recent series. Still love them.
Ahhh, the days of 360p…I don’t miss them at all!
anyone notice che guevara at 4:20
+Roy “CamoGunman” Williams I did. VIVA CHE!
Thats one of my dream roads to drive. Who's down?
They should do rally races there!
I'm in 👍
"My car is perfect in every way apart from it not starting." classic Jeremy
There is not enough money in the world to convince me to drive on that road!
he basically was falling g off it BUT SERVIVERD.....
NOOOOOOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOOOOOOPE NOPE
I downhilled that road with a bike! It is closed to cars now and you can do guided downhill rides.
Gracias Pela Visita
more than 80% of all the roads in Nepal are dangerous than this so called death road
7:00 anyone want to tell me how they got that shot (and some other shots of the rocks falling down the mountain on a few other cuts) when there was no camera crew near him as shown later on seconds later? Not to put everyone in a bad mood, and I know Top Gear doesn't script EVERYTHING but this is a good sign this was scripted. .-.
agree but they wont risk his life of course. But its showing you how crazy and dangerous it may be if you are there driving on your own without BBC crew and all those safety stuff. (i believe his car was secure with rope somehow) But when i saw this for a first time i almost shit myself :D
The land rover got past, the one with the cameras and shit, and shot with zoom. It's mind bogglingly easy.
I've always been on the fence with this one watching it after the fact, some people have said the Toyota SUV was in fact one of the camera cars so they staged the waterfall bit, but the panicked way Jeremy yells "Stop there!" seems genuine, like he was in fact yelling and gesturing to a local who (likely) didn't speak English. As far as the shots of the rocks tumbling and the close-up of Jeremy, that was probably filmed after. They do that lots in this show, film it as it happened then add establishing shots later (like when they do the long-distance races).
Like I'm not already anxious enough, I had to see a visual representation of anxiety.
Mike Siegler It's very exaggarated tho
Awesome top gear!!
now make stig drive that road
In a Citroen WRC car... for his death.
Now time to do it in an Alfa 8c or Hennessy venom GT. Spyder if possible
It would get destroyed by the dirt and mud
+Albert Jia yeah and its low profile car
better try a marauder Then XD
better try a marauder Then XD
Thanks I was nearly sick there!! You're a brave sod!
thank you very much, really appreciate it :D
2:55 Russian style :D
i would of scraped the shit out of the toyota
Michael caplinger Right screw the toyota, I wouldn't risk my life to preserve the paint job on it.
Just walking along that road would be terrifying!
no kidding i was thinking about that while watching one of their specials last night.
