    Gorgeous fabrics and plans! I really like Selfmade’s fabrics as well and I’m planning to go to their shop in a nearby town soon as they’ve started their sale now. Their shops are so lovely and inspiring! Me my friend take it as a fun outing, spend a loooong time in the shop and then go for a nice meal and then usually brows some more shops.

    Lovely choices Sally! Perhaps a Westcliff dress would look nice in the fabric that you are unsure of because it has a bit of stretch. I’d love to see another Pippa dress or the Rita shirt dress in that gorgeous blue and yellow floral. Happy sewing! 💖

    I am watching while wearing my new Atelier Brunette Le Top in double gauze - exactly the same one that you showed. It is gorgeous. My only comment is that the fabric frays quite a lot and if you are doing french seams with a 1cm seam allowance it is quite fiddly. I hope that makes sense. Enjoy using it. I may have to buy the rusty colourway too.

    Excited for your new fabrics! I recently bought the TATB Coco pattern only to realize it's recommended fabric is midweight jersey and I had bought a modal. I was worried it wouldn't work as well so I'm relieved to see how happy you are with your more drapey viscose version. Looking forward to seeing your new black and white striped make!

    • @SecretLifeOfASeamstress
      @SecretLifeOfASeamstress  Před 5 dny +1

      I think the style of the Coco is supposed to be structured but it's essentially a T shirt so will work with any jersey but produce a different kind of fit and wear. If you like the drape like I do you'll be fine :) Xx

    Love all the fabrics but I think the last atelier brunette fabric was my favourite. I finally got to wear my co-ord set last week in that lovely sunny weather, you inspired me to make it and reminded me that I had Ashton top pattern, which is my new favourite top pattern, I think I will be making more of them, I have the sleeve extension pack as well so it will take me into the autumn. I hope you like your smith jacket as much as I love mine, also inspired by you. It’s a great pattern to sew -once I got my head round the hidden button placket. Thank you again for another great episode. ❤

    I wanted to add... well done finishing sewing through your stash! We get tempted to go on to new things, but it is so good to use what we already have, and learn before we move on. I am currently (slowly) getting through my stash and forcing myself to think about why those fabrics sat there for so long, why did I buy them to begin with, how can I get them out of the bin and into my wardrobe. I like how use made the Montana dress from stash fabric, liked the pattern, and now are ready to make it in another fabric with the experience of having made it already. Same goes for patterns.

  • @downtoearthsewing
    @downtoearthsewing Před 6 dny

    Beautiful fabrics! For the jumpsuit, I would suggest using interfacing for zipper, patch pockets, and other details. I really struggle with stretch woven fabrics when it comes to topstitching and zippers because it can stretch as you sew. Interfacing and using a glue stick instead of pins help a lot. Maybe your fabric will be well behaved :)

    Hi Sally, I love watching your videos on a Sunday morning. How about the Montana dress in the blue and yellow no pockets etc to distract from the fabulous pattern would look amazing. I don’t really like gingham type fabrics for the Montana as the bodice seam always looks wonky and distracts your eye. The boxy jacket you showed would look great in the gingham with Jeans etc. how about the Matchy Matchy peplum split tank for another option for the Atelier fabric.

    • @SecretLifeOfASeamstress
      @SecretLifeOfASeamstress  Před 5 dny

      Thank you for the suggestions! I did realise after that I'd maybe have the same problem with the gingham that I had with the stripes for my Montana - silly me haha x

  • @leepayk-bann3489
    @leepayk-bann3489 Před 6 dny +1

    The Montana dress is fine, you need to change the neckline like you did with the scoop neck tee and lengthen the bodice to bring it in with a tie. It will shape it better and show off the gingham without it being intense. I have considered the closet core pattern. I am not sure. That blouse fabric would look good in the cropped Jenna shirt. The fabric hall and your plans look great!

  • @jeanettespracklen5777

    I made the Montana dress in double gauze and put some elastic in the back to bring it in.
    You could use that fabric for something like the Gia dress (I think that is what it's called) by Tammy handmade

    So pleased you are planning to make the Sew over it Tea dress, that has been on my " to do 'list for ages but I have been nervous about getting
    the fit right. I agree with you that a small floral print is ideal for this dress, I love your choice of fabric, I have a similar one ready and waiting.
    As for the gingham fabric for the Montana dress, it might be tricky using a fabric with that amount of stretch. I tend to get my inspiration from the Toast clothing website ,and for the Montana type of dress theirs are always made in a wide variety of woven fabrics. You might want to have a look ( their prices are mind blowing 😂 ).

    • @SecretLifeOfASeamstress
      @SecretLifeOfASeamstress  Před 6 dny

      I hope I can do the tea dress justice 🙈 Yes I agree about the gingham the more I think about it the less suited I think it is. So annoying! I love Toast for inspiration too they have such lovely things don’t they xx

  • @karenminet9275
    @karenminet9275 Před 6 dny

    Re the Montana black/white, I would not use it, only because if the seam line between top and bottom isn’t perfectly matched, it will look sloppy. I really struggle with that kind of precision. The eye goes right to imprecision there. Maybe you are better at it than me. I think a ditsy floral would be pretty in a viscose. And much easier to work with. For the black/white, it would be a cute short set or an Ilford jacket.

    • @SecretLifeOfASeamstress

    Lovely fabrics that will be fun to make up. I thought there was an issue with straight horizontal lines on the Montana dress at the waist? Is there a curve to the waist? As soon as you showed the Reeta pattern I thought that would look better in the gingham than the Montana dress. I’m looking forward to seeing your Almy top.

    I’m glad you mentioned the Ashton top. I have made it but not finished it as the armholes are too low. I have also taken in by at least 2 “ each side which helps the armhole. However I have looked atsizing down and the armscye doesn’t seem to shift significantly. Did you have this issue?,I looked at the blog and it appears they amended the armhole as it was too low when testers made it. So I’m confused 😊
