In this video, we are counting down the top 10 facts about the Irish Setter that you might not know.
    A Quick Overview:
    Group: Sporting Dogs
    Weight: 60 to 70 pounds
Height: 2 feet, 1 inch to 2 feet, 3 inches tall at the shoulder
    Life Expectancy: 11-15 years
Originally developed as a bird dog, the Irish Setter retains the drive and energy of his forefathers. There's nothing he enjoys more than doing new things and going to new places, especially if they involve birds. Although he's not seen as much in the field as some other sporting breeds, his hunting instinct is still strong. Once he's trained on birds, he never needs a refresher course.
While the Irish Setter loves everyone, he's not suited to every home. He's brimming with energy and requires a minimum of an hour of exercise daily. A large fenced yard or acreage where he can run is important, as is an active family who will include him in everything they do. He can develop separation anxiety or become destructive if he's left to his own devices.
Irish Setters come in two types: show and field dogs. Irish Setter show dogs are heavier and larger than field dogs, with a heavier, thicker coat. Both types meet the breed standard - a written description of how a breed should look and act. Regardless of size and coat, the Irish Setter should maintain his natural ability to be a gundog.
Beyond their talents in the field, Irish Setters excel at many other activities, including obedience, rally, tracking, and agility competition. With their wonderful temperaments, they make terrific therapy dogs and can be found visiting hospices, retirement homes, and children's hospitals, spreading the gift of their warmth, humor, and love.
Irish Setters are known for their intelligence, but they're also mischievous and independent. Training requires much patience and consistency. This breed is slow to mature, so you'll have a full-grown dog with puppylike enthusiasm and activity levels for several years. Not surprisingly, they're great playmates for active older children, but they can be overwhelming for toddlers, who may find themselves bowled over by this rascally redhead.
The Irish Setter has been loved by movie stars, presidents, and ordinary people who admire him for his joyful spirit. He's a wonderful companion who will keep you fit and make you laugh throughout your life.

I have a 9 year old Irish Setter and he’s an absolute angel. He’s 27” tall and 95lbs. No matter how wild and crazy he was as a puppy, he’s never been aggressive with my kids (who were 2 and 4 when we got him as a puppy). Extremely docile and patient, even when he was an energetic monster before we trained him. I will always have at least one of these dogs in my home. Would never want to live without one, they are the best and have ruined me for any other type of pet. And, my boy has never had any health problems so it shows if you get a professional and responsible breeder, a purebred dog can be incredibly healthy.

I agree. Irish setters were my dream dog, and a couple of months ago I was able to find a responsibly bred, affordable liter of irish setters. Best dog I've ever had. Received potty training quicker than any dog I've ever had. Easiest to train. Even my golden, who was pretty sweet, couldn't measure up to the intelligence of the Irish Setter. I've had Goldens, vizslas, beagles, and all of them were sweet (especially my vizsla, I miss him every day) but intelligence, trainability, house breaking success, cannot measure up to my Irish Setter. I'm saddened by the loss of my Vizsla, but in a way, it helped me discover the beauty, intelligence, and sweetness of Irish Setter. Truly the most beautiful breed ever.

Ive had three wonderful and beautiful Irish Setter males. Spanning nearly 30 years of my lifetime. They are definitely a handful as pups but the payoff is one of the most loyal, loving and gentle companions one could ask for. I lost my last one five months back to cancer. There is not a day goes by I'm not thinking of and missing him. I will get another someday as I can't imagine not having an Irish Setter in our lives.

Irish ☘️ setter dogs 🐕 are light to dark brown colour. Aren’t they sweet? Perhaps 🤔 Irish ☘️ setter dogs 🐕 come from Ireland 🇮🇪. In the past, I’ve met Irish ☘️ setter dogs 🐕. There is a story called Peter and Jane has an Irish ☘️ setter dog 🐶 named Pat and he’s a boy 👦. Irish ☘️ setter dogs 🐕 are very large. Yes 🙌, I’ve seen Irish ☘️ setter dogs 🐶 in the Ilfracombe area. When Irish ☘️ setter dogs 🐕 become very frail and old, they suffer and have to be taken to the vets to be put to sleep 🛌 😴 💤 such as death 💀 ☠️ because it’s cruel to keep them alive while they suffer and I agree ☝️ with that. 👍
