      use levels rather than a filter/minimum. you have more control over the positive/negative and mid tones.
      additionally, if you have a stronger divergence, you can actually use the background delete tool. great for logos with simple colors

    I think an easier solution is just using layer styles and having an alpha mask on grey (or blue would work on your image since it's mostly red) and then just alt clicking the sliders. This is non-destructive too 😊

    • @diremirebee
      @diremirebee Před 4 měsíci +66

      It’s not usually a long obscure process, this guy just made it really over complicated. Probably cause “click this button” doesn’t make for a full YT short, a lot of other ‘tip’ videos are like this.
      Wording might be different in photoshop, but in CSP you just change the area scaling number which takes half a second. Or hell even just doing the tolerance part works lol, the mask is completely unnecessary.

    • @joed180
      @joed180 Před 4 měsíci +10

      Well the automated feature is to use select all and choose “remove background” from the pop-up toolbar. … Then, ctrl-click the layer and invert the selection. Choose “generate” from the pop up toolbar and type “lemur party” and click Generate. You’re welcome.

    • @witcherhr

    Select>Color range is also excellent in this case as it also creates soft selections where there is color contamination (for example around the edges where the pixels may be 50% red 50% white).
    The problem is that it is not Contiguous therefore it selects throughout the entire image, so after selecting you may have to deselect some areas of interest that were not suposed to be selected. Or do a preselection with the magic wand, then use Color Range after

      Its just because it doesnt work on smaller selections as well. If you are for example selecting out text and its a smaller weight you cant realistically give up that much space from your shape. I would rather approach it by masking out the background using layer styles but either his or that work better than uping a selection for more situations. Hope thise helps :)

    If it's just a mono-coloured decal or design, after getting the mask you can also just fill in the background with that colour instead of doing too much and risk cutting into and losing features of the design. Even if there are a few colours, solid colours are easy enough to deal with.
    Dirdling too much with filters can risk you losing certain sharper features of your design, such as sharp points.

    For a PERFECT background removal when there's a solid color around the edges, first copy the layer, turn it grayscale, use the tone curve so the gray becomes black, fill every other color with black so you have a nice silhouette of the subject, do white to alpha (or invert colors and do black to alpha), apply it as a mask to the original layer and then paint the edges of the original layer
    This will extrude the color around the edges while perfectly retaining the exact shape of the subject
