      It’s actually written about the passing of his mother and how difficult it was for him and his father - hauntingly beautiful song. I would recommend checking out “Time We Made Time” & “The Wolves” by them, both excellent songs. Love the channel!

      Their cover of "Boots of Spanish Leather" or "Harvest Moon".
      I know you already did "Wildfire". That one is great as well, of course.
      Great video Burt, as always! And you stop in the middle as much as you like friend!
      We love what you have to say.

    "Like notes on the pages, she breathed life into all things" I just arrived back home from sitting with my wife at the adult family home. Her dementia rages and she's now been on hospice for 3 months. What a gut-punch of a song to listen to immediately after getting home. No words but "ouch."

    • @28happenstance
      @28happenstance Před 2 lety +1

      Cannot imagine what you are going through Mac. I have a 92 year old Grandmother that I watch who also has Dementia, though she is fairly lucid most days, but deals with the frustration of not being able to remember and not being able to process thoughts. It is heartbreaking to watch.
      I don't know if it helps any, but you are in my thoughts , and my heart goes out to you. Hang in there, the best you can.

      @@28happenstance Thank you, my friend. I appreciate your care. Yes, it is heartbreaking to watch, isn't it? Such a terrible thing to watch someone you love slowly disappear. Take care of yourself as well as your grandmother. It can take a lot of of the caregiver!

    I,was lucky enough to get to see them at The "Folks Festival " held in Lyons Colorado back in 2016 that Festival was Headlined by The Revivalist. And that is a beautiful place to visit, with a River running behind the stage not too far and it is accessible so one can go and get yourself a nice cool down. But yes Mandolin Orange had a great set and it was my 1st time hearing them as it was for many of The other performers. Keep up Your great work Burt. Perhaps you have met my Cousin Ray Herndon who has toured with Lyle Lovett and was part of McBride and The Ride.

    Burt I'm so happy to hear you diving in to them more. I can't describe what impact this band has had on my life. I could write all the things, but hyperbole doesn't come close to doing them justice. You are 100% correct when staying it's an honor to listen to them. It's exactly how I feel. Ive seen them live twice now and the only word I can describe them with is 'captivating'. You must go see them live. It's truly an experience. You can pick any song out of their discography and love it. Literally no misses over any of their albums. Andrew (and everyone else) is a true talent.

    A song I love for a funeral is Clint Black's Go Rest High on that Mountain, but Golden Embers is in another category altogether. Such a poetic and lovely tribute. I hadn't heard it in awhile and started crying like a baby during this review, remembering my brother who was taken suddenly almost 6 years ago now. It's definitely the kind of song that helps you in grief.

    I listen to this song, and a lot of Watchhouse (FKA Mandolin Orange) in general, multiple times a week.
    They are hands down my favorite partnered duo, and Martin and Tivel are a very close second.
    This is one of the best, if not the best song about death and loss that I have ever heard. I've listened to it well over a hundred times, and it still gives me chills and occasionally tears.
    As far as their name change...they could call themselves Poophouse or even Roachbutts, and I would still listen in absolute awe and wonder.

  • @Mando4Dan
    @Mando4Dan Před rokem +1

    There is so much about their music and performance that is original. The originality is crafted to make an immediate connection with the listener. Rare gift. In doesn't shout at or distract the listener, instead, it invites the listener to share an emotion in a way that brings them in to the moment the song was created. Few song writers have the emotional intelligence and few are willing to risk the vulnerability to do that with their music. To open up, and let the world come right into their creative space.

    Some people listen to instrumental music to help them study, but Mandolin Orange/WatchHouse got me through grad school. Absolutely top notch lyrically, instrumentally, and they are the top-est of notches vocally. If I’m feeling down or frazzled, MO/WH helps me settle their tunes brings calm to my soul. Great reaction brother

    boy oh boy that is just the most beautiful performance . The both of them in another world of ethereal harmony and feeling. I'd never heard of them, only stumbled upon them when I was watching a concert with The Punch Brothers and Sarah Jarosz , who are fantastic performers in their own right.
    You can't watch this without tears welling up in your eyes, and in some places where they hit unbelievable oneness, you are broken into pieces.
    Come to Vancouver , Please I'll pay your airfare.

    Thanks for these videos Burt. Your Wildfire video brought me to your page. Great job with Wolves and Golden Embers as well. ‘Bout time for another Watchhouse reaction, I think. Daylight, Echo, Cavalry, Old Ties & Companions, Waltz About Whiskey, Time We Made Time, and Take this Heart of Gold are all great tracks. There is so much great music from this band.
    Also, the Watchhouse self titled album is excellent. You can see Andrew Marlin’s song writing evolving after the birth of his daughter. Upside Down, New Star, and Belly of the Beast are standout tracks on an album that doesn’t have a miss IMO.
    Thanks again for being us great music.

    Yep the song is about his mother. Also on the lyrics: "If you could help me to share the trouble that you've got burning in you, then you can help me...", czcams.com/video/wqWBth_rLgw/video.html If you like Watchhouse, check that performance out. It is one of my favorite youtube videos of all time. Just the two of them (plus a guest on Wildfire) and so dang good. Also, here is another talented Americana music couple that I don't think gets enough love: czcams.com/video/SlUDXjqZ7O4/video.html

    From my perspective, they did it like the old golden rule simplistic I know it sounds a little over the top of that’s really what it is. They just change the sound of it by putting a capo up one full octave on 2 nd. Fret. I think the greatest part of the magic is the way the lyrics were dumb not in rhyme, but they left the pauses in which to me helps. Explain each phrase in sentence very clear, simplistic, straightforward. K I S S. Rule
