This cover cost almost $275...if anyone wondering. But definitely beats looking at a cracked dashboard everyday
I wish my dash was only cracked. I live in Florida, the heat has literally melted my dash. It is sticky 24 / 7, everything gets stuck to it making it impossible to clean. During the day light hours the dash is very shiny which causes a reflection on my windshield of an image of the dash; making it hard to see important things like people biking or walking on the edge of the road way or a child who may dart into the road after a ball. OH AND Everytime morning when I first open the car door I have to air it out for 10 minutes (all windows down, ac full blast) before I will get into the car to drive due to the slight chemical smell.
I should have taken it to Nissan back in 2013 when I first noticed the problem, but I never dreamed it would get this bad.

@@kismyc0untryazz-491 iJust so you know, there was Nissan Altima class action lawsuit .. mine is a 2011 and it is cracking.. they knew about issues back in 2008 and didn't resolve this issue.. smh! Price went up to $450 now. Almost as expensive as a quality used one.
I live in South Florida, humidity and extreme heat (interior car temps ranging between 100-120 degrees) are the reasons why parts of my dashboard melted and fell off in small pieces. How much heat can this replacement resist, I read in one or your comments that a heat gun would help remove the replacement if needed, now, I don’t want to buy something that’s gonna pop off because of heat.
We have been selling these since 1982. If the dash is prepped and installed correctly you should have no problems. We do offer a lifetime warranty with this product, so if you do have an issue - we will exercise the warranty for the product.
hey I know this isn't exactly related to the dash cover but do you know how to get to the tweeters on the dash? I've looked everywhere and cant find anything about it.
I apologize but we are unfamiliar with how to get acces to the tweeters on the dash itself. Our covers can be removed if anything ever needs to be replaced on the dash. If our cover is damaged during this process let us know and we can send you a new dash via our warranty.

Have any tests been conducted on the functionality of the airbag cover? I'm concerned that it may impede the actual airbag and also the impact of the cover itself.
Yes the test have been done, and the airbag cover deploys back toward the windshield when the airbag is activated.

We made them ourselves using sand. You can use many different types of weight: books, big package of dried beans, ankle weights, etc.
If this is applied can the cd player be taken out if needed to be replaced?
Yes you can change out your CD player with our Coverlay dash cover installed. Our dash cover will not affect this.

@@dubb9020it's a year later so you probably don't need this answer but yes it melts terribly and don't even think about letting anyone put their feet on it. It will crack... BAD. Oh yeah and when it starts to crack, it'll also start to peel, hope this helps

Does this cover get in the way of removing the top vents / radio headunit?
I think there is a good chance that the dash cover will not get in your way, however, if you did need to remove - you could heat it up with a heat gun/hair dryer and if the cover is damaged during the process and cannot be re-installed, we would warranty that for you. I posted my experience with this cover on a sticky dash and see the comment is now hidden/removed. My comments explained the challenges installing this cover over a sticky/melting dash as well as the overall quality. Why were my comments deleted? I suppose I can post my experience elsewhere where they cannot be hidden?

***Attempting to post my experience again.***
I purchased this Coverlay dash cover and here is my experience. This dash cover looked like it could be a great solution to defective "sticky" dashboards but I was disappointed to find several issues installing it. The RTV silicone adhesive they include will not adhere to sticky melting dashboard so the dash cap will never really be "installed" well. I followed all the steps on this video (in fact I watched several videos from coverlay) as well as the included instructions. I cleaned everything with Windex and even sanded the dash and cover (based on a tip from the Coverlay rep). Then placed a bead of RTV silicone around the cover parameter and vent openings etc - exactly like this video. Clamping down is a real challenge! I took out the pillars, speakers, radio and middle vents so I could get better clamping access and options. In fact I spent a great amount of time during the trial fit and final fit getting the best clamping to keep everything in place. I read several people had issues with gaps and some areas popping up the next day and I didn't want that to happen to me so I was very particular about this step! The next day, I found the Coverlay dash cover would not stick anywhere very well. My best and tightest clamping failed, everywhere! The area around the radio fit perfect with Irwin clamps - not sticking the next day. Areas around the speakers and windshield were popping up.
Tried to fix a few areas again with Permatex Black RTV Silicone - placed the tip between the cover and dash and ran a few beads, then clamped again for 24 hours. The Permatex silicone seemed like it was holding better than the Coverlay supplied silicon, but mostly failed again. EXCEPT I noticed the cover stuck great to the plastic vents on the dash where there was enough overlap. I decided to run a bead around all the vents (right, left, both top oval vents and the long vents near the windshield) where ever there was some overlap ensuring the silicon bead hit the cover and some plastic area on the original dash - this stuck the dash cover down well enough to hold.
Another issue was the manufacturing cuts made around all the vents, etc. The edges around the vents for example are molded with a soft curve down to meet the dash for minimal gaps. But it appears these areas were cut by hand and are not cut even - in fact some areas were cut too aggressively leaving a large gap around the vents - especially the top oval vents on the drivers and passenger side. Looked terrible. I had to get creative and install a 3mm piping (filler strip) around the vents with black silicone shaped with my finger. Lots of other issues as well during the install such as the airbag cut out - I understand it's required but it easily could have been made to look so much nicer.
In the end, after multiple days trying different things I eventually was able to make it look OK as long as it holds in place - so the Coverlay dash cover is finally acceptable. But this was a lot of work mostly because the instructions are doomed to fail on melting dashboards - which is the specific reason people are purchasing this item!
Coverlay, based on my conversations with your reps over the phone it appears you know about the issues I described. The silicone you supply will not stick to one of these defective gooey dashboards. This is very expensive part ($350-400), please come up with a better installation process for sticky/melting dashboards and PLEASE conduct better quality control on your factory cuts around the vents. If these issues are addressed and resolved, the product could be an excellent option for owners of melting dashboards.
@@kathya4315 I'm very sorry you had so much trouble installing the dash cover. Your experience is not typical from the feedback we get at Coverlay - although dashes are different, so I'm not saying it hasn't happened to another customer. Generally the "stickiness" of the dash actually helps the dash cover adhere to the original dashboard. We have had some instances where customer's have used a lot of Armor All or other types of products on the dash prior to trying to clean and install a Coverlay product, and it presents some challenges. What if I need to remove it after putting the cover on?
You can use a hot blow dryer or heat gun to heat the dash cover up and then it can be removed. If it is damaged during this process and cannot be re-installed - we will warranty this product for you and send another one.
Will this effect the defrost
All defrost vents are open and not obstructed.
