Hey guys! I'm Alexandra Gater and I show you how to do rental-friendly upgrades and DIY projects on a budget. New videos every Saturday! Today I'm making over a viewer's tiny living room that also doubles as an entryway. This tiny living room is super narrow and right beside the kitchen so the goal is to create a cozy space that feels separate from the rest of the small apartment.

Thank you so so much Alexandra and team AG! It’s a rainy day today and Gili and I both spent most of the day snuggled up on the sofa in class or napping 🥰 The space has gone from under utilized to being the most used in the apartment! I’m thrilled with the way it turned out and am so excited to share it with people in person when it’s safe to do so! Much much love and gratitude ❤️
You are lots of fun on camera! The apartment looks great, and your dog is adorable.
You´re nice, funny ...and now your home is like that !!! Greetings from Argentina. Oh I love the skyers painting .
@@lyndemar Thank you for the kind comment! Hope you have a lovely weekend
@@carolargentina Gracias Carol, espero esquiar en Argentina un día
@@evajmd Siiii , te esperamos, genia !!!!! 💕
I’m so impressed that she felt ok with telling you she didn’t like the color very 👍 nice.
Well it’s her space so why would she not tell her? I would definitely tell if I didn’t like something.
Can't blame her the color was awful.
I liked that too!
@@Sookielein I would kill for pale lavender walls like that
@@MagentaLooks Really? To me it looks like the skincolor of a corpse 😅 But I mean to everybody their own the world would be so boring if we were all the same
Yes of course we want to know the story of how you all met!
Definitely!
Would love to hear the details Alexandra 😎💖
Yes please!
Yes!
Yes, please! Alexandra and Evie, you two together are hilarious! I love your rapport.
I love that you showed and didn't just cut out the fact that Eva didn't like the wall color and changed it. You could have easily just made it look like the green was your first choice. Not trying to be perfect, but real and I would say even more professional ☺️
It’s also viewer friendly as we get to see two color choices. That almost never happens.
@@charismahornum-fries691 so true!
Eva is so chaotic 😂 using glue on the new sofa, painting with the tiny brushes, putting up the shelves without a level. Honestly i love it, very relatable! Great job on the finished space, i loooove the end result!
And the floor belly slide when she got excited with the progress. Love it!
Were they on COVID lockdown? Maybe she just had to use what she had.
Love it
Eva is literally the most entertaining guest you've had on the show! Bring her back for more!
Happy to know I'm not the only who thought so!
I agree!
Thank you for the kind comment and glad to hear I’m indeed more fun than my brother!!!!!!!!
Yes, this was a great episode, loved Eva's personality and watching her dog enjoying the new place.
Was coming to the comment section to say the same!
"This the closest I've been to holding hands with anyone in so long" I felt that 😂
Please advise! That was adorable and so relatable! Origin of such cuteness?
I'd love to see thrifted/upxycled room makeovers for people who can't afford high end pieces! ,💜
That pendant light is such a game changer for renters!
I'm definitely doing it!
I am thinking about doing it too, but I realized that the lampshade "cage" or "frame" has to NOT touch the light bulb(s). You have to be able to wedge it beside the light bulb and fixture in general to get it close enough to the ceiling. Not as easy as it looks and wouldn't work for everyone. Plus I'd like to cover up the bottom of the hanging shade...this will take some thought.
@@susanma4899 Yes, I was also thinking about the view under the shade. I also think I could remove my 'boob light' glass cover to give some more room for the frame. I was also thinking if there would be another way to hang it without cup hooks going into the ceiling... my first thought was Command Hooks but I'm not sure that's a good idea!
I love the look but also concerned that it'll block the brightness of the ceiling lights in general too
@@s2rawRberry I wonder if there's a way to have the cane webbing but not the fabric part of the lampshade so more light can come through...
This girl needs her own channel! 🙌
she does have her own channel (somewhat). Check the pinned comment (Eva Emdee) ;)
Eva stole the show! She was so funny. Quite the character she is. Her space looks so good.
Thank God her rather careless behaviour didn't get glue or paint on anything as I watched her I held my breath... Thank God it All looks Good...
Eva is so gorgeous!! Also the fact that when she moved her furniture there wasn't a pile of dog hair tumbleweeds tucked in the corners behind them has to be some kind of sorcery. As a dog owner who has to vacuum twice a day, that blew my mind haha
hahahahaha the dog is relatively new so the hair is slowly accumulating in the lesser-vacuumed spots! glad I have this to look forward to over time ;)
I love how carefree she was! I think it takes away some of my anxiety and perfectionism, and encourages me to try something, even if I fail.
Same!!! I was cringing while she painted and did the pendant on the new sofa lol but she did a beautiful job!!! It came out gorgeous and definitely helps me relax in my thoughts of preparing my newly rented studio apartment…. Maybe some help with having to live with carpet 😖 my landlords haven’t put flooring down but it’s their future plans I guess. I can’t afford to do it myself any time soon as I need a chair sofa bed frame refrigerator cook top shelving etc etc curtains blinds pretty much starting from scratch (that’s another story lol) Anyways I’m stuck with allergies and CARPET!! UGH!!! I HATE CARPET!!
Ok. Soooooo this makeover was everything for small space ideas!! The shelf for a side table? The bookcase being moved? And that PENDANT LIGHTSHADE!? Thank you Miss AG/Team AG!!
That lampshade trick is amazing. I have so many ceiling lights with no covers. There just weren’t any when we moved in, but we aren’t ready to completely replace the lights yet so that’s so an amazing hack that I can make them look a little nicer for the time being
I really enjoyed this one, the green colour was definitely the right choice, and EVA is amazing to hear and watch, she could be part of AG team easily.
And what's best, the dog feels good about it. After all,he is the star. Thank you. This room does justice for these two working out a room from a distance.
Watching Eva with her teeny brush, then CZcams pops up an ad for professional painters 😆🤣 They are saying “You don’t have to paint like Eva!” Oh I’m dying laughing 😭😄
send 'em over!!!! :)
Did anyone else have an absolute fit watching her paint with complete abandon? Even Team AG were like NO. :-)
HAHAHAHA I love this comment and hope you take some solace in the fact that I enjoyed painting with limited abandon!!
Believe it or not … Some of us who know how to “handle” paint and painting tools … do not require taping and extensive layout of “mistake” prep (despite Alexandra’s comment)! I haven’t used anything but a single piece of cardboard to set the paint tray on for years. However, I will say that Alexandra is a MUCH better designer … than she is a painter; So I can see her disbelief. 😉
That pendant is literally genius. You're amazing!!!
And it's rental friendly yay definitely my next project.
Loved this makeover! Probably because it included the client making the suggested changes. I loved how she was honest in the paint color choice and you went with her suggestion. Well done AG team!!!
Is Alexandra really not going to acknowledge the cuteness of the doggo?! Is this cat centric world view? I mean com’on! That doggo is the cutest!!!!!
Thank you!! Rest assured Alexandra acknowledges Gili's cuteness almost daily - which is admittedly more than I acknowledge Lottie's 🤭
The renter friendly pendant blew my mind 🤯 I have the ugliest boob lights in my town home, but they have weird LED hardwired lights that can’t be easily removed, so I haven’t been able to change them out. Now I can just cover them up! 😍
I love Eva and her happy energy!
Putting shelves up first, then using level and saying its broken, mood!!
Put wheels under the bookshelf so it's easy to move and access the lower shelves (they look hard to reach now)! 😊
What a great idea! They are storing seldom-used items at the moment but I will definitely do this if I end up needing to access the shelves regularly. Thank you :)
So glad her dog liked it ! She was a good sport videoing herself and I'm glad she changed the wall colour. Beautiful team work :)
Eva is brave to do all of this by herself... kudos to her
Loved the new couch, light fixtures, and amazing art on the wall. It went from college dorm to stylish eclectic. She just needed some inspiration- YOU!!
Does Eva have a channel? I love Eva & would totally watch her channel, whatever it's about!
Very nicely improved
So the sofa can be used as a bed too?
Cute doggy
Was she working with the super glue on her new coach??
I LOVE how the living room space is now separate and enclosed. It really gives a feeling of a special living/studying/socializing zone.
Yep! With a towel protecting the sofa :) comfy spot and sofa is still in tip top shape!
Right???? I was screaming NOOOOOOOOO in my head!!! haha
@@evajmd Feeling better. Couldn't see the towel.
Eva is such an amazing partner on this Reno. If you need a model for future renovations, hire her. She was a joy to watch,.
Eva way to go! If you can do all that work by yourself I can reorganize my one office. It can seem overwhelming but you painted, repainted, built a sofa and rearranged furniture and created a pendant light and hung shelves! I know Team AG had your back however the physical execution was all you! Great job. 💖💖💖
Eva has such a great personality! What a fun episode, loved it Alexandra ❣️
I like the sage better and Eva's painting got better the 2nd time around!! Eva I love ya girl, but I wanted to come paint for you. Also that pretty little dog looks fabulous on her new couch....way ta go Enjoy your new space You guys did good!
I love that that smart doggy hesitated about jumping on The New sofa
I agree about the color. Bland. The sage is much warmer. Especially liked the light shade, the chair & brass floor lamp. Love the hands holding necklaces. Love it!
Way more adult now! Very stylish & yet comfortable! The light was a great hack!
That drum light cover idea as GENIUS!!!
What a difference! I'm so impressed with your design and Eva's hard work. Love the sofa, love the rug, the bookshelf looks so much better where it is now, and the "tiled" entryway is genius! Great job, one and all!
I like this series because usually I think "wow look at what Alexandra and the crew can do" and when I see a video like this is "wow look at what I can do".
And I'm happy to say that my last 3 days were almost entirelly dedicated to makeover my bedroom, something I never did and I live alone for almost 10 years. I have to tell that You were my inspiration and it was one of the best weekends of the entire quarentine so far ( yeah, it's still quarentine in Brasil, this beautiful but horribly governed country).
I vote this space as the biggest change in the smallest space. Love the round rug to trick the eye. Thanks for sharing!
Yay to Eva for NOT using painters tape! It’s so wasteful and unnecessary, such a pet peeve of mine. Love the design, great job pulling it together!
I love that she did it all herself!
My mom would feel so validated! She paints everything lavender.
Omg what a transformation! The room now looks stylish and put together ! Well done girls ... excellent job 👍🏻👍🏻
Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed watching Eva! So gorgeous. I really need some of those gallery shelves. Thank you for showing the lampshade hack, as well.
I feel like Eva could have her own CZcams video channel because she's so fun and charismatic and great in front of the camera.
I love how you reused furniture like the bookshelf, and I love that rug!!! Spaces that are narrow like this are really challenging in my eyes because it's easy for them to feel like a space of transit, like just an in between of places, but you made it look so cozy and comfortable and beautiful!! It really looks so inviting!!
I am with Eva with the wall colour, but I honestly think it was a really beautiful colour, it just wouldn't have been for me even though I think it totally would have worked with the space, but I feel like the second colour warmed the space up a bit and made it a little more inviting and cozy. I think this is probably exactly what makes virtual makeovers tricky, because you're not in the space during the process and it's so normal and even to be expected for things to change slightly as you work in a place.
I think you really transformed this into a beautiful, homey, inviting place, and it's always so so cool to see you transform a space. I am always so looking forward to your videos!!
Love it. Not sure about that piece of vinyl though. I think she would have been better off either leaving it bare or using a black long, slim rug. That’s just me still :). It’s very cool that you could help her from a distance. Such fun. 🥳.
Yeah in such a small place, the vynil doesn´t do any difference. The rug is awesome !!!!!!!!! Also the art wall, couch and bookstore :)
I agree, in such a small space why draw attention to the front door ? The rest of the space look nice though
Yeah that butts into the space in an invasive way for me
but in winter wet boot dirty paws can easily take off boot wipe the paws and leave it thereon vinyl as it won’t get damaged by wet boots
Planning on moving to a new city soon and spending a lot of time day dreaming about how I will design my spaces there and these AG marathon videos are helping so much!!
We need a playlist of all the AG rental friendly vids with coordinating DIY’s of all!
@@anneallen3566 yas! +1
I painted my bedroom in "opera" and I have dark and light grey bedding, etc. It looks so good on the walls, and so good with the grey. I absolutely love the combo.
Where the sage color may be more her style, it does nothing for the couch and accessories. Nevertheless, the space turned out quite nice! I like it.
That pendant light hack is so helpful!!! I neeed!!!!
One of my favorites! I keep rewatching whenever I need small space inspiration. It would be fun to watch another Eva makeover!
Really nice artwork on the wall above the sofa 💙🙏🎶🌈⭐️
The light shade is totally amazing!! I totally, totally love it!!! Totally!!
I’m always impressed with the small spaces that people live in…you always do a great job at making them more functional. The light hack was 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.
Eva is a natural on camera!!!!
OMG!!! I am totally going to use the idea to put a lampshade with 3 hooks on the ceiling xx 🤗
I loved the lampshade, the stick on floor mat, and the round rug! 🌷
Im so into that dusty lilac color, I gotta repaint my room 🤗✨
I love everything about this so much. I totally would have kept the Opera color, but the sage is really nice too! And she's gotta live with it, so she should like it. :) I love the rug and having it round looks fabulous. Eva was a delight to watch, too!
That light shade hack is exactly what I needed! Thanks a million! 👌
Really appreciated this video! My apartment’s living/dining room is about the same size and I almost never see rooms this small represented in videos like these
Love this! You “empowered” Eva! What a gift! You taught her SO much! This transformation will positively impact Eva everyday!
Hi Alexandra, My name is Julie, I live in Australia. I brought a unit about 6 yrs ago and I'll been renovating it. I've put in a new kitchen and bathroom. I do alright on the styling side and have learnt a lot from you. Love ❤️ your work keep it up.
That pendant lamp project was WOW!!!
Genius light fixture hack! 👍🏽
Eva is great! 😍 So entertaining and natural. I love the second paint color more, too. It's a comfy nook on the sofa under the shelves 😊
That dog has my heart ❤️
LOVE that renter friendly pendant!!!
I can't imagine living with a color I don't like, but that purple was gorg.
In real life it skews way more grey. My bedroom is painted that color and no one has ever described as lavender or any color other than grey or light grey. Maybe it's one of those colors that look very different in different lighting. My room, by choice, is a wee bit dark compared to that living room/entry.
Loved it so hard! Hope it comes back later
Wow, too cute. Amazing shelves as side tables, entryway definition, light fixture, shelf divider, all great Alexandra.
Eva is sooo natural on CZcams! Loved it
Love the make over and Eva's personality is so awesome!
Excellent job. The lampshade for the horrible ceiling light is super cool and with the cup hook installation so easy. Beautiful, functional space!!!
Living for Eva! She is so fun! Plus love the makeover
I agree with Eva, I'm not liking that color at all. It doesn't fit her aura at all.
Very cute apartment! I also liked the green paint. The artwork goes very well together. The cutest thing is the dog!
eva painting was the highlight of this video! 😅
I loved this video. I felt like it was filled with so many real world problems, yet the end result looks beautiful. I love the new colour and am glad to have seen 2 options on the world. I love the picture rails and how they were styled, but I especially love the lamp shade and the gold light. Stunning.
Such a great transformation especially in such a tiny space!
This was good. It's so clean. Organized and doesnt appear cluttered. The sofa is a great foundation. I actually liked the OPERA color. But The green is still good.
that lampshade upcycle is just what i need!! thank you for showing us how to do it!
Fabulous Alexandra. You always amaze me with your ideas.....
That renter-friendly pendant light is GENIUS! I'm about to move into a new apartment and they said I can't take down their lights, so this hack came out just in time! Thank you!!
As always, a brilliant transformation, including the change of paint color! That cane-wrapped lampshade is genius - the original shade becomes the lining. Also, my favorite word trinket: "... figger out the configgeration." So adorable!
Thanks Dear Alexandria 👍 💕💕💕🌹💕🙏🙏🙏 just started watching your interior design channel, am very far in Kampala, Uganda, Africa ❤️❤️ I live in a two roomed rental house 🏠. Am loving your communication earlier with the client , your openness n honesty even when things fail , mirror breaks 😳😔😳
This room turned out so nice and I want that dog! So adorable!!!!!
Most renter friendly solution to put frames on your walls is not less nails but command strips and other mounting strips that leave no residue when taken off
"Everyone supposed to take breaks no matter what." we all needed to hear this.
thank you for noticing and commenting!
Alexandra, you two are a hoot together, and the makeover was definitely a more polished and attractive version of the living room. I felt the pattern on designated entry space was too busy (for me) next to that pretty rug. On the bookshelf, it's hilarious that the book entitled "My Name is Malala" is placed next to one called "Tell Me Who You Are." Eva's humor is delightful. Love love love the pup!
Alexandra. You were SO patient & kind. I’m sure this whole thing wasn’t the easiest. You both ended up happy & ok. You can be proud! :) :)
This was a fun makeover!! Eva was so entertaining & her pup so adorable!! Love the couch, rug, & sage paint 💚 Great job to all!! 👍💐🤠
The cane lamp idea is brilliant! I'll have to use the idea in our next place. OOXXOO
I LOVE this makeover so much. I'm always impressed by tiny space makeovers, but this one blew me away from start to finish. It's so, so cute with the colors, the patterns of the tiles and the rug, the full sofa, the mixture of function and aesthetic with all of the shelves. The pendant is GENIUS. I feel like it could work for any renter ceiling light, too, if you found a large enough lamp shade - extra exciting for me since I have a hideous boob light, haha. Eva was an awesome guest, too! So fun and casual.
So much better! That DIY light turned out amazing. Love it. Great job ladies. 👏🎉
Eva did an amazing job! It doesn’t even look like the same room. Great job as always. 💕
I bought Yadin's book on his Masada archaeology dig when I was in Israel with my two sons the winter of 1977-8. Seeing that on the shelf sure brought back memories.
Fantastically done, truly.!!! And I'm drooling over Eva's art collection
The makeover looks beautiful and very cozy. The pendant shade makes a big difference in the look of the space. Great, great makeover. It seems the adorable doggie loves his new sofa and rug.
That is the cutest dang living room, Eva is very pretty and engaging.
