What I like hearing in this video is Anthony mentioning that he went back and watched some of their older stuff to make sure it wasn't just nostalgia fueling him on the idea of buying back Smosh with Ian. That this was really something he wanted to commit to together.
It's still one of their best over a decade later. And it's still hilarious to me that Ian did a better job in 2 months than Light did in 6 years.

Death Notes original manga one shot, which is like a one chapter pilot, did have a plot point where you could erase names that were written in the death note. People who got their names erased would come back to life. Kinda like a life note. The stakes in the main series wouldn’t be the same if the deaths weren’t permanent though so I’m glad they stuck with the death note itself

Also, for the normal people that don't know about the Death Note, the deaths seem natural at first. People suddenly coming back to life would make everything very suspicious really fast.

In the original pilot chapter there was a "death eraser" that brought back to life people who had their names written in the notebook, so you guys weren't too far off with the idea of the life note. Originally, I thought that the life note was actually a reference to the eraser

I will always remember this sketch, because me and my friends in elementary school reenacted it and wrote the list of people that Ian had wrote down in a notebook. After we did that we went to recess and when we came back, I got sent to the principals office for having a piece of paper with DEATH NOTE written at the top and MOM on the list. Im pretty sure the teacher had it out for me after that because she would confiscate my notebooks out of my desk randomly. Fun times.

i watched the first one recently, we can kinda keep them in our nostalgia. a lot of those jokes aged about as poorly as the meme stuff at the end and the jersey shore/snooki joke.

When I was a child (of the maturity and exposure of someone who realllllly shouldn’t have been on y’all’s channel at that age) I wrote a novelization of this episode, but I didn’t understand the concept of drugs, so when Peter Peter went ‘my parents were crack addicts’ I wrote ‘my parents worked at the cracker factory’ as if that explained everything. Jesus, talk about a weird start to my writing career

I wanna see a flashback of molester moon
The one example that Ian used for the jingle discussion (McDonald's I'm Loving It) is like one of the few cases where the jingle writer actually did go on to have a huge career in music. And that man was Pusha T.
I always liked how Anthony waits until Ian tries to kill him before writing Ian's name in the Death Note. It's like Anthony thought Ian could be saved still, but when he had proof Ian was trying to kill him, Anthony was justified in taking Ian's life.

i started watching smosh while i was learning english, and those skits were the first ever english media that i could understand and they made me laugh so hard. death note in real life has always been my favorite and i've held it close to my heart all throughout these years, i would re-watch it often every couple of years and i cried laughing every single time. this episode of flashback filled me with so much joy and nostalgia for my early teen years. anyways!!!! hope u guys at smosh are having a great week!!!!

It's always interesting to me to see who people group together when they talk about SG, specifically as the og group. To me, Flitz was always a later addition. Admittedly, he joined early, one of the first, and not long in, but, actively watching when it came out, the original crew is the crew that is now Ogsog. But some people add Wes or even Boze! Nothing against any of them, just fascinating to see how different people view things.

I watched Death Note and found this vid on YT and got me hooked to Smosh. And now so many years later still a huge fan of Smosh.

I have an idea for a branch off of flashback with smosh. It would be called “there’s Anthony!” And it would consist of Anthony watching videos that came out during his absent years. He could do it with Ian solely, or other cast members. There were quite a few iconic moments, like when ian played 2 truths 1 lie with his ex, that I’d love to see Anthony’s reaction to.

Really happy to see this as one of Anthony’s favourite, I also really enjoyed this original video even though I’ve never watched Death Note.
Ironically, the red Star Trek shirt on Peter Peter is from Star Trek: The Next Generation, wherein the captain and first officer both had the same red shirts and, obviously, did not die.
I felt so seen by Ian when he had to in that moment show Anthony the Baby Back Rib video because that’s me anytime I reference anything.
