      They aren't.. which is the point of what he is saying. He was a statesman in the eyes of some people and a terrorist in the eyes of others so how will you remember him? Are you one of the people who thinks he's a statesman or are you one of the people who thinks he's a terrorist? (In reality it's all in how you view the person. He can be/likely is both).

      Hitchens is above average? Wow! He is one of the greatest minds in recent history. He is incredible well read, writes many books and is a master debater. I have never seen Hitchens lose a debate ever! My point...I think you greatly underestimate his intelligence.

      Tucker used to be a somewhat normal broadcaster. He used to work for CNN and I think NBC. His current Schtick is just an act. He hates Trump, but his people have made him wealthy. I'm not sure what makes him worse, that if he was doing it because he really believes it, or the fact that he has an audience he doesn't want to lose.@@imamoronand9199

    Notice how the greatest criticism of Tucker amounts to that of his bow-tie. Hitchens was very complimentary of Tucker and said he would be one of the great conservative polemicists of the future. Hitchens predicted well.
    Love both of these guys simply for the rage they created, and still do, in their opponents.

      I agree. I am a longtime fan of Tucker, since the beginning of his TV career 20 years ago. I was always impressed with Tucker’s intelligence and the fact that he is an independent thinker. And I like his unique style. I think people are very juvenile to make fun of Tucker for wearing a bow tie.

      Except for the Iraq war. Chomsky was right. He was not a complete atheist. He espoused the state religion. He was unmatched in the role of dissenter on many topics, but the myopia and deference toward western civilization and its intentions in Iraq was a blemish. Otherwise apart from being a bit smug and friendly with people like Tony Blair he's one of my greatest influences.

      I never said Tucker wasn't a bright guy. He got the best education his ultra wealthy family could afford. And he's on his good behavior here because he's being paid to be a respectable interviewer.
      It's when he lies, spin doctors and demagogues that you realize, "Oh, he's an aspiring fascist." Or maybe he was just delivering what Fox wanted him to deliver and can continue to monetize it without Fox. But that's hardly a person we should respect, right?

The frontrunner in the current presidential race literally tried a violent coup after losing the last election. Most republicans seem to have given up on democracy in favor of something like Russian-style right-wing authoritarian government. Carlson is producing Putinist propaganda about how groceries are supposedly more affordable for Russians than Americans (utterly ridiculous) enough so that it should make you radicalize and give up civil civil liberties.     I came to see Hitch and Tucker duke it out as has been the case in so many Hitch video debates/interviews or Tucker interviews in his latest Fox incarnation. What a surprise to see Tucker Carlson in a thoughtful and sober exchange. Proof (at least in my mind) that the 2017 talking heads (did that give my age away?) are as characters in a play.

You mean 'Françafrique', which was a period of collaboration and post-colonialism which saw France pulling the strings of a big part of Africa for decades. He denounced these acts unless the USA did it, in which case he was an ardent supporter, exemplified by his unwavering support for the Iraq war

    I can't stand this generation. Why are y'all such haters. Tucker just had the highest rated cable news show in history for a quarter (2020 Q2). Hitchens is one of my favorites, i own multiples of his books, but hell Tucker is great too.       I don’t understand all of the hate directed towards Tucker and the stupid attacks on him. I’ve been a fan of his for 20 years. Tucker is very intelligent and knowledgeable, and an excellent writer. Christopher Hitchens thought so, and he should know. Tucker is also a very independent thinker and I really admire him for that.

    Man, that clip in the beginning really ticked me off. The "peace process?" The only reason there's any conflict to begin with is because of what some absurd, manmade "holy" books which were written over 1,000 years ago say! Large numbers of people involved in the Israel-Palestine conflict die and suffer because of some tribal nonsense that dates back to a period of time where complex human civilizations were a relatively new thing!       Hitchens, throughout his career, was an advocate for the Palestinians.
      I'm sure that, like Tucker, you weren't paying attention at all to what Hitchens was saying.

      It's about the Palestinian wanting Israel out of the picture and Israel realizing that that they have no partner.

    Hitchens never said Rwanda was a French colony. France invaded the country in 1994 to protect the genocidal Hutu government on the basis that it was a legitimate government. They did this opposing not just the Tustis but the Belgian peacekeepers, who abandoned the country. Ultimately it was the Ugandan army who liberated the country...backed by the US and England. The French have a long history of harboring fascism...

    Hitchens did not say it was a French colony. Rwanda hasn't been a colony since 1959. The Belgians took over from the Germans in 1916 and later instituted Hutu and Tutsi ID cards which contributed to the genocide which immediately followed the revolution of 1959 and the 1994 genocide. The French invaded in 1994 to "defend" the Hutu government in 1994. The Belgian peacekeepers abandoned the country when they heard the French arrived.

    Well i loved mr hitchens and his reasons for the war in iraq are admirable, i tend to understand his views but I've always disagreed with most of what he said with the exception of religion in general, and i have to agree maybe you are right i totally disagree that we take our children and tax money to fight a war in the name of christianity against islam, its completely wrong. i agree with him that we need to fight the theocratic fascists, but not with my children and OUR theocratic fascism!

      What are you talking about, Tuck had Hitch on the rails the whole time. With Hitch about to lead into an apology for palestinian war crimes, Tuck fired back with 'by killing Olympic athletes?' to which Hitch the bitch had no response. Likewise Hitch avoided the question of the double standard against Israel, Hitch just fired off some things he knows about France but side stepped the moral question Tucker quite plainly put to him.
      Hitch was owned and totally outclassed. I think you can see Hitch even looking nervous lol

      Tucker is highly intelligent, as is Hitchins obviously. Seems more like an interview than a debate but Hitchins (whom I love) seemed to be veering towards "terrorism apologist" which I know does not represent his actual views. He was possibly defending Palestine because the situation there is primarily England's fault and he believes that the oppressed need to be defended. You'll see that as he got older he leaned toward the Israelis side more than the Palestinians
