There are some egrets on the property right behind our land and I can see them flying around. Boy, do I enjoy standing outside and looking at them. They are so beautiful.
I visited the St. Augustine Alligator Farm, where I assume this was shot, in April. I didn't see the green at the base of the beaks, but I did see the breeding plumage. I saw a snowy egret with pink at the base of its beak, rather than yellow, which I assume is the same kind of thing.
Its good to know we actually cared back then that the near extinction for this species stopped. Hope we can do it again today. If we could do it back then we could do it again today...
You're kidding right?? Only a handful cared back then thus the near extinction status! That is how the Audubon Society was formed because of this bird. Nowadays we have a ton of conservation organizations and a huge segment of the population that are active bird watchers and conservationists. In fact, in some cases we've gone to the other extreme where we put birds/animals needs over the needs of humans. So, there are plenty of people that care!
Hands down my favorite bird before barn swallows. Awesome capture

Wow you lucked out! Snowy egrets are kind of rare in Florida anymore.
@@ambriadanielsband4132 I see snowy egrets at Wakodahatchee Wetlands and Green Cay Wetlands.
Love egrets. They look so funny with their long necks, their necks are so long they are 95% neck. Also they make fart sounds.
Are those plumes only grown during mating season, or are they otherwise covered at different times of the year?
They way they said it, it sounds like they are only grown in mating season, but I'm not sure.
They loose the plumes outside the Breeding season, yes.
beautiful
I just saw and heard 4 of these on top of trees in East Irvine, Ca! made a tiktok
I think I hear in the background: ovenbird, northern cardinal, red-bellied woodpecker. Do I have any of those wrong? Any others?
You got them all right
Gavin 123 Thanks, still learning.

I want to know if the hunting stopped because people took a stand or if the birds simply got lucky through evasion.
People took a stand! That is how the Audubon Society came to pass
They now they look pretty Look at them showing off
Perfect
Is it both males and Females that grow these plumes or just males?
Just the males
