The real lesson here is: don’t give up on your dreams! Even though we aren’t hand carving bowls with a rock, or tiny inlay pieces, we are still creative makers. It still takes imagination, planning, and a chunk of time. We are merely using the technology at hand. Electricity - motor -lathe. Computer- lazer - program. It’s all good and you are great! That looks "AWESOME" Mike. You've achieved this finish using your laser cutter, just imagine the grief that artisans in days of old had to go through to get a similar result. Every puzzle piece cut, precisely, by hand. I'm not trying to diminish what you've done, because defining the cutting file for the laser cutter can't have been easy in the first instance. You have to admire the craftsmen of days gone by.

I have a Pratt & Whitney engine medallion I always wanted to put on a belt buckle. My leather work isn't working out. I might have to go with wood. The belt portion will be fairly easy.

Thanks David, to be honest, in the year of planning it was all about the process and not the inlay design, so when I started to design it I had no idea what to do.
When the video first started, my heart sank a little bit. I felt like technolgy takes so much out of woodworking. But, when I saw the finished product, my mouth just hung open. That really is an amazing bowl.
Also - BTW - I just finished your brother's book. I reallly liked it.

The laser certainly provides a LOT of potential embellishments for future projects. Glad to see Creality finally enclosing the diode laser style. One day I may get one. At present I get more use out of my 3D printer than I may get out of a laser.
