ive lived in japan and its common to see junk yards filled with famous jdm cars because most people in japan want fuel efficient cars with small engines to save money. Those famous turbocharged jdm cars just cost to much for most people to want to keep them so they just junk them.

It would be good to keep other cars alive. Sometimes one must be sacrificed to keep others going. Ultimately that’s what happens with the worst condition jdm cars, cut up and sold as body panels.

I remember reading an article in the 80's about performance cars in Japan. After a couple of years, the cost of keeping one on the road became exorbitant. So, people just parked them up and left them.
The Japanese government offers huge tax benefits on small and micro car purchases, especially in the cities.

@AimanLomala 3 years after purchase, all new cars in Japan have to go through an expensive inspection. This has to be done every two years until the car is 10 years old. Then, it has to be inspected annually. Because of this, owners usually write them off, i.e., they deregister them, to avoid taxes on them.
Even if a car is not roadworthy, if it's still registered in Japan, its owner will still have to pay taxes for it. This is why the cars in the video are abandoned. To sell them, the owners would have to reregister them. The cost of that is a lot more than they would get for the car. So, they're just left to rot.

Ill explain...These clips are from Fukushima, In 2011 there was tsunami what destroyed an nuclear power plant making the whole city uninhabitable. Its quite same to Chernobyl but less radioactive. And yes you can take these beauties to home but seriously you don't wanna have a radioactive car. Its not possible to clear a car from this😔😔

@shattered831 Flood damage is nothing. Pull the drain plugs on the framerails and hit it with a blast of air, pull the fender liners off, and don't turn anything on until it is all dried out. It will be fine.
As far as them being "common" over there? Yeah... they're still very rare, just not as bad as over here. I'd GLADLY pay $60k for a REAL Supra vs. the left-hand crap we got here.
@@CaramelColored it’s more of an electronics issue but if you were gonna do a full harness swap and strip it bare it wouldn’t really matter anyway. But to them it’s just kind of another car, kind of like a barn finding an old Buick for us. But yeah if I had the chance to grab one up ild be on it, not the r32 but the others deff. And there in probably some value in the 32 still as well.
@shattered831 You wouldn't need to replace the entire harness. The insulation of the wires keeps them protected. At most you'd just need to unplug every wire and shoot it with some WD-40 and it will be fine. That, and replace the ECU.

There’s something somber about the fact that just a decade or so ago, these were just junk over there. People that bought them new moved on with their lives, got newer cars when these broke down, had families, and little did they know, there’d be those of us out there paying 10-50k for these things now, even in bad condition.
Even here in the UK, these things were cheap when I was a teenager, people would just run them into the ground, scrap them and replace them over and over.
As a japanese, this fact is make me sad.
These phenomena are called "old car bullying" and are caused by the difference in perception between the government and car owners.
And The reason why owners of old cars end up doing this is often because they can't bear the car tax, exhaust gas regulations, gasoline tax, etc. so they have no choice but to do it.

Firstly, I think that this issue is not related to the Great East Japan Earthquake and other disasters. while my area hasn't been affected by any disasters, there are several JDM cars, including the Mk4 Toyota Supra, Toyota Starlet, Honda Integra Type R, and Nissan R32, abandoned in my neighborhood for over 10 years. I believe the key factor contributing to this issue is the Japanese automobile system, particularly the rise in automobile taxes such as the weight tax imposed after 13 to 18 years of production. If there were other reasons, it might simply be that Japan is in a recession and in our increasingly complex modern society, both consumers and corporations no longer value old cars like JDM car as much.
