came here to say the exact same thing - as a horse girl and leather worker, a saddlery would've been my first stop. if you take your harness to a good saddle maker (which there should be aplenty in both LA and BC), they can probably make you 'copies' in any style or colour you might like. and with leather work, you could even get some cool tactile designs on it, as tooling is something most western saddlers are gonna be really good at.

Molly I'm 6'5" and not only can I attest that planes are getting smaller, but prices for the extra leg room seats are also going up in price! My price usually doubles as soon as I select the extra leg room.

For a harness try a saddle maker they can do all kinds of bling,floral details etc... also for a pink harness saddle makers can dye the leather or you can also look into biothane it is like leather but it has a soft "jacket" over it that is so easy to clean. It can get wet and muddy and you just rinse it off with water... I have seen biothane dog collars,leashes etc... just show them a photo of your mira harness where it attaches the handle and they could do something similar. 😊
Late to the party so you likely won't see this, Molly, but my guide dog wears a custom harness from Yupcollar. We're currently using their semi-rigid handle, which works for us, BUT they DO have a rigid, metal handle! I've actually had other guide dog handlers here in Sweden (mine is rather unique in being owner trained) ask me about it, because the harnesses here are all standard and there are only three handle lengths, whereas Yup provides handle lenghts in 1 inch increments!
Their newer makes and paints arent as good quality and mainly use a y front last i checked. I love my second hand one i got from them made a decade ago though 😅😅😅

@aaronwolf1045 ease of putting it on and feedback on the handle is different. My dog works in both straight front, y front leather guide harness as well as a BLD and a regular light harness/cape combo, and depending on the day: my dog can do better in one verus the other in guide work as well as can effect my nonverbal communications with her. So i think it depends on the handlers preferences. Otherwise: some ortho vets prefer one over the other for safety of the dog. I dont do true guide most days and opt for the straight front cause its easier to put on. I only mentioned it cause Molly's current harness and all her previous harnesses are straight front

I used a straight front for a year and a half, but noticed my boy had tension in his shoulders at the end of a long work-day. The feedback is different, for sure, but I see it as worth it to feel my dog move more freely.

A simple fabric tube, split lengthwise & sealed with a strip of velcro could be wrapped around the back & chest straps of the harness to add some bling. Any custom seamstress could make an entire wardrobe for Elton of various fun fabrics so he can change his outfits as often as you like.

Hilason has guide harnesses with the same mechanism, I don’t think they do custom handle lengths but they’re not expensive so it might be worth getting one and trying edit: Bridgeport K9 equipment also has harnesses with more customization in size and they sell rigid handles individually that you could pair with a compatible harness or one that’s been modified
I’d look into Bridgeport or yup collars for custom leather guide harnesses! They make many different styles both guide and non, and specialize in working with leather for service harnesses.

Hey! Just a tip for finding cats as visually impaired: my friend lives in a big house and she was always a bit anxious to know where a cat was (if he had gotten out through an open window etc etc) so her cat has one of those cat trackers (she uses tractive but I'm sure there are others) in his collar and it's really light so he got used to it quite quickly!
I’m not blind, but my cat doesn’t like a collar much either and I was able to find just a simple sturdy harness for her. She can’t get out of it and something I noticed as a byproduct was that the metal rings on either side of the buckle actually tend to clack against each other and create noice when she’s walking through the house
When booking your flights let them know you have a service dog, some will have bulkhead or the next step up from economy saved for people with service dogs or disabilities and will not charge an up charge. 1st class will always be full price
As a cat owner, bells goes very well in toys, "preys" to hunt, or thigs like that, however it can become very strassfull in colars for the cats, because is metal constant anoying sound in the ear, their ears gets very irritated. I know that for you has a porpouse.

Psychic characters are often blind in scifi and I feel like Molly could play a psychic character well, she's very intuitive.

My cat Blue is the same way with his bell collar. He has pulled it off a few times and sometimes I've found it lying on the living room floor or in the basement. Cats can be so stubborn.
I bought my harness off of Amazon, but for a custom one I would talk to someone who makes harnesses for dogs that have no back legs or or front legs or something. That way you can get a custom one.
It surprises me, giving you're missing a sense, that you get sensory overload. That's interesting. I know tiredness would be a factor because of having to constantly concentrate on navigating a room / house / city etc as well as memorizing where you've put everything.
I mean, Gallop was huge, even though he was 'skinnier' than Elton John and short haired, his height and barroll chest made him probably bigger than Elton John, so going from Gallop to Elton John and feeling everything is tighter really shows how smaller/packed planes are getting!
Any decent leatherworker (especially a tack/saddle maker) should be able to recreate a harness if you can bring them an old one. Might need to buy the handles from wherever you normally get them. But the actual harness itself shouldn't be terribly hard, especially if you happen to have a harness from one of your previous dogs that you can ship to them so they can study it. And as a bonus, if you go for tooled/carved leather, the design is very tactile.
American, United, and Delta all require a service animal to fit in your footwell. They won't even sell you two or three adjoining seats to allow the dog to spread across a larger piece of floor. And once a dog reaches a certain height, they require a transport container that has so much extra room in it, that they only will load it if the airports have an AIR CARGO facility. Sounds like you've found some very accomodating airlines.

I would look into Bridgeport K9 Equipment. They sell guide dog harnesses and handles that you can select a specific length. They are made from leather and you can always purchase one in white and then dye the leather pink, or any color you would like

For Lavender and other cats: Could she wear a skinny-strapped harness with a bell? Maybe she could get out of that too, but it might be worth a try. I have a little harness like that for my chihuahua and she likes it a lot better than collars.
As a cat mom, I hate the break away collars. I use a small dog collar that buckles, and my cat Lily has her name tags and a bell, but that's also because she's very vocal.
Is your cat 100% indoor without a possibility of escaping outside? Bells are like a death sentence if your cat ends up outside because they can’t fend for themselves from predators or to feed themselves. Breakaway collars keep them from being accidentally strangled. This may truly not ever be a factor for you but for anyone reading who it may be just throwing it out there!

Mobility harnesses are so expensive. I am not blind but have a service dog for counter balance and his harness is custom and I paid 600!

My cat Blue is the same way with his bell collar. He has pulled it off a few times and sometimes I've found it lying on the living room floor or in the basement. Cats can be so stubborn.
I bought my harness off of Amazon, but for a custom one I would talk to someone who makes harnesses for dogs that have no back legs or or front legs or something. That way you can get a custom one.

Any decent leatherworker (especially a tack/saddle maker) should be able to recreate a harness if you can bring them an old one. Might need to buy the handles from wherever you normally get them. But the actual harness itself shouldn't be terribly hard, especially if you happen to have a harness from one of your previous dogs that you can ship to them so they can study it.
And as a bonus, if you go for tooled/carved leather, the design is very tactile.

American, United, and Delta all require a service animal to fit in your footwell. They won't even sell you two or three adjoining seats to allow the dog to spread across a larger piece of floor.
And once a dog reaches a certain height, they require a transport container that has so much extra room in it, that they only will load it if the airports have an AIR CARGO facility.

I would look into Bridgeport K9 Equipment. They sell guide dog harnesses and handles that you can select a specific length. They are made from leather and you can always purchase one in white and then dye the leather pink, or any color you would like

For Lavender and other cats: Could she wear a skinny-strapped harness with a bell? Maybe she could get out of that too, but it might be worth a try. I have a little harness like that for my chihuahua and she likes it a lot better than collars.

As a cat mom, I hate the break away collars. I use a small dog collar that buckles, and my cat Lily has her name tags and a bell, but that's also because she's very vocal.
Is your cat 100% indoor without a possibility of escaping outside? Bells are like a death sentence if your cat ends up outside because they can’t fend for themselves from predators or to feed themselves. Breakaway collars keep them from being accidentally strangled. This may truly not ever be a factor for you but for anyone reading who it may be just throwing it out there!
