    Been sparring a lot lately was always scared of it when I was younger but now it's the funnest part of training to me and I always make sure to show up sparring day! I worked my left hook to the body and landed it several times on some pros and my coach. A good move to try to develop imo

    I think you should also be physically prepared and in a good shape, especially if you are hard sparing for the first time. what suprised me most was how energy draining taking as well as punshing at 80-100% is. So cardio is super important; you dont want to end up being gased after 1min 😅

    Hi, Gab! Can you please make a "Beginners Guide To Sparring" or "How To Start Sparring" video?
    This would be helpful for beginners who are scared to spar because they don't want to get hurt (or show up at work or pick up the kids at daycare with two black eyes and a busted nose!).
    I've learned so much from your videos. Thanks and keep up the great work! 😃🥊

      Sometimes it helps to use the last/last 2 rounds of hard sparring for mainly testing your counters/escapes.
      Never a shame to call it good sooner, too (like a minute before the end).
      Good training partners won't get mad at you if you do it sometimes.

    Water, salty food and WATER hours before. And lots of water the 2 days before.
    Good sleep the night before using routines (important to make you find solutions for competitions).
    Prepared quality fatty food in small servings for healing (3 meals prepared/2 days prepared. comforting too if you got owned lol). Plus cooking can help with cognitive anxiety the day before the fight.
    Preparing ice so that you have enough of it post fight if needed. (Icing = 10 minutes ice max and 15/20minutes no ice, as many cycles as you want as long as you're not feeling cold).
    Hard sparring close/around the full moon.
    Having goals.
    Herbs and spices and water and massage after the fight.
    Long steam bath or normal sauna (normal duration aka less than 20 minutes) on day 2 and 3 after the fight.
    No diuretics to 'help healing' (🙄).
    No sexual activity after a tough fight (2 days minimum if you won, 3 days minimum if you lost/got injured). GF/waifu can be nice differently for the warrior to rest. Minimal sexual activity before hard sparring fights/pre-competitive weeks.
    Watching videos of the fight day 2 post fight, not sooner. In the morning.

    my major point would be to keep it technical.. OK to go hard but you want to make sure you are sparring what you are training.. I found this happened a lot with the beginners.. they would just want to prove they can hang so would throw technique out the window and just swing...great final point about establishing rounds... especially helps when you are switching up partners each round too.

    How hard is hard sparring? Sometimes when I spar a couple rounds I catch one or two hard hits to the head and end up with a headache. Never been hit by someone who was putting anymore than 50% power though. Maybe 60% max. What percentage is hard vs too hard? I usually think of light as 10-20% max.

    • @DanielGonzalez-ck7qv
      @DanielGonzalez-ck7qv Před 2 lety +3

      It's not just a percentage of strength, at least on my gym in light sparring we're not able to kick hard the head or the shins. In hard sparring we can throw anything with 100%, but we're not able to finish someone if he goes drunk after a punch. If that happens, sparring stop, cuz you don't want to hurt your partner.

    • @ReverentGhost
      @ReverentGhost Před 2 lety +11

    • @ReverentGhost

      @@DanielGonzalez-ck7qv too the body is ok I think. I just don't put much power into head shots, sparring isn't worth brain damage. I don't want my training partners going home with headaches and I don't either

    • @HAYAOLEONE
      @HAYAOLEONE Před 2 lety

      Hard sparring is 80-90%
      But more important is the focus, the impulses from the ground (100%), the explosive footwork in direction and precision, the very strong desire to accomplish something (good sparring has goals), the seriousness given to following a tactic, learning to listen to your corner/'calm down', learning to detect serious injury (if it feels very real, it's real. even though the pain might not be very sharp due to max activation and/or adrenaline dump), etc.
      Hard sparring is about coming very close to a fight in all its parameters, not just 'hitting hard'.

    Hi Gabriel, I love your videos! I pretty much watch them daily. You cover such a variety of topics within kickboxing with so much detail in a humble and encouraging way. As a female fighter, I often feel somewhat alienated though. I've talked to other female fighters who feel the same way. I definitely think you're not doing it on purpose but while you acknowledge that women train, whenever you talk about your viewers' oppenents, sparring partners or coaches you exclusively use the pronoun "he". It would mean a lot if you'd acknowledge women in these roles (by simply saying "he or she", or people/folks instead of guys), as we're often disregarded as coaches and sparring partners and not taken as seriously as fighters.
