- With many of Africa’s key species, including elephants, heading toward extinction, Akashinga is a radical, new and highly effective weapon against poaching. Founded in Zimbabwe by former Australian special forces soldier and anti-poaching leader Damien Mander, the women-only team of rangers is revolutionizing the way animals are protected, communities are empowered - and its members’ own lives are being transformed. Mander’s innovative approach to conservation calls for community buy-in rather than full-on armed assault against poachers: If a community understands the economic benefits of preserving animals, then it will eliminate poaching without an armed struggle. Executive produced by three-time Academy Award winner James Cameron and directed by Maria Wilhelm, AKASHINGA: THE BRAVE ONES is a celebration of the courage, conservation and unorthodox thinking that’s leading to massive positive change.

I watched this video like 5 times... Is amazing how empowerment can do to any human, not only women but men too. I'm humbled by their strength, honor and braveness. As a woman I'm even prouder because most of these ladies have tough lifes and come scaping from violence, poverty and other hardships of life. Many are mothers, but all sisters now because of this great program.
I hope more ladies can join in and chance their lifes and ours, by protecting our lovely animals and African lands. You ladies, are a hope to this world.

What an amazing clip. All these ladies have endured so much hardship and yet they fight on. They deserve every ounce of respect. Thank you Nat Geo for sharing!!
This is a training with no torture but teaching , enhancing their skills ,encouraging theirs no limit for women ,endurance mentality physical strength discipline armys, these women deserves respect !! AKASHINGA !!
In the first half of the film I kept asking to myself *"Why did they choose women to form the Akashinga?"*
Then at 8:27 the leader of the women said *"I love my elephants like my children, so I must protect them like my children."*
Then it made a whole lot of sense, they chose women, most of whom were mothers because of their motherly instinct to protect and defend. What an awesome documentary and an awesome organization and an awesome mission. Thank you.
I admire these brave women. They have courage, conviction, and determination. Truly an inspiration.
I admire the courage and brevity of these women. Nothing will stop them. Go Akashinga
"I love elephants like I love my own children" ❤️
I just watched the full 13:45-long documentary. It was AMAZING! Very inspiring as a S Korean female vegan who also hopes to integrate military background in anti-poaching efforts. Respect to all forms of life on Mother Earth! 🦍🐄🐖🐁🐓🐆🐅🦓🦌🙌🏻
long live Akashinga....the power of women warrior
Everyone matters in a society. These women will use their strength and skills to protect endangered animals in their country. As we can see, bravery knows no gender💪💪🤝❤.
I'm from Texas and this is very moving for me. May God always be on your side
Hopefully, you don't eat God's precious animals such as Cows, Dogs, Cats, Pigs, Chickens.

Amazing! Only a 13 minute video and I am in tears. Human rights and animal rights have always been inextricably tied. Can this please become a full-length documentary? I want to see more.
I Commend these Women, for Not giving up on anything, and this included's the Ladies that didn't make the Cut, as you tried your Best, so you Didn't Fail... I hope you all live to see your Grandchildren..

I was hoping this was a full documentary 1+ hours. It leaves you wanting more! 13 mins is not enough!
Its nice to see that people still care about the environment and the wild animals these woman are risking their lives for nature respect
@George people care, but unfortunately we get into a either or situation when it should not be this way. we honestly ( i believe) have the technology now to transition away from destructive means to produce energy and food but the money elite will squeeze every penny possible before they allow it to happen.
CRYING!!! THIS IS BRILLIANT!
This is one of the most empowering things I’ve ever seen. I love those women and wish the best for them 🙏🏼❤️

When women band together there's nothing they cannot accomplish. Even so, these women are impressive!
Show me a band of women that can design and build a dam, bridge, skyscraper, airplane, car, paved highway, even a house. That statement is simply not true at all.
Larry Klaas need just to look for a women group of architects
♥️♥️ crying - so beautiful and brave. I wanna be like them 💪🏾🙌🏾
Yes, You and I can be like them 💪🏽
Easy,Join them!
incredible wonderful amazing brave women, this made me cry, Blessings to the Akashinga women
I have so much respect for people like these women and I love Africa so much even though I have never been there. My soul is longing for learning about this harsh and magical land with their wild animals. It's so sad seeing majestic animals killed by humans, but when there are people like these women, there is still hope. I'm here in Vietnam and all can do is to raise awareness about all animal cruelty and wildlife related issues.
At last the women are getting RESPECT !!!!! God Bless you all ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Your sacrifice deserves in fact the great heroism that has to offer. Congratulations on your effort.
May God continue to bless and protect each of you brave ones. ❤❤
So inspiring!! Go Akashinga Rangers, you are in our prayers day and night
