    The hoya that really didn't disappoint, but exceeded expectations is Hoya Caudata. Love this plant. The flowers are even more adorable in person and it doesn't stop flowering. It's been flowering non-stop since June. Such a sweet heart 🥰 Hoya Thomsonii is also much more adorable in person. Extremely hairy. It is currently working on 3 peduncles, can't wait to see the blooms :)

    Just started watching your videos. Very informative, so appreciated. I’m just wondering how you have those pots hanging on the metal grid. What magic are you using there? I’m always looking for new ways to get my plants off flat surfaces onto the wall. Most wall hangers I’ve found require a terra cotta pot with a lip but I see you have cute little round pots on the wall. What’s going on there? Maybe I see a metal clip of some kind??

    Hi Miro🙋🏻‍♀️ I grow my hoya Sulawesiana in Pon. I also found it as a slower grower and it doesn’t like to be moved. I gave it a trellis after I saw a really long vine. Now it has stopped growing.. but I do see lots of healthy roots growing into the water reservoir. So in my experience, sulawesiana is just a slow grower 🌱 hope this helps!😊

      My regular Australis grows essily, but the Lisa hates my guts 👀 She grew well (just one looong strand), until I chopped her up to make a full pot out of her. Ever since she's been killing off leaves and stems 🤷‍♀️ Whenever something new grows it will be killed off within days. I have no idea what her tantrum is about.

    That Hoya sulawesiana is absolutely gorgeous… ! ❤ I’d love to hear your thoughts on dry root rot, or any root rot for the matter. I’ve been feeling under the weather for the past few months and neglected my plants… Unfortunately, i lost a few hoyas due to dry root rot😢I would like to know if there’s some tell signs before the leaves suddenly turn yellow and fall off… Like besides knowing that it’s been underwatered and checking the roots for rot, is there orther signs or tricks…?

    • @siobhanhogan4495
      @siobhanhogan4495 Před rokem +3

      I'm no Miro, but I relate to your post! I've learned that, basically, when my Hoya stop actively growing despite good conditions, they probably have rot. The leaves get super flimsy and "soft" feeling on most when they want water. For Hoya that are thin leaved, I've noticed the leaves lose their "luster". Like my H. latifolia goes from a nice, strong green to a more "muted" green. It's sooo subtle and I was underwatering it for months as a result. Tbh, almost all my Hoya do this, to a degree - they just look "thirsty", or "tired". As a result, I'm getting better at being able to tell when to water. Most advice I've read on dealing with Hoya suffering from decent dry rot is to (literally) rip the roots off and start again. Get all the dry, dead stuff off so it doesn't continue to rot - it's scary but it's also fun to tear into the dead roots! Give whatever's left a soak in some water (adding sugar is optional) and then re-root it however you'd like! I've revived multiple Hoya multiple times this way! To try and make things easier on myself, I've invested in a wire rack with some lights, and I use cake pans from the thrift/dollar store to hold my Hoya together. If I'm sick or busy, I bottom water them all in one go! It's not a perfect solution, but it's an ergonomic solution for now!
      But yeah, I think the general consensus on Hoya with root rot is to re-root the plant. It's the quickest solution with a higher success rate than trying to water the existing, rotting plant more/less. Hope some of that is useful! :) Happy growing!

    • @BasiePlants
      @BasiePlants  Před rokem +1

      Usually when they can’t rehydrate, that is a sign there is root rot going on. This happens before leaves start to yellow and fall off :)

    • @BasiePlants
      @BasiePlants  Před rokem +1

      Tired leaves are a great sign!

    • @miranaomyberube1400
      @miranaomyberube1400 Před rokem

      Thank you very much to both of you! :) I’ll try to pay more attention to the leaves when I inspect them! Though with some kinds, like Hoya fitchii for example, it mus be hard to notice subtle differences, cause of the intricate pattern and the texture of the leaves…!

    Miro: What do you do when the hoyas out grow their space? Each year, when I bring my hoyas in from my balcony-because I live in Canada-I find that I am running out of space.
    At this time, I only have 25 varieties, but they are getting just that much bigger. I do not have tents or cabinets because, again, I do not have the space. Enough of my troubles, I love your hoya Germany and the Sulawesian. They are the ones I dream of. Please, please take care of them. You always cheer me up. Give your Mom a hug for me/

    • @BasiePlants

      I cut them back when they grow too big :) I simply don’t have space for everyone to become big. Only favorites get that prime real eastate. But putting them on walls, hanging them from ceilings and good trellising (which I can say nothing about) will do wonders for saving space!

    The Hoya Sulawesiana has been on my wish list for a while. I am hesitating to buy it because my growing conditions may not be the best. I have an Insularis that has been struggling - it started out fine, then the leaves started to yellow and several fell off. It is down to 5 leaves at this time, but no more yellow showing as of the last week. Make that four..just snapped one off. The substrate it came in is coco chips and overwatering may be the issue, if the substrate holds stays damp too long. I am going to put it in a net pot and possibly add some perlite? In your opinion, would the perlite help absorb any excess water being retained by the coco chips? The humidity in my condo is about 52% now that the weather is changing, so I will be ordering a humidifier. Any suggestions you have would be so much appreciated.
    Love your videos - as a new hoya-holic I am trying to learn as mush as possible and your content is wonderful.
