great video: I would personally like to EMPHASIZE what he said about standing more forward at first. you want to absolutely avoid the foil flying up in front of you. I have several friends that have been cut in the face from this and atleast on with a permanent scar on his face. You should be wearing a helmet and face shield for the first several days. So, getting back to weight distribution, get more forward than you think. this will keep the board on the water. keep practicing this until you can ride on the water indefinitely. ONLY THEN do you VERY CAREFULLY slowly shift your weight back in tiny amounts until you can make the board rise out of the water ... but do not let the board decide this - you need to be controlling the board. Thanks Jake, great vid as usual.

On the footstraps, I found using a half-strap on the front-most inline setting to be helpful enough learning waterstarts while enabling safe release during crashes. On my board (Slingshot Converter) it's really forward, forcing me to drive my stance forward for that position, helping with your tip (which is so true, especially with a 'lifty' wing).

Great video Jake, you make it look so easy. Adjusting your weight fore & aft is so important to dialing that foil out of the water, & avoiding the jet take off. Any comments for users in terms of lateral stability? When the board is on water it's kind of like a twin tip, however most of us mortals aren't used to being elevated!

      What Is Islam?
Islam is not just another religion.
It is the same message preached by Moses, Jesus and Abraham.
Islam literally means ‘submission to God’ and it teaches us to have a direct relationship with God.
It reminds us that since God created us, no one should be worshipped except God alone.
It also teaches that God is nothing like a human being or like anything that we can imagine.
The concept of God is summarized in the Quran as:
{ “Say, He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He does not give birth, nor was He born, and there is nothing like Him.”} (Quran 112:1-4)
Becoming a Muslim is not turning your back to Jesus.
Rather it’s going back to the original teachings of Jesus and obeying him

Hey Jake. Love your vlogs. Great content and awesome cinematography/editing. I've been kiting for 10 years now and finally decided to get into foiling as well now. Just bought my first foiling gear from Levitaz as you suggested: Match + Cruiser and the 80cm mast. By the way, Levitaz is around the corner (1h drive) from where I live, so this was an obvious choice for me.
I'm really looking forward to getting into foiling. But I'm a bit afraid of crashes where the board rolls upside down such that you could fall onto the wings/mast and hurt yourself. I'll definitely wear a helmet and an impact west in the beginning. It would be super cool if you could create a video where you show how to behave in foil crashes such that you don't hurt yourself. Preventing crashes is of course even better, but as a beginner you simply know that you will have some epic wipeouts as part of your whole learning process...
    All the best from Austria

Amaaaaazing dude! Stoked for ya! Lucky guy having them just down the road! Good idea on the how to crash video as well. Just take your time with in and make sure to manage your speed. Speed usually equals to a bad crash. Keep me in the loop tho dude hope your enjoy it. Gotta come out to Antigua for some foil adventures soon! 🤙🏻

Hey Jake I just bought my first Wing foil Wing it's in the mail can't wait to start foil boarding I also have a 5 m wing and I'm mounting the foil on my old windsurfer - a minstrel explosion 9 and 1/2 ft. Love your lessons! there very straightforward and step by step. I'd love to do one of your week or two long lessons someday!

@@JakeKelsick If I were to take that trip, would there be things for my not kiting wife to do for a week? She loves tropical things, and paddle boarding, boogie boarding and exploring (and shopping- which may be misplaced in this list) . I live in NJ btw.
Today I took my wing out on my lake w a paddle board. Not really enough wind, to get it out past the lily pads I had to paddle with the 5 meter wing upside down on the back of the board (my foot stepping on the leash). I got a couple of rides, but without a center board it was hard to cut across the wing (like I did in the winter on the ice w the wing and a snowboard). THAT was fun! I got a run of 21 MPH even.
My low profile wing set is coming Monday, so I hope to raise my windsurfer out of the water soon! I look forward to going behind a boat for practice, then kiteboarding with the foil. I will keep watching your vids so i can learn good habits! In the meantime I will look up how easy it is to get to Antiqua from NJ. I just did, and there is a direct flight in September, and with hotel and a car it's only $630 per. Pretty sweet! I'll see what she thinks.
      God bless you, Jake!

Hey Jake nice video. I hope to learn how to kite surf here soon now that it is starting to warm up a little bit. Also if Sailing La Vagabonde come back to Antigua at some point you should teach them how to kite surf and teach Lenny how to kite surf if he is old enough. Also if your ever in Charleston South Carolina I would love to go kite surfing with you and take you wake boarding of surfing if you would like. Hope all is well with you

Jake, in my view the best way to carry a foil by far is with the mast resting on your shoulder, the board behind you and holding on to the back of the front wing. Only one hand required, the other hand is free to carry other stuff. Try it. (I enjoy your videos, especially about foiling, keep it up). James K.

Thanks Jake, good tips! Is there a guide to how much smaller the kite should be when riding the foil compared to riding a directional board in the same wind strength? So if I ride a 10-11 in 15-20kn should I ride a 7-8 on foil?

    • @JakeKelsick
      @JakeKelsick  Před 5 lety

Good question man. I'd say this is sort of a personal preference. The better you get on the foil is the smaller kite you can use but in general, you can always size down a meter or two. But really I see foiling as the go-to for light wind days on a windy day it's almost always more fun on a twin tip whereas on a light wind day is ALWAYS more fun on a foil.

nice vid .... however, you need to clarify kite position "keep the kite at 1, 2, 3 o'clock".... assuming you're riding to the right.
kite can be at those positions at the edge of the wind window, neutral zone or power zone. should relative to the surface of the water, ie, water surface is 0 degrees, edge of the wind window is 90 degrees, so somewhere between 60 and 80 degrees ... my 2¢

Seems the instructor has forgotten what it was like to learn. I would say that, by far, the most important tip for beginners is to start with the board heading downwind rather than edging against the kite like with a twin tip.
