I'll never forgive CN for airing the series entirely out of order. My dumb kid brain was so confused when someone was in a different relationship or job week to week.
and for editing the show and even not airing certain episodes due to being "inappropriate"...if Canada can air it on a kids network, why cant you?

One thing that caused this show to go down was the rising of it's sister show: Total drama.
Now they have Total Dramarama which is a completely babied down version (literally, they’re babies) of the show. It’s cute but just goes to show how cartoons aren’t really made for older kids/preteens, or actual teens for that matter, anymore. CN is pretty close to becoming a network for ages 1-6 until adult swim airs at night which is a dangerous game if you ask me lol

I was so shocked when I first saw this show because they actually had a black guy named Wyatt (I've never seen any other black guy with my name) and we had the same hair

I remember figuring out one of my favorite comic characters was Gypsy (Nightwing.) It made me happy. C: Us Gypsies do not get many good role models or good representation.
The only good one we can usually point to is Esmeralda for Hunchback of Notre Dame. Usually we are cursing some one for plot or pickpocketing. XD

Did none of you have basic health / biology lessons between 4th and 12th grade? Because that normalizes it all pretty quick; that, and all of the tampon bins in public restrooms, and the slightly less common, but by absolutely no means rare tampon dispensers, and the cornucopia of feminine hygiene products at gas stations, convenience stores, grocery stores, and supermarkets. How you were unable to feel like it was normal baffles me. It's just not something you should talk about in polite company, right up there with hemorrhoids, incontinence,, yeast infections, STD's, and intimacy. People don't talk openly about needing to shit or piss, and yet we have public restrooms, and toilets on open display in plumbing and hardware stores. It's the same with menstruation; just because most people don't want to talk about it over dinner, that doesn't mean it isn't already normalized.
@@ZeroFighter yes, they have a bunch of things available for us for that time of the month. But that doesn't make it rationalized nor does it make it glorified. Nothing normalizes it when everybody treats you as if you're disgusting. No matter what girls do in life their periods will always be considered gross and not normal. I can't think of one time I bled through my pants and people treated it as if it was nothing. I'm not saying you're wrong but you're not 100% right. Normalizing periods solely means everyone understands that something we can't control and that it is okay and not gross.

You know what normalizes it? People understanding that it's normal, and acting accordingly. I have to assume then that nobody around you ever learned about it, because that's the only reason I can come up with why they'd be so jarred by it. I'm not sure if that makes them privileged, considering it was taught to my peers and I in public school, and they must not have needed public school, or if they're so under-privileged, they couldn't even go to public school. Either way, saying that nothing normalizes it is bullshit. Education is all it takes.
This show is *WAY* more relatable to me now at 20 then it was as a kid. It's a *CRIMINALLY* underrated show and deserves *WAY* more recognition!
Side note: That one episode where Jonsey and Jude kiss was *GOLD*

I'm 27 and I still love 6teen (that jude and jonesy moment ftw!) and total drama island, action, and world tour.
I like the episode where Wyatt and Jonesy were mistaken for an arguing gay couple.
The characters always seemed more like 20+ year olds than teens. I recall an episode where they felt awkward and "too old" to be frequenting the arcade. Like, what? How is a 16 year old at an arcade weird? Granted, a 20+ year old being there isn't weird either but it makes even less sense as-is.
@@Bacxaber Teens (from what I went through), tried to seem more mature than they really are with the emotional support of a five year old. They probably wanted to be seen as grown up and didn't want to be treated as kids so they wouldn't act like one to prove it.

As someone who just turned 17 in November amongst 2020, my life has been interesting, but probably not cool by most definitions. I was actually homeless for a couple months.
This is exactly how a show should go. Not as a “Well it peaked at this point and went way down from there and is still going on today”, but a “Man that show was so good, it should get a reboot”.

It’s weird cause you rarely see such different personalities hanging out in high school. It’s usually cliques of the type. Skaters with skaters, stoners with stoners, drama kids with drama kids and such. Teens aren’t really open to variety especially when identity is such a big thing.

Honestly Total Dramarama is not as bad as everyone is making it to be. Okay it's the weakest so far, but it's taking a different route to keep things fresh. Furthermore many of the characters are voiced by the same actors and act a lot like their teen selves.

I remember watching this show when I was about 5 years old, and it was my favorite tv show at one point.
If there is a reboot or a sequel to this, I would highly support it and would watch it to feel the nostalgia of my early childhood. 6teen May have been overshadowed by TDI and other shows, but it will always be remembered as one of the best shows to watch in the mid-late 2000’s.
You know what I like? The fact they don't do the whole tattoos are bad angle but instead say 'think about what you're going to get if you get one'.

this show got me way to amped to work a retail job when I was 16.... I was so miss-lead lmao
Man 6teen made being 16 seem fun, in reality it really isn’t.
I rewatched the show when I was 18 years old (21 now). I enjoyed it and thought it was worth the rewatch. It's the kind of show that doesn't really have a plot- it's just about the characters hanging out at the mall and their daily antics. There are a couple of continuous storylines that sort of develop (particularly the romantic plotlines) but there isn't a ton of continuity beyond that. I specifically remember the show contradicting itself a couple times and just totally dropping some storylines. And then it just... ended, pretty abruptly. The finale was well done, it had a really good message, but I remember thinking, "Oh, ok, they must have been told the show was done and ended it right then and there" . It worked okay since again, this show wasn't heavy on plot and wasn't really leading up to anything. The humor, characters, and themes explored are what made the show worth watching. Though I will say that rewatching it was kind of frustrating because there was a certain character that got reaaally annoying... Caitlin. She just got worse and worse as the show progressed. They were clearly trying to write her as someone who has a good heart but keeps messing up (i.e. pissing her friends off) but is redeemed at the end of every episode because ultimately she's just so sweet and she didn't mean to hurt anyone and loves her friends. But then she keeps doing that... over and over... to the point that she unintentionally comes off as extremely selfish and you hate watching her despite the show's efforts to justify her actions (and that was the most frustrating part!). At first I didn't like Nikki because I thought she was a stereotypical alternative punk girl who thinks she's better than other girls (especially with the contrivance that was her working at that clothing store with those annoying blonde chicks) but she actually evolves and becomes better and better as the show went on, and by the end I thought Nikki was the best character of the show. All the episodes are on CZcams and the consensus on this seems to be common in the comments section. Jen, Wyatt, and Jude are okay. Jonsey... is kind of problematic I guess. He's written as the lovable asshole- the fuck boy that slacks off and does sleazy things, but you still like him because of his charisma and care-free attitude. I remember it worked fine but I didn't like him as much I think the writers wanted me to.. though I admit the running gag of him getting fired every episode was really funny. He was probably the funniest character in the show..even if his behavior was questionable, I think that was the point. Overall I think the show could've been better, but I like it for what it is. I don't think it was trying to be anything besides a simple show about teenagers hanging out at the mall. It was interesting.

I totally agree about Caitlin. She really started to annoy me, including with how she'd fall for a different boy in, practically, every episode and think that they're, "the one." Then again, I guess it's a pretty interesting running gag.

Not gonna lie, one of my favorite episodes is the one where Jude's girlfriend, Starr, turns Goth and they break up at the end.
It was a mature episode and really helped Jude develop.
And Nikki was my favorite character in the show. I hated girly stuff and found her entertaining.

When I was a little kid I thought teenagers were so cool, and that when I became one I’d be popular and cool and confident. But then it actually happened and there were some of the most underwhelming years of my life.

I loved this show. It came out when I was 12 and ended when I turned 18, so I went through the same shit with them. I really want a reboot where they’re college-age together but as an adult swim kind of thing. Of course it’s not just implied that Jude is a stoner, we see him getting into all kinds of stoney shenanigans. We all know Jen won’t be able to pick a major because she wants to study everything. Nikki and Jonesy go through the growing pains from a high school to an adult relationship, and Wyatt tries (and fails and succeeds) to make it in music. It would be such a great way to see my old gang again but meet them where I’m at.
6Teen was one of my favorite shows as a kid, but looking at it as an adult makes me realize how totally underrated it is.

I'm Canadian. Most of my friends and acquaintences prefered 6teen over Total Drama, mainly because of the connection to the characters. So it boggles my mind that there are still Total Drama spinoffs to this day.
Well Total Drama is a spinoff of the reality show Survivor.

Cryptic Corgi Most animation I watched when I was a kid was canadian, or canamerican. We have a few laws mandating we have to air Canadian content from Canadian companies or Canadian creators, such as 25% of our radio time being dedicated to canadian musicians (which is why you’ll still hear old Avril Lavigne songs on the radio here).
Things might be different now with more access to international content. I’m 27 now, and we really only had basic cable or satellite in most homes when I was a wee one.
You can usually tell if it’s a Canadian production (or CanAmerican, since a lot are done by both Canadian and American companies) by spotting little Canada flags in backgrounds sometimes, or random tiny references to canadian stereotypes. Such as moose and shit lmao.

I know it was out of order but I can't thank CN enough for bringing this stateside. I was a late tween when this came out and I hated the typical teen/tween shows. Thankfully TDI and 6teen came stateside and I really enjoyed them. (Plus this was the closest thing to an animated show made for Adults I was able to watch without getting in trouble.)

I love how Canadian shows are becoming a little more known in the US and on CZcams. I grew up with Teletoon and while we had a lot of American shows, the majority of what was broadcasted was Canadian, particularly in Québec since with American cartoons, they had to translate them and dub them while with Canadian shows, a lot of them were already written in French (Totally Spies, Kid Paddle, Atomic Betty, Delta State, Fred's Head, Delilah and Julius and probably a lot more) or translated at the same time, so it was easier. They're gradually becoming harder to find, so it's really cool to see CZcamsrs finally talking about them, if people begins to want them, maybe Teletoon will finally release DVDs of their shows (or streaming, whatever)

I feel like a lot of the roles in 6teen are very reminiscent of Friends, almost like my Gen's version of it, but just lesser because it didn't have that decades-long staying power and didn't "define a generation" like people say Friends did

It isn't as deep as Jonesy's arc, Nikki's revealing her soft side to Jonesy and especially the finale, and of course, Wyatt being over his first ex. But I still appreciate what they did with Caitlin because of that episode when she and Nikki fought. Caitlin is still smart when she needs to be, and Nikki sees it. Nikki appreciates it when Caitlin does mischievous things with the group. Not to mention, she's really kind and encouraging to the other members. If Jen is the mother of the group, Caitlin is the sister you can hang out with.

Most Canadian shows weren't over mediocre, but this show is one I remember watching on a regular basis.
6teen is a show I can always come back to, no matter what time of year or what state of mind I'm in. It's such a great show and I will always love it. Wyatt, Jonesy, Nikki, Jen, Caitlin, and Jude(especially Jude) have become some of my favorite characters in media. Also the grind me joke was so funny, and it's one of the only jokes that made me pause an episode and laugh my ass off to near no breathing. Great show
You know, a video analyzing the different character relationships would be pretty fun too-caitlyn hanging out with Jude and Wyatt were some of my favorite moments, esp bc they weren’t used as often as the boys + girls hanging out on their own
