When I was young and this song was still on the radio I started drum lessons and when I walked into my teachers room he started playing the intro and it was one of the first things he taught me. 21 years later I'm still drumming.
And no one learned from it.. the fact is, we need to teach WHY 2A should be a legit course.. why teach kids to run & hide when you can teach kids how & why a “tool” should be used correctly? ..
My dad used to play this in the car when iwas a kid but I didn't like this music but all of the sudden last year I started hating pop music now I listen to this and I'm in a punk rock band.... Niiiccce 😂
InShane162 Thanks for the laugh bro. I was thinking the same thing when this song popped into my head. I have two different families of birds I feed. And they don't get along at all. I have to put the food in two separate piles or all hell breaks loose. Lol.
I never realized what this song was about until I saw this video lol... It's funny, because this song is talking about a serious issue, but they make it into a catchy song
I enjoy seeing people of different ages talk about how old they are and the music they like. It's interesting : ) I grew up in the 60's and 70's and didn't EVEN listen to or talk about music from a few decades before. I missed out on some good stuff. Love this song.
I'm 14, and I love this band sm!! My grandpa actually see them live when he was younger, and he showed me this band when I was 10. But I don't listen to this type of music to look "cool. " I do it cuz I love it.
... Holy shit, this song is talking about gang violence. You got to keep them seperated refers to keeping the bloods and the crips ("if their colors don't mix") away from each other, since it will only end badly. In addition, the song has a big emphasis on their use of minors to support their feud ("If you're under 18, you won't be doing any time.").
+Mikhail Fedyszyn Keeping separated refers to the frontman Dexter Holland's experience separating liquids in a chem lab. Fun fact, he actually has a doctorate in viral oncology.
+theimpaler98 I will provide some other evidence to disagree. First of all, there's the line "Your never-ending spree of death and violence and hate..." Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that chemicals go on murderous rampages. Furthermore, there's another line, "If they catch you slippin' then it's all over pal." "Catch you slippin'" is a gang term for being caught off-guard (and then usually filled with lead). Finally, there's this one, which is decisive evidence that this is indeed about gang violence: "The *gangs* stake out around campus locale..." I mean, the word "gangs" is only written right there in the song...
Cant believe this song is 21 years old now! God, i feel old!!!!! This song came out when i was pregnant with my oldest son. I used to sing ok Steven, u can come out nd play every time this song came on the radio. Now, he is about to b 21! Where did the time go????
+SilenceEnigma omg I was literally searching in all videos for non existant people like me who lives in the wrong generation and enjoy the best music in the world
....What really makes this song great to me is the "artillery crunch power chordz" high speed pace with the 4 part harmonies by voice put in at the end of each line, etc., the OFFSPRING have been on fire since they came out way long ago, and have always made great rock music!! My all time most favorite song is 1 alot like this (LOL) but it came out WAY BEFORE it, in 1972, I was already a 12yrs old METAL HEAD, by DEEP PURPLE, off of "Machine Head" album, that blew them up famous world wide, etc. (like 5 of the songs on it went Platinum, "Lazy", "Highway Star", etc.!!) , listen to "Highway Star" , it is absolutely BAD ASS , w/ HIGH speed pace and Ritchie Blackmore's Strat mastery (strange guy, 4 sure, but man could he play!!), Glen Hughes on Bass and the absolute God of keyboards, Jon Lord on organ, & back then, the band issued a riddle with the song on the album notes, asking the listener when their lead singer talks about "Loving his HIGHWAY STAR" to the end, is he talking about his beautiful woman, his bad ass hot rod car or..(It could probably be either or !)..??? LOL...It's never been made clear what the "right answer" is, even to this yr., some 43yrs later , I think that's pretty cool.....!!! It's 1 of their biggest hits and 1 of their most famous songs !! Chef David, Thursday, 1/14/16, 3:14p.m............///////////////////////////////////////
What if you told them that this song was a mainstream pop hit in its day and they are welcome to join the legions of dipshits that actually called this song an anthem? Still want to post about how you're 6 and get this song?
The next time there's a Scared Straight program, this should be played to prove a point on the aftermath of what happens if these people go down the wrong path.
Literally never looked at the lyrics until now & realized this song was super deep. I remember hearing it years ago & just dancing to it, thinking it was some kinda catchy beach song.
SOUNDS GOOD TO ME BEV SO YOU KNOW WHERE I AM NOW SO IT'S UP TO YOU TO MAKE SHIT RIGHT....COME AND GET ME OUT OF HERE FOR A WHILE AND I'LL MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GREAT TIME AND THEN SPEND THE NIGHT WITH ME TONIGHT.... SUP TO YOU BOO!! ME
Sad part is, we didn't know how good we had it back then (when it came to music.) And no... I'm not 12. I'll be 29 soon, so unlike many of the commenters I was actually alive when this music came out..
+crazyfvck I don't understand this elitism I see in comments for older music videos. I'm a huge Jimi Hendrix fan. I've met people who saw him in concert, and instead of being elitist ("What do YOU know"), they seemed genuinely excited that I was a fan. Then I go on CZcams and see people bragging about simply being alive when some band was big. I was finishing kindergarten when Smash came out, and I was too busy watching Power Rangers and Barney. I'm no more of an expert or a "true fan" than a teenager just discovering the Offspring today.
Andrew Carlisle raven was the best. Philly is 15, 20 minutes from my house. So I was lucky enough to go to 4 ECW shows when they were in there prime and the magic was still there. Me and my 2 friends, we were only in 8th grade, so probably 13 at the time. It was awesome. The crowd was just as nuts as you would think it would be from watching on tv. Nothing was better than taking part in a live chant of, "You Fucked up, You Fucked Up." Lol great times.
One thousandth comment *fist pump* haha This song always gets stuck in my head haha always the part "If you're under 18, you won't be doing any time..."
Pretty sure this song is about street gangs. The song specifically mentions gang members in "different colors", probably a reference to the Bloods and Crips gangs, from the 80s and 90s.
I like too much the most of Offspring songs! What do you guys think of my cover of this song playing the bass on acoustic guitar? czcams.com/video/mXYU6rRmi04/video.html
Man this song is like 16 years old and it still kicks ass beyond repair
28 now, I guess.
Fuck, Why you gotta make me feel old?

In all seriousness though, this music is good.
Lonely Potato I can understand it can exhaust people, but mocking it is as frustrating as that thrend.
One of the GREATEST songs to come out of the 90's!!!
And no one learned from it.. the fact is, we need to teach WHY 2A should be a legit course.. why teach kids to run & hide when you can teach kids how & why a “tool” should be used correctly? ..

Yes the offspring and green day are amazing
Sure. You gotta like the old Punk Rock! B-52's Devo and Blondie!
This song is great, I've always loved the offspring, ever since I was kid. Their lyrics, music, and everything about them are amazing!
90's ecw hardcore wrestler Raven brought me here, this song fit Raven's persona nicely
My dad used to play this in the car when iwas a kid but I didn't like this music but all of the sudden last year I started hating pop music now I listen to this and I'm in a punk rock band.... Niiiccce 😂
I'm listening to over and over again just to memorize the lyrics so I can sing it

I've loved this song and this band ever since I first heard it when I was six and now 12 years later I still love it!
I like that Egyptian type tune that comes ever so often.
This reminds me of that classic gang movie "The Warriors". Especially with the phrase "Come out and play".
