ジャズピアニスト辛島文雄氏に師事し、2年連続で横濱JAZZプロムナードにて優秀賞を受賞するなど、着実にキャリアを重ねてきた飯塚由加。
そんな彼女の2ndアルバムが前作より4年の時を経て発売。
全曲オリジナル曲で、ベースの永見寿久、ドラムの林伸一郎との個性溢れるセッションも見どころ。
前作「Time Limit」はキャッチーでポップな曲が中心だったのに比べ、本作はブルースを中心としたシックな曲が多く収録されている。
アルバムのタイトル曲にもなっている「Before After」は軽快なスウィングナンバー。
その他にも時代を超えて愛されるジャズスタンダードのような曲調や、独創的なコード進行が神秘的な「Strange Dream」、3人の息が揃ったコーラスが楽しめる「Eighties（80年代）」まで、今回も見どころが詰まっている。
Yuka Iizuka studied under jazz pianist Fumio Karashima, and has steadily built up her career, including winning the Excellence Award at the Yokohama Jazz Promenade two years in a row.
Her second album is released four years after her last album.
All of the songs are originals, and the sessions with Hisahisa Nagami on bass and Shinichiro Hayashi on drums are highlights of the album.
Compared to her previous album "Time Limit," which was mainly catchy and pop songs, this album contains many chic songs, mainly blues.
Before After," which is also the title track of the album, is a light swing number.
Other highlights include a timeless jazz standard, the mysterious "Strange Dream," with its creative chord progression, and "Eighties," which features a breathtaking chorus by the three members.
