I go over which terminal letter each color wire should be connected to. This video shows how to strip the outer jacket on 18 gauge thermostat wire properly and how to strip each individual wire making sure not to cut into the copper. It was a good video, however I must correct one item. The material you are referring to as insulation is not insulation. It is a string that you use to strip the outer jacket away from the conductors without having to pull the wires apart.
    The string in a typical recently manufactured multiple element thermostat wire is there to help an installer more easily strip off the main outer jacket without harming or nicking the individual inner wire jackets.

    If you are replacing thermostat you should turn off the power in order to prevent activation of heat or AC unit.
    Turn off main switch at the furnace that will deactivate power to low voltage Transformer and then you can proceed with wiring a thermostat.

    can you explain the Rc terminal & the jumper wire please

    • @acservicetechchannel
      @acservicetechchannel  Před 8 lety +2

      rc and r are normally jumped. That is for a furnace and ac system which would be one system. If it were two systems, one heat and one cooling then you would remove the jumper because two separate 24v are coming into the thermostat from two different systems. r and w would be used for heat. y, g, rc, and c would be used for cooling. C is the optional for hard powering the thermostat instead of batteries. I hope that helps, thanks

    What does the blue wire do? Ypu mentioned hardwireing . What does it mean?

    • @acservicetechchannel
      @acservicetechchannel  Před 5 lety +1

      That is the common or the path back for the thermostat to get powered with the r wire so that the tstat does not need batteries. The c terminal gets connected to the common side of the 24v transformer, thanks!

    It is not clear in video why the blue wire is in C. in other words blue not in B ?

  • @wgibson768
    @wgibson768 Před 10 měsíci +1

    That's not insulation. It's a rip cord to cut the jacket so you don't use the wires.

  • @jusufvelovic7562
    @jusufvelovic7562 Před 7 lety

    you say its hard wired, but where is the power cables?

    • @acservicetechchannel
      @acservicetechchannel  Před 7 lety

      It would be 18-6 wire for a furnace and ac without a temp sensor. Here is a wiring video- czcams.com/video/5lxftJiTqLg/video.html

    • @jusufvelovic7562
      @jusufvelovic7562 Před 7 lety

      i got one more question. My thermostat has the general red, green, yellow, blue wires (the white wire is tucked away) and this one thicker cable with three non-insulated copper wires as well. Do you know what it could be?

    • @acservicetechchannel
      @acservicetechchannel  Před 7 lety

      You would have to turn the power off and check inside the furnace or air handler and match up terminal to terminal R to R, G to G and so on. Even though most techs use the thermostat color code, not all do. thanks
