USA: WASHINGTON: MILLENNIUM CELEBRATIONS MIDNIGHT (12)

The nation's capital will mark the occasion as "America's Millennium". President Clinton will be in attendance along The Mall as midnight strikes.
Shortly before midnight, the President will address the nation from Lincoln Memorial for approximately five minutes. Images of other other historical settings such as the Washington Monument, the White House and the Smithsonian Institute will also feature.
At midnight, there will be a firework display along the Mall and a spectacular high-tech sound and light display between the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument to salute the new millennium.
A digital time capsule has been installed at the Smithsonian Institute where visitors will be able to record their thoughts for future generations to consider. Hillary Clinton will unveil the National Time Capsule earlier in the day at a ceremony for members of Congress, celebrated creators, innovators and leaders.
The evening's celebrations will focus heavily on the United States achievements since it came into existence 223 years ago.
