Fox cub gets head stuck in a wheel!

- With recent news stories about dogs getting stuck in tyres, we thought we would revisit one of our strangest rescues to date.
Out team was called out to a fox cub 'stuck in a fence', but when rescuer, Goff, arrived, it turned out to be something very different! Goff rushed the cub back to the centre, where Simon and vet nurse, Sara, had their work cut out getting the little fox free.
Amazingly, the fox was freed without the need to cut through the wheel and, after a brief recovery time, it could be returned to the wild!

We had a similar situation on the farm when I was 14 year's old. Anyway we had to feed him with a bottle for several months. He ended up thinking my mother was his mother. He lived 14 year's with us. He was extremely sweet and loved sleeping on the couch with me, but followed my mother around 24/7. He also loved to sleep in the kitchen window ledge, inside the house. Charlie had a good life. A country Veterinarian took good care of him. Although he was scared to go to the Veterinarian. He also would never potty in the house. He would let you know when he had to go. He did like baths.
14 year life with a wheel on his head would be tough.

Not only did they warn him verbally, after they put the wheel back, they also put a written sing next to it warning other foxes as well.

Толстый целофан не продолжаешь. По моему надо на голову собачки одеть пакет из тонкого целофана и дыру на носик оставить отрезанным - дышать псу . Сколько животных попадает в колеса - смотреть больно !

My heart goes out to all Animals and will be donating to Wildlife Aid and the great aid they perform.
The rescue team did a great job, and fast too! I thought it would take them a lot longer. I can't imagine how that fox got its head through there to begin with - I expected that they'd have to have to cut the metal to get the poor animal out. Congrats to all involved :)

Whether the fox's ears were folded or put on the back, soap or oil on it or not... they did a good job of doing things quickly and safely.
In the end, its an attempt to save that matters
If nothing helped, I would free him with a metallic saw, first doing circular cut around through bolt holes, freeing “collar” from the rest of wheel, then cutting and bending “collar”.

There are a lot of you asking why soap/oil etc wasn't tried beforehand, so we thought we'd answer in one message. We tried that! Neither worked as the swelling was too bad. We couldn't cut it because of risk to the fox, so this was the only option :)

Just a little uh reminder I guess is that little foxes or babies I meant are called kits and not cubs.
