    I followed this video and planned a road trip to KY and WV from FLORIDA with my buddy. This guide made the trip possible. We stayed at Miguels; ate at Miguels, Rockhouse, and Skybridge; climbed Bruise Brothers, Natural Bridge Region, and BMRP. We ignored the advice to park at the first lot and got stuck in parking lot 4 for a bit.
    But this trip was so much easier to plan and execute because of this guide! Thank you so much Court!

    I'm not very familiar with cleaning routes after leading, how do you recommend setting up a personal anchor to clean and what all goes into the cleaning process for routes at the Red?

    • @courtclimbs
      @courtclimbs  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi! Great question! First, I just want to say that a question like this is best answered by taking a class where a qualified instructor shows you how to clean properly and safely. There are also some good videos online, maybe I will make one of my own in the future. This being said, here are the general steps I take to clean. Going indirect with the PAS, passing a bite of rope through the anchors, tying a knot and attaching that to myself with a carabiner, having my belayer test tension by taking slack, untying my original knot, then when I’m absolutely sure everything is correct, undoing the PAS and quickdraws before lowering. This way of cleaning ensures that you are attached in multiple points and never have to truly untie from the rope.

      @cameronline3780 Před 3 lety

      Watch videos but do not try to clean a route without seeking qualified instruction from either an experienced climber or a professional

  • @ericprice3355
    @ericprice3355 Před 3 lety

    I don't know how to lead climb or belay, are there ways to hike up to the top of the routes, rappel down from a tree, and set the anchors that way?

    • @courtclimbs
      @courtclimbs  Před 3 lety

      Short Answer: Not really. There are a couple of 25ft 5.4 routes that Mountain Project suggests as top ropes, but I have never personally climbed them so I’m not sure what the logistics are. I’d assume that you’d create a top rope anchor from the bolts at the top instead of trees. Long Answer: I’d recommend learning to lead (taking a class at a gym is a great option) belay and climb before going to the Red, or going with a group of people that you trust that are proficient lead climbers and belayers and they can climb the route and then set it up as a top rope for you. We’ve taken quite a few brand new climbers out and they’ve done this and it’s worked great! Of course this info is all based on my personal opinion, there may be top rope routes Im not aware of! Thanks for your question and for watching! 💛

    You mispronounced Ale-8-One.

    • @courtclimbs
      @courtclimbs  Před 3 lety +1

      I have always heard it pronounced without the “one”, but who knows, I’m not an expert haha

    • @richskater
      @richskater Před 2 lety

      Never heard anyone say it with the "one" either, lived here 15 years. Only thing I would say is it's more a Kentucky thing, not just the Red. Used to only be found in "mom & pop" type stores, but you're seeing it more in chain stores like Pilot, Love's, and even Walmart. Nowadays you can even find it in neighboring states near their KY border.
