Since 1991, FIFA has awarded the Football Player of the Year award, recognizing the exceptional performance of male and female players in the sport. The award, originally called "FIFA Best Player of the Year", has undergone some changes over the years. In 2009, he joined France Football magazine's Ballon d'Or, creating the "FIFA Ballon d'Or". In 2016, the awards separated again, with FIFA resuming the name "The Best FIFA Men's Player".
The award is considered one of the most prestigious in world football, and its list of winners includes legends such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldo Fenômeno, Zinedine Zidane and Marta. The winner is chosen by a global vote that includes national team captains, coaches, journalists and fans.
The 2023 "The Best FIFA Men's Player" award went to Lionel Messi, who won the title for the eighth time in his career.
