  • This tutorial about the reverse pendulum serve, maybe one of the hardest table tennis serves to practice, is all you need to finally get over the hump. Master this service with these simple steps, but be wary of all the wrong information out there (as you'll see in this video)!

    I know 3 steps sound like not so much, but I believe that if you really take your time with them, then 3 steps are all you'll need!

    Some suggestions for serve videos:
    1. Use balls with extra marks to see the spin
    2. Perhaps postpone disguising to the next step. Like for me there is no point to disguise as I still struggle to add any significant backspin with reverse serve. Side or side-top is much easier to do. Thank you.

    Thanks for another great video. Could you also talk a bit more on 3rd ball attacks on the future serve videos so we have a complete picture.

    THIS!!! This is what I've needed, havent even watched the video yet but I've seen how you do you reverse pendulum and have been hoping for you to release a video on how to do it! This serve is the one I have been struggling to figure out for literally over a year, and still am not even able to get it over the net consistantly enough to use it in game. Teally hope this can help me finally figure this out cause I had given up hope and started using a weird tomohawk shovel serve instead.

    Still struggling with underspin. Usually it's side top or side with just a bit of back

    I once watched Timo Boll and Fan serve and noticed they both put extreme side spin on their reverse pendulum serves whether underspin or topspin. I noticed it's all in their wrists.

      Yes, don't underestimate the importance of wrist acceleration when serving!

  • @rileywoo

    Insightful video especially the 3rd common problem. One thing I wasn't sure I understood was how loose should one's wrist be when doing the action (especially when making the contact). Is it correct to keep it pretty loose but tighten right when you make contact? I feel sometimes I get more spin if I just keep it loose the whole way (but still have a stopping point as you mentioned).
    Also one feedback, not sure if others feel the same way, but the transition noises (eg 2:24) were a little annoying for me, it actually sounded like they came from somewhere in my room and I had to pause the video to double-check.

      Oh, I added those sound effects to just one-up the editing a little. I'll ask in a poll if it's a bother for other people as well.

    • @OlavKTTT
      @OlavKTTT  Před 4 měsíci +1

      + In my experience, you want some extra tension in your hand at the point of contact, but that shouldn't limit your ability to accelerate with your wrist.

      Got it, thanks for the tips! Sorry one more question, do you have any specific tips on making it a long serve besides aiming for the baseline? Mine isn't going far enough usually (nor fast enough).

      It takes time, that's all I can really say... it's normal because it's quite an unnatural movement, but you just have to stick to it and not be disappointed when the results aren't showing yet.
