I think they don't want to because they don't want to commit the resources just for people to not buy it because it's not licensed. To be honest I would definitely take the game you're proposing. Just add in some really cool customization options. Create a football world that has it's own stars, maybe do some "fake" ads with those players on the 2K website or the page for the game and help people get acclimated to the players. That would make it interesting. The problem these smaller studios have had trying to make football games is they don't have the budgets to make their leagues come to life. You need to do the work with promotion and advertising to bring people to it.

Call me crazy, but a football based strategy card game is a really interesting concept. Too bad this is gacha shovelware. A Balatro for football could be amazing
Just watching this gameplay reminds me of a watered down version of NFL Showdown by Wizards of the Coast, which was *so* cool. A deeper version of this without would be legit to me.
I had the same impression. A casual NFL deck-builder game could be enjoyable, but this just looks like zero strategy my-numbers-are-bigger-than-your-numbers crap. I would compare it to the card game War, but (9:19) it looks like they unironically put War in as a game mode.
expectation vs reality, 2ks supercard games are good, but better when they have aa console counterpart, the nba supercard ties into myteam, and the wwe supercard has been around for over a decade, BUT the nhl one even despite a decent player base didnt live because even thouogh it's just a classic supercard game they couldnt tie it into a console version leaving replayability a littte iffy, it got taken down either due to liscensing or because of the replayability... i imagine the nfl one will have a similar life cycle to the nhl one, BUT to call a supercard game bad, because youre expectations were too high isnt really fair imo being that again some of them last a decade plus and are relatively good for mobile games
I know it is hard to ask. But please make a game about the UFL 2k while having the SAME gameplay as all-pro Football 2k and it is the only thing I am genuinely hoping for as a football fan. which is also one of the reason why I really want UFL to succeed. like I just missed 2K Football man..
I didn't even knew this came out today, thanks for making the video Softdrinktv. P.S.: I am VERY interested in seeing Angry Joe tackle this one, even if it's in an Angry Rant video or in his AJS News.
They are still making a console game. But the fact that they just released this with no other info (so everyone thinks this is THEE game), is not a good look for them. To me, it just confirms they have no confidence in the non-sim game they are making on top of all the silence for years. Plus they've supposedly had to hit the reset button on that game a few times...likely bcuz they are constantly being told what they can't put in the game by the NFL to keep it arcade.
what’s crazy about that is the fact that game sounds oddly similar to All Star QB which is just a swipe simulator you can’t actually play the game and you can’t even select your own teams or anything
yes but they can draw the line very close such as making it 7on7 rather than 11on11, and make it fairly realistic but i hope they come out with a console release atleast
I am a player of Wwe SuperCard so this doesn’t hurt my heart as many 2k5 people but hopefully they expand this cause if not dead on arrival just gives me hope at least some news on the console game releases soon
Why did it take so long to make it then? I'm completely confused on why it'd take years to make a game like this when there's stuff like this everywhere on the app store
I'm not really into watching sports and never have been outside of playing them in real life. But I swear this concept is exactly what I thought 'fantasy football' looked like and was like when it became more of a digital thing when I was younger...like a cpu driven "chance" simulator... Great video by the way. I wouldn't pay for it, but since its free itd could be a nice time waster lol
Remember when we all thought that 2K was going to make an NFL Blitz like game? At least a true arcade style game not one with micro transactions and card collecting BS. 😠
It’s THE PEOPLE that are making the game that counts! Everything from the designer, coder, artist and sound takes a team. The people at these companies are not the same people from years ago. It doesn’t matter if the “Exclusive license” will no longer exist. It takes a great team of people from the top to bottom to make a phenomenal game. If/when that time comes just remember that it’s the team of PEOPLE that made it happen and whatever company makes that happen better do their best to keep those people happy, well paid and retain them. Unfortunately, a lot of companies don’t do that. Love your videos! Keep up the great work.
Even though it's all "cutscenes" the pass at 6:26 looks pretty solid. Like the throwing mechanics look way better than Madden. I hope they're able to make something soon. I get that they're limited, but a card game isn't the best move to get people excited about 2k Football again.
While part of me is infuriated that there isn't a good football game with a community creations suite, and I will forever hate EA for the exclusive license nonsense, I am so thankful for emulation. I'm wondering if the mod community may pivot to rom hacks of games like NFL 2K5 and All Pro 2K7, assuming that it's doable with how popular PCSX2 is, and I expect 360 and PS3 emulation to take some big steps in the coming years. It's really sad that we can not rely on game developers to make games. Just like not having any faith in Hollywood to make a classic.
Hello, I know it's not relevant, but I wanted to know how you made the 2k game that you uploaded titled "ESPN NBA 2K5 was a Masterpiece" look smooth (I play it on my PS2). And another thing, do you know if there is any 2k1024 mod for PS2? Thank you, greetings from Argentina
Such a odd thing to throw out as your first game in so long. And for it being a turn based simulator and you can’t control most of the actions is also rather odd on your own. Definitely like those Supercard games (I’m amazed people remember it)
I assume this happened because 2K isn't allowed to make real football. I'm not sure the NFL is ever going to give up that license unless EA screws up REALLY badly. As much as people complain about Madden, it still sells.
heres the thing, this honestly feels like a base for something that can be improved on later. so the "gameplay" isnt user controlled, but imagine this as a single player franchise simulator. add in some auto generated draft classes, free agency periods, player development, and i think youve got a really solid mobile remake of the NFL Head Coach series.
If you strip away the mobile cards, open up the playbooks, and add in a sports management engine like the "Football Manager" series, that would be the ultimate football game that I'd like to play.
Madden should re-release some older game like 07’ with current rosters and commentary. I rather have those graphics but gameplay than what we have now.
At this point, where is Tecmo? Give them the NFL license so we can get a good arcade football game. Tecmo Superbowl and Tecmo Superbowl 3 were amazing games, so if 2K, can't maybe someone else can.
This seems like something I'd like as a mobile game tbh. It's kinda like those coach sim FMV games on the old Sega consoles which were fun for a few minutes
Yeah people are being too hard on this, it looks lime a fun time waster for mobile. Perhaps the most advanced you can make a football game on mobile is Retro Bowl. 2K isn't gonna give you All Pro 2k8 on mobile, what were people expecting? A proper console footy game will need at least 3 years dev time.
@@burningphoneixfirst off, they announced a 2k football game was being made 5 years ago, and secondly, where did this idea come from that players should lower their expectations, if a major studio says they’re making an arcade nfl game, and then they make rock paper scissors, it’s entirely justified to be let down
If they can’t make a sim game, why don’t they make their version of nfl street. Even a nfl tour with more to do and better customization would be better than this
Millions of people would pay hard earned money for simply this. Take the NFL 2K5/2K8 All pro football code and add onto it. Update the graphics and rosters. Add a bunch into franchise to make it fresh (Draft, Training camp, Extensive contract customization /options) Allow mod support. Boom easy money and automatically better then any madden game of the last 12 years.
There was a game like this we played when I was a kid in the 80s. It was a NFL board game with cards. It was fun when I was 12 and the best system was an Atari 2600.
Been waiting YEARS for this to come out ever since it was announced, I kept up to date with news, speculation etc. This feels like a nightmare. I genuinely feel like any moment I'm gonna wake up or this is gonna be a really late April fools joke
if you know 2k you know they make these mobile games, this isnt at all meant to be a revival of nfl 2k, they did the same thing with nhl supercard despite at that time being probably half a decade out of their last nhl game. if its anything like the last time they made a supercard game with a league ea has major rights to (nhl supercard) it will be comparable to wwe supercard (the original game like this going a decade strong) but WILL be taken down within 5 years. if you expected a simulation game like madden of course youre dissapointed, itd be like getting clash royale and expecting clash of clans, theyre not meant to be the same game nor are they advertised to be.
Proof that the decision makers at gaming companies don't actually play games. It baffles me that all through the years, we had PES as an alternative to fifa, but no alternative to madden.
You have to understand that 2k is on a probationary period with the NFL. The NFL took the price markdown of 2k5 to heart and now 2k is given bare bones to even create football games with their license. I think game content will improve if the relationship between 2k and the NFL continue to improve.
So true but with as much as madden SUCKS, hopefully we'll get this back as the NFL 2k franchise would have destroyed EA & MADDEN hence them buying up the licenses to have real team names etc.
Unfortunately i dont think another simulation game will ever come unless a developer/publisher makes a massive monetary offer during an option year or renegotiatian greater than what EA is willing to do, and very few could bring that money to the table. It would be so hard to pull away the core of Madden players as well i think, the ones spending tons of money on MUT bringing in all the money. Alternatively, maybe Goodell or some owners have a change of heart and push to end the exclusivity for us, but that seems unlikely as well. Probably would need lobbying from a company wanting to compete on top of a massive offer
This isn't what NFL2K is going to be, It's a side project like NBA Supercard (although that game kinda fell off), it's free with no ads and an NFL License there's nothing to complain about.
Yeah and theres some plays on this game were you either always get tackled at the line of scrimmage or pass plays were your qb intentionally throws the ball over the recevier thats right in front of them
5:50 the exact same thing happened with the chibi robo series when they made a 3d adventure game into a 2d platformer called chibi robo zip lash, no less a mediocre 2d platformer on the 3ds which had a ton of 2d platformers, the games poor sales made it clear that since people didn't want this, they surely didn't want any chibi robo games. And nintendo shut down the studio that makes those games
This is one of the saddest things I’ve ever seen in sports gaming. The way 2K NEVER stated nor even implied that this would be this type of game, let alone mobile, is CRAZY
So what your review of this game immediately brought to mind was an old Sci-fi Football board game called “Battleball”, hitch got me thinking that a Card/board game version of Football on your phone with some friends would be rad as hell in the right context. However, games like this, hyped up with the 2k label, and using micro transactions, feels like a recipe for disappointment without properly warning the fans before the game’s release

@owenfr1 nobody's meat riding, overall I'm pretty in different with 2k, I just played the supercard games growing up and have seen this cycle, I'm just reminding people not to get pissed over something that's happened twice now over a game style that's 10+ years old atp, when 1 the game isn't advertised as what's its being criticized for and 2 overall is a decent game if you give it a chance... tbh, overall has nothing to do with 2k and I'd do the same thing if say someone said all this about any games I like, especially if ppl were mad about really nothing
@@davis1744 but your response was pretty irrelevant lol. YOU enjoy this dumb ass card game and that’s fine. I’ve never heard of them and don’t care to know. I’m disappointed that they released this & you or nobody else is going to make me feel a way about MY feelings towards the game lol.
@Demoeroberson well I can't change your feelings but what I can tell you is, it's in your head, and it's not worth the brain power, the cycle happened before and it's happening again, it's up to you how disappointed you get over something that's happened before
(Edit) and reasonably could've been expected to happen again
If anyone knows what wwe SuperCard is than this is basically that
Honestly this may be a lil better since they used actual models to do the plays, wwe super card has the cards doing wrestling moves
@@zaynightwingthat’s why I like SuperCard more, this game looks so boring.
Sign me up for balatro for any sport really
I had the same impression. A casual NFL deck-builder game could be enjoyable, but this just looks like zero strategy my-numbers-are-bigger-than-your-numbers crap. I would compare it to the card game War, but (9:19) it looks like they unironically put War in as a game mode.
All good and fine but yk people waited 20 whole years for this right? 💀
i don’t think we can have a 2k football game with the NFL involved . ITS JUST NOT GOING TO WORK
Didn’t even know that this was a game💀
“Gives you blue balls” AAYYOOOOOOOOO 😂
So all the wait for a new NFL 2k…
All for a free to play mobile game where you don’t even control the players…
expectation vs reality, 2ks supercard games are good, but better when they have aa console counterpart, the nba supercard ties into myteam, and the wwe supercard has been around for over a decade, BUT the nhl one even despite a decent player base didnt live because even thouogh it's just a classic supercard game they couldnt tie it into a console version leaving replayability a littte iffy, it got taken down either due to liscensing or because of the replayability...
i imagine the nfl one will have a similar life cycle to the nhl one, BUT to call a supercard game bad, because youre expectations were too high isnt really fair imo being that again some of them last a decade plus and are relatively good for mobile games
@@davis1744stop dick eating & defending this garbage
So, this is just Cutscene: The Game?
Yep
@@SOFTDRINKTV Lmao
that’s just half of modern games
I know it is hard to ask. But please make a game about the UFL 2k while having the SAME gameplay as all-pro Football 2k and it is the only thing I am genuinely hoping for as a football fan. which is also one of the reason why I really want UFL to succeed. like I just missed 2K Football man..
Usually these types of returns turn out bad. I didn't even know this existed until you uploaded
I waited for 2 Decades.......2 DECADES MAN!!!!!
💀
I didn't even knew this came out today, thanks for making the video Softdrinktv.
P.S.: I am VERY interested in seeing Angry Joe tackle this one, even if it's in an Angry Rant video or in his AJS News.
Oh to see his reaction when he sees the "gameplay" 😂
They are still making a console game. But the fact that they just released this with no other info (so everyone thinks this is THEE game), is not a good look for them.
To me, it just confirms they have no confidence in the non-sim game they are making on top of all the silence for years. Plus they've supposedly had to hit the reset button on that game a few times...likely bcuz they are constantly being told what they can't put in the game by the NFL to keep it arcade.
Screen tapping. What is this 2008 😂
what’s crazy about that is the fact that game sounds oddly similar to All Star QB which is just a swipe simulator you can’t actually play the game and you can’t even select your own teams or anything
You got to remember 2k can’t make a simulation football game that was part of the deal with the NFL. But I wish they made a better effort then this
Not even EA makes simulation games.
yes but they can draw the line very close such as making it 7on7 rather than 11on11, and make it fairly realistic but i hope they come out with a console release atleast
So they made a simulation non game lol. Honestly it's kinda like the coach sims with videos in the 90s so I kinda like it
They can rip off EA since it’s not simulation either
It depends on what the contract defines simulator football
I am a player of Wwe SuperCard so this doesn’t hurt my heart as many 2k5 people but hopefully they expand this cause if not dead on arrival just gives me hope at least some news on the console game releases soon
Fr I used to play wwe supercard back in the day and loved it I honestly think this is a solid game if it doesn’t die
Why did it take so long to make it then? I'm completely confused on why it'd take years to make a game like this when there's stuff like this everywhere on the app store
lmao this reminds me of that one NFL Facebook game a long long time ago. I think around 2009ish, especially the rock/paper/scissor gameplay
I'm not really into watching sports and never have been outside of playing them in real life. But I swear this concept is exactly what I thought 'fantasy football' looked like and was like when it became more of a digital thing when I was younger...like a cpu driven "chance" simulator... Great video by the way. I wouldn't pay for it, but since its free itd could be a nice time waster lol
elite playmakers like daniel jones and cread humphrey fucking killed me lmao
Damn..... 2k. We miss the old 2k 🫤
This is just sad. I wasn’t expecting 2K’s NFL game to be the instant “Death of Madden” but this does literally nothing to put any pressure on EA 🤦🏽♂️
The guys who made the old NFL2Ks sadly probably aren’t even there anymore 😅 So we shouldn’t expect much even when a real game does come out
Such a odd thing to throw out as your first game in so long.
And for it being a turn based simulator and you can’t control most of the actions is also rather odd on your own.
Definitely like those Supercard games (I’m amazed people remember it)
This is the only way 2K could make a simulation football game without making a simulation football game
To be fair…I do remember them sayings it’s a couple games in development
Two uploads in a week! He’s cooking 🧑🍳 😬
I assume this happened because 2K isn't allowed to make real football. I'm not sure the NFL is ever going to give up that license unless EA screws up REALLY badly. As much as people complain about Madden, it still sells.
Waited all this time for this
This has the same energy as Patchy the Pirate saying "That's it? That's the lost episode?!"
My single worst fear and honestly this is worst than I thought
heres the thing, this honestly feels like a base for something that can be improved on later.
so the "gameplay" isnt user controlled, but imagine this as a single player franchise simulator.
add in some auto generated draft classes, free agency periods, player development, and i think youve got a really solid mobile remake of the NFL Head Coach series.
If you strip away the mobile cards, open up the playbooks, and add in a sports management engine like the "Football Manager" series, that would be the ultimate football game that I'd like to play.
Yooo sup sdtv love your content man just wanted to say what’s up…. Dude nothing mobile will ever touch retro bowl
Madden should re-release some older game like 07’ with current rosters and commentary. I rather have those graphics but gameplay than what we have now.
Be cool if you could play it like Retro Bowl at least
At this point, where is Tecmo? Give them the NFL license so we can get a good arcade football game. Tecmo Superbowl and Tecmo Superbowl 3 were amazing games, so if 2K, can't maybe someone else can.
Retro Bowl
Man I was hype as fuck for this. In 8th grade. I am a junior in high school now, had no idea this was even dropping.
I saw the tweet announcing this and I thought “THIS is what they made a big deal about??”
WACK! Back to playing 2k5 for another year. To say I'm disappointment would be a amazing understatement.
@@burningphoneixfirst off, they announced a 2k football game was being made 5 years ago, and secondly, where did this idea come from that players should lower their expectations, if a major studio says they’re making an arcade nfl game, and then they make rock paper scissors, it’s entirely justified to be let down
this is legit the nfl version of wwe batlle cards lol
If they can’t make a sim game, why don’t they make their version of nfl street. Even a nfl tour with more to do and better customization would be better than this
We would mod it up like crazy
Millions of people would pay hard earned money for simply this.
Take the NFL 2K5/2K8 All pro football code and add onto it.
Update the graphics and rosters.
Add a bunch into franchise to make it fresh (Draft, Training camp, Extensive contract customization /options)
Allow mod support.
Boom easy money and automatically better then any madden game of the last 12 years.
You should make a retrospective video of NBA Street Vol 3 it’s a all time classic!
There was a game like this we played when I was a kid in the 80s. It was a NFL board game with cards. It was fun when I was 12 and the best system was an Atari 2600.
It’s official gaming is DEAD 😂

@@enterprisedavidcain facts I tried to hold onto it

You realize this isn’t the console game right
4 years for a game that looks like it was made in a week
Proof that the decision makers at gaming companies don't actually play games. It baffles me that all through the years, we had PES as an alternative to fifa, but no alternative to madden.
So, this is basically the card game "War", but with football players instead of playing card face values...
You should do a NBA Live 16 I wonder what’s your take on that and more WWE games
You have to understand that 2k is on a probationary period with the NFL. The NFL took the price markdown of 2k5 to heart and now 2k is given bare bones to even create football games with their license. I think game content will improve if the relationship between 2k and the NFL continue to improve.
What
They could’ve done anything other than simulation football and chose a rock paper scissors football game instead of something like nfl blitz
So true but with as much as madden SUCKS, hopefully we'll get this back as the NFL 2k franchise would have destroyed EA & MADDEN hence them buying up the licenses to have real team names etc.
They just keep twisting the knife in the football gaming community 😅
In the world of UX this would be inbetween a LO-FI and Hi-Fi prototype. IM HOPING 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Man…. This is real pain. So much for any real 2k football game ever again
so, it's a football manager game, without the manager aspect?
I mean can you trade or train your players? Can you manage the team, the facilities?
Unfortunately i dont think another simulation game will ever come unless a developer/publisher makes a massive monetary offer during an option year or renegotiatian greater than what EA is willing to do, and very few could bring that money to the table. It would be so hard to pull away the core of Madden players as well i think, the ones spending tons of money on MUT bringing in all the money. Alternatively, maybe Goodell or some owners have a change of heart and push to end the exclusivity for us, but that seems unlikely as well. Probably would need lobbying from a company wanting to compete on top of a massive offer
The gameplay for this game is 1 to 1 "Rival Stars" on the app store it's the exact same model the exact same premise and the exact same monotony
Sounds dope if you like sim games
This isn't what NFL2K is going to be, It's a side project like NBA Supercard (although that game kinda fell off), it's free with no ads and an NFL License there's nothing to complain about.
oh hey, it's the NFL supercard game that NOBODY ASKED FOR
Yeah and theres some plays on this game were you either always get tackled at the line of scrimmage or pass plays were your qb intentionally throws the ball over the recevier thats right in front of them
Forget the damn NFL license and just create an American football game with generic/customizeable teams, franchise and APF like gameplay.
Or wildcard football give us complete control over the rosters and team colors better than this trash and madden
This just like the Diablo immortals reveal 😂
So what your review of this game immediately brought to mind was an old Sci-fi Football board game called “Battleball”, hitch got me thinking that a Card/board game version of Football on your phone with some friends would be rad as hell in the right context. However, games like this, hyped up with the 2k label, and using micro transactions, feels like a recipe for disappointment without properly warning the fans before the game’s release
Hold up so 2K can some how get the NFL License for a mobile game but they aren't making a new console version? WHY NOT!!!!???
You had one job 2k!!!
