I live in Arizona and perform in the beautiful city of Scottsdale. Nicknamed the West's most Western town, Old town Scottsdale is a popular destination for locals and visitors alike. The art and architecture recreate the ambiance of the old West. Which is why I chose a cowboy as my character! I blend right in.
Needless to say, Arizona is a desert and the weather makes it too hot to perform most of the year. December to April are the only months when I might have a chance to perform on weekends.
This is my Social experiment
I am an artist and this is my interpretation of interactive art.
Attempting to pose in public as a bronze statue is a challenge. The last thing I want is to appear like a person who thinks they look like a statue. I've seen 'living statues before and I wasn't fooled and I think I can't be fooled. In fact, I'll bet whoever is reading this doesn't think they could be fooled either.
That is what everyone in my videos said before meeting me.
I don't hand out business cards or promote CZcams while performing. It only invites conversation which I avoid for the sake of the next opportunity which I wouldn't want to spoil.
I first tried this just to see if it was even possible.
THIS IS NOT A 'PRANK" Scaring people is not my intention. I am not out to invade people's 'space', shout or yell 'boo!' at people who are minding their own business. (unless I am bored) I prefer to be called amazing, not #$#&!!. Many more people pass by oblivious, to my presence.
I just sit and mind my own business. I believe using this unique approach is why I am welcomed and supported by the city.
Have I ever upset anyone?
I have never had a negative reaction, well once.
I've never been intentionally hit, or been bitten by a dog. No heart attacks. Using my approach, I am not to blame if someone mistakes me for a statue. It's not my fault.
Besides, everyone is too busy laughing.
I make a one in a million moment possible and who the lucky person is totally at random.
Timing is not up to me most of the time. Most people touch me as they sit and realize something is up before the right time. Each person is different and I try to wait for the right time to reveal myself. Sometimes they get away before I make my move.
I am sorry for the quality of the video. Filming was an after thought and my lack of experience shows. Also, the way I concealed my camera interfered with the sound and picture. I have spent money on a new camera and it was problematic and ultimately stopped functioning.. I have used an old Canon that has never failed me. I can sacrifice the quality if it means confidence that I'm capturing the moment with a camera that is reliable.
My costume is just old clothes and A LOT of paint. Metallic Bronze paint. Nothing special. For make up I use black eyeliner for a base and metallic creme makeup. I create texture using a small screen.
It takes under an hour to be ready to go. Removing the makeup using soap and water is what takes hours.

I don't know about funniest street performer, but he's definitely, without a doubt, and it's not even a close contest, the greatest human statue ever, though his sense of comic timing is without peer.
What a great compliment. I only used that title because someone else made that comment... I am too humble to self promote myself... but now your comment takes the cake I would LOVE to use it in a title, may I? But it is probably too long... THANK YOU FOR WATCHING MY VIDEOS!
You could use an ellipsis and cut out the sub clauses so something like...." ...he's defintely ... the greatest human statue, ever!" and it'd true too. Or if you want to be even more humble still just say, "...his sense of comic timing is without peer,." You're an artist in th same tradition as the greats like Harold Lloyd and Buster Keaton so blow your own horn buddy!
While watching this, again, I noticed another first. The lady kept talking to this statue asking "Are you real?" Listen lady statues can't talk. But.... this is no ordinary statue. She found that out, and she even got down on her knees thanking the BRONZE COWBOY for a moment in her life that she will not soon forget. That is the thing about this guy, he brings people together, for the common goal of watching him take his talent and sharing laughter. The BRONZE COWBOY rules!!!!!!!

you should do like super subtle movements to the point where people arent sure if they saw you move. Just a 1 inch head tilt, enough to mess with them, and dont break the pose unless they touch you.
I have loads of videos where a little movement makes them wonder is I am a motion activated robot! LOL!

I have watched all his videos several times. The young lad at .16 seconds is one of the best reactions of all. Partway thru getting the crap scared out of him, he knew he got got and did not swear (out loud). He also had the class to give Mr. Stamets a high five.

I like the bush 'people' , however our styles rest at opposite ends of the spectrum. Where they leap out and scare people, I sit back and allow them to surprise themselves. I admire them. It would be so much easier to hide inside of something like a bush or a snowman and not wait for a victim to fall for an illusion. There are so many bush man on You Tube, hiding in pots and along sidewalks that I would be suspicious of even walking in the woods now! Thank you for watching my videos!
