As a new Zealander and warriors fan I will never forget watching Maloney as a kid back in 2011 when he played a big part in getting the warriors to the GF and he was our goal kicker ,was gutted when he moved back to Aussie
First time JM busted in the Scene was with the warriors no doubt...I think he came out of the STORM system at that time and wasn't getting first grade games especially when you are behind Cooper Cronk at that time .....but I believe JM was on the radar of top-tier clubs at that time which probably made it an easy transition for him to go back to Australia 🇦🇺 but man he's a gun for us WFFW 💯
James Maloney is a all time great to me,such a talented player and was never afraid to grab the game and just go for it.Even after he'd throw a intercept in origin or some other game he'd still just keep on and go after it
As a QLD supporter I always thought he was a grub when it came to State of origin. But I rated Jimmy Maloney as a player and he had a very underrated career, people forget he helped the Wahs make it to the GF in 2011. He was probably the 3rd best halfback of his generation after Thurston and Cronk.

I bet Luai had to deal with a lot of pressure from his agent too. It’s part of the reason that there are so few halves around. If their club won’t play them in first grade at the earliest opportunity, their agent is in their ear trying to get them too switch clubs for first grade money (and commission for the agent). They get burned way too early. I think that was the problem for Moses and Brookes. They both arrived at the same time and one was going to have to twiddle their thumbs in reserves if an experienced mentor like Maloney was brought in. They only had each other , each with no experience, in a struggling team. Hastings, Ash Taylor…
