The Xicoy has completely changed the plane!! 20 flights on it now and gets better every flight
Thanks again Jonathan for all your help!
You've been a busy boy! Glad I got to be there for the re-maiden. I'd love to see it again once you open it up!
😎🙌
It sounds more like a jet then a turboprop. Beautiful plane
She is a beauty! Thanks for watching!
Spectacular! That thing absolutely wails!!! 👏👏👏🍻
Yes it does! You should see it now that it's turned up!😳
What a absolute beauty!!! Congratulations on a amazing build and flight
Thanks a lot!
Oh that sound is so sweet.... And that plane looks just so solid in the air. Very envious. Great video mate!
Thanks Adrian! The owner is very happy with the final outcome!
Absolutely incredible! Some times there just arent good enough words. Amazing work, flight, and landing!
Couldn't agree more! Thanks David!
Great job guys! Love that sound.
Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching Scott!
That noise is so amazing! Great flight!
😎🙌
That turboprop sound must be one of the best in the business. Makes my skin tingle like I’m listening to a Led Zeppelin guitar riff.
Oh yea! Great comparison!
That sound is incredible
Sweet Sweet Turbo Prop!
Very nice model, and very good flying. Sounds so sweet! Well done from an RC flyer across the pond.
Many thanks James!
Lovely sound on that turbo prop!
Thanks 😊 she’s a beauty!
Incredible landing!
😎🙌
That's wicked boys! Thanks for the awesome videos!
Thanks for watching!
Woow, the great rcplane, satisfaction cannot be replaced by anything my friend. Good job
Thanks!😊
Great Plane, great Engine and great flight
Thanks 😊
What a brilliant maiden with a butter landing. Engine and variable prop is crazy fast and sounds orsum👍🏻
Thanks 😊
That is an insane cool engine ! Love turboprops. Very nice plane also ... i enjoyed viewing this a lot.
Thanks for watching!😊
Brilliant maiden and aircraft
🙌😎
That was a nice landing!
Yes it was! Great Re-Maiden by Steve!
Great plane and great flight😄👍
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
Love it with the Ramoser Varioprop!
It's a great combo!
Super very nice Power
Thank you
Great flight what a sound my favourite engine turbo prop xo...
Indeed it is! Great Combo all around!
Landing reminds me of the first time I buddy boxed back in the 90s at the age of 12. I yelled "yeah first time" and threw my arms up looking around at all the old guys who were just telling me it was going to take many flights to learn. They looked at me then turned and mumbled going back to what they were doing. Needless to say they didn't like that and my dad said "they didn't like that, you shouldn't have yelled out" but I was so excited and normally I never did that sort of thing. Ended up buying a park flyer and teaching myself.
Thanks Chris! Great comment! I can't stand that mentality in this hobby that you mentioned with the old timers and the young ones. They exist everywhere and that mentality of it's too hard or complicated and it took me this long so you should do the same is rubbish! We should be happy with peoples progress weather it's 1 day or 10 years. We fly TOYS in the sky. Thanks for watching!
@@thelightersideofrc Yeah I think they enjoyed the exclusivity of it back then. Things are much more accessible now and best of all cheaper while being more reliable products. I didn't say it before but text book landing :)
Damn!!!!! Like butter!!!!
YEA!
Nice flight
Thanks Frank! Steve did great and was very happy!
My boy and I were there for the engine test, so great to see it in the air!! Can't wait to see it in person, maybe this weekend?
Howdy Mark! Steve will be at the BAWLF Event (Albertas Littlest Airport). With the amount he has been flying this thing i'm sure he will get it up tons this weekend!
Sounds just like a pc21. Incredible. What a time to be alive!
No kidding hey! Such cool Tech!
Nice!
Thanks Dean!
Very nice plane, congratulations from Remi, Belgium
Thanks Remi! Steve is very pleased with it!
very nice!
Thanks
I dream about getting to learn flying a turbo prop aircraft. EDF's is all we have around here in western mass. That turbo prop is a work of art! Seriously!
Thanks Bob. Yea they are next level cool for sure! The owner is very happy!
People who say money can’t buy happiness should see this video
HAHA!😂
People who say that, don't know where to shop....;)
😂😂
That thing is sweet 👍👍
She is POWERFUL! Even more so now that it's turned up!
Awesome
Are we just going to ignore the majestic as F landing?! Good Job Steve! Good Camera Man Also!
It is a Beaty to fly, makes a guy flying look good!!
You got that right! 😎
Kool stuff
😎
Coolest thing I found on the internet today.
Sweet 😎 thanks
Turbo prop is pretty cool
Agreed! Turboprops really haven’t done anything for me this is the first one that has
@@thelightersideofrc just the fact that it’s in an RC is all kinds of cool
Nice i want one of that
Just went live on the website!
Sick AF
Thanks!😎
Well,I'm sold on the tubro prop...not too sure over a jet either lol. Not sure how it sounded before, but it's a wake now...sounds awesome ! NICE Maiden 😉
She’s a beautiful piece of work! Thanks for watching!
I flew the plane the entire first flights at the manufacturer’s recommended reduced RPM of 201 k for the full 1 hour flight time and still flying at slightly reduced RPM to be safe, very strong turbine!
Hi Steve which gearbox ratio did you go with LR or HR? Incredible performance
@@theoavana that is a LR version, 8000 RPM
It is awesome!!
@@stevemorgan5684 thanks.. it’s definitely punching well above its size. I’m trying to settle on a model for one myself 👌
😎
Im so impressed with that Xicoy turbine. Great job , and i like that prop that you used as well. Sexy Plane -enjoy.
Steve has been flying the crap out of this thing! Loving every minute of it!
Fantastic just made sure you reinforce the rotation pins in the fuse and the wing ,if not will tear off the wing , well done on the motor.
Thanks!
Is that a thing? Had a wing failure a couple of years back on one of these...
The question is though, what condition did it fail in? Was it G overload or flutter related? It could easily be abuse that causes the failure and not poor structure.
@@stewartgrant9832 Thanks Stewart the front pins fell out at the leading edge ,no glue or not enough glue.Mine got replace under warranty. Now I have put in bolts at front and back of the wing ,works well.
Amazing, what a difference compared to the video were it was powered with the Wren! Congrats and many happy flights (and landings).
SO Different Hey!
Way to go Jet Mechanic awesome install she is Fast plane . The owner had the Biggest Smile you can Make. That motor be Sweet and Cool in a P-51 Mustang. One more Home Run for you Jonathan. How the New House working
Thanks Greg! Steve was very happy! New house is progressing nicely!!!!
Nice stuff...got to be careful of a prop strike...
For sure
Didn't see the video with the other engine. awesome machine, kudos to the pilot. I would love to have that plane in my stable but I need to brush up on my stick skills first and bank account LOL!
Thank you very much! Steve is absolutely loving this thing!
Props! (Pun intended;) )
HAHA. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for demonstrating how a test flight should be done. Good weather. Checks on the ground buttoned up. Taxi checks done. Acceleration straight and climb to a safe height at safe handling speed while trimming, gear away early incase of engine failure, moderate speed and once rates and trim explored, some mild aeros. Alarm set so no previous distraction with fuel level guessing. Pop the gear, check trim, flap, check trim. Stabilized approach to achieve safe touchdown. Home for tea and medals.
Thanks Stewart! That’s exactly it! 😊
❤️❤️
😎🙌

👏👏👏
😎
Beautiful plane and cool landing for a maiden or let’s say re-maiden, right?…this jet engine is great 👍
Yea, re maiden is probably the best term!
Would be pretty awesome to make a long range fpv rig with a turbo prop
That would be cool!
Maybe you snuck one in that I didn't notice but, I would have loved to see at least one full throttle pass.
Awesome power and very nice flying model with that combo.
Thanks! If you watch the Sask compilation Video I think there is some full throttle runs in there!
@@thelightersideofrc Awesome! Thanks, I will have a look in a while. If it was only half throttle here I can only imagine insanity at full throttle. I love it, I haven't got anywhere nearby where I am stuck for at least the next few years where I can fly anything but bloody electric models. When I eventually get back to my home territory it'll be out with the glow fueled and petrol engined models and finally get a turbine for a large jet I've got sitting waiting for one. I do love this turbo prop setup but probably won't get one of these as maintenance on a turbine will be enough of an issue for me, let alone one with a reduction gearbox as well. I am extremely impressed by these turbo prop units though.
Congrats on the maiden!!! Thanks for the great content and what an awesome plane! I don’t think RC can get any better than that! The sound is just incredible! What an impressive engine!
Love your videos and the quality is just awesome! Just wondered what camera you use?
Thanks so much for the kind comments and for watching! Most of my videos from the past year have been recorded on a DJI Osmo Pocket. Great camera but for flight video's it's not so great as it lacks any zoom. benefit is it's smooth. Recently I have purchased a Cannon G7X Mark 3. Still figuring it out but I do like it and quality and zoom is better.
@@thelightersideofrc Thanks so much for the response! I did wonder about flight videos with the Osmo pocket but the footage still looks great on your channel even without the zoom. The G7X MKiii is supposed to be a great camera, can’t wait to see your future flight videos with it!
Thanks 😊
Well done subscribe bruhhh nice rc plane 🔥🔥🔥👍👍👍
Thanks for the sub
@@thelightersideofrc my pleasure bruhhh ✌✌
✋... Super+++
🙌😎
I love that turboprop engine. I wonder if it would fit a Rodell Modell PC-9 which is just a tad smaller than the PC-21 from Sebart. 10cm less wingspan and 1kg lighter might be a tight fit but worth the try. Rodell PC-9 was to be equipped with a 35cm3 OS-BGX-1 or similar engine and they come at 1.4kg without muffler, so maybe about 1,6kg with pipe and attachements. Not far off the 1,8kg of the Xicoy Turboprop.
They are pretty unique for sure! Lots of fun and great sound!
Theo: The Xicoy gearbox is the LR version turning @ 8k RPM, the RPM will be reduced to 7500 k RPM max as per Vario prop restrictions.
👍
Hi Steve,
I just bought the same Sebart PC21, awsome plane and I'll put in the xicoy :) Which diameter of prop do you use?
Thanks for your answer.
@@schouberfouer that is the 18.2" dia 5 blade Vario prop
Jeezuz !! is there any better sound than a turbo prop starting up.. nope.. didnt think so !!
HAHA. No kidding Brandon!
Awesonme bud! When you come to Bc or pemberton?
If princeton fall event happen's i'll be there!
Need some Sky Candy LEDs on her...!!
Oh YEA! I agree! @steve morgan Get on it!
Superb! Absolutely awesome, but please don't have anyone in front of the prop, if a blade let's go someone could be wearing it.
Good tip! Thanks for watching!
congratulation, perfect flight, scale sound, bravo! can you tell my abot the manufacturer of the RC PC 21 Airplain ? thanx and ciao from Switzerland, Claudio
Thanks Claudio! Steve has put near 40 to 50 flights on the plane now and is very happy with the engine/aircraft combo. This kit is a Sebart PC-21 XL. It's designed to be an electric setup but I converted it a couple years ago. We have a Skymaster PC-21 Coming to the channel very soon!😎
What propeller is that? Plane flies perfect! Would like this setup for the kingair I’m building
Ryan, that is a 18.2” Vario prop. Works awesome
I was wondering if the throttle stick controls just the pitch of the blades, with some sort of governor managing the turbine to keep the prop at a constant RPM? Are there separate controls for turbine RPM and prop pitch? I guess my question is how the hell does that work haha. Awesome channel BTW, recently subbed 👍
Hello Tommy! The blades are set to a fixed pitch but are adjustable (not in flight). The throttle stick only controls the power setting on the engine. Thanks for watching and subbing!😊
I'm glad I gave up R/C a while back... I'd be divorced and broke by now! So many cool toys...
HAHA! Nice! Thanks for watching!
What a performance! And in the hands of a pro?
Steve did a great job on the Remaiden! Such a different aircraft with the new powerplant!
Does anyone know the correct way to compare the power output of these to the thrust from a jet? I know it probably depends on the prop etc etc but if there’s a standardised way let me know
Wish I could answer your question Jack.
Darn. Now I have to convert mine too....
Just Call the Jet Mechanic
Such a great little engine!
@@thelightersideofrc yes it is BUT You have to Have the Best Mechanic to install It. Sorry Jonathan just Telling the Truth this Mechanic is the Best I seen on CZcams. Hope you don’t mind Jonathan !
Haha. Thanks Gregory 😊
She's a screamer!
Oh Yea!
Spell Xicoy like "chicoy" (that's what it is pronounced in Spanish) and Gaspar will freak out 👍
😂
Thats a very nice model and setup. Is it normal for the PC-21 to have such short front leg? I feel like its very small margins before the prop hits the ground on taxing?
Yea it's a bit of an odd plane. Because the tail rises up it also has that look that the plane is nosing down all the time. The Leg is short. On The Most recent one we built on the channel (Skymaster PC-21) has a better front leg setup.
Where did you get the spinner for your prop? I have vario prop blades, but don’t have a spinner as of yet for my A-29.
The prop came together blades and spinner from Vario
@@stevemorgan5684 I got one for my A-29 as well, but it’s too long. Too pointy. I guess Tru Turn is the next option.
With an airplane platform like that you could design a cockpit to mimick the real plane, and have a perfect pilot trainer plane without having people in jeopardy.
True.
Balance point is close to the CofG
Yea it was perfectly neutral when he went inverted!
What is the gearbox reducing the shaft RPM to...what turbine shaft to prop shaft ratio?
There is no direct connection between the turbine and the gearbox. I'm not sure of the gear ratio but this gearbox is the higher RPM model so it will max out at 8000 rpm with the turbine at 225000 rpm. This is all subject to prop diam and pitch.
Awesome flight and engine. Is it a Ramoser - Prop from Germany?
Thanks! This engine is a Xicoy X45TP and the prop is a Vario
@@thelightersideofrc O.k. I‘ll choose a dicey 45 for my 2,8 m PILATUS PORTER TOO. Currently I make the moulds for this full-GFK plane with rivet-look. The first prototype will be powered with a ROTO 35.
You are such a busy man and like I was 30 years ago. Look CZcams „Dr. Wilfried Hitzler“. I produced the first 2,5 scale glider in series. This started the big scale Epoche in Europe.
Does the variable prop adjust pitch with rpm automatically?
The prop is fixed in flight. Just adjustable pitch then fix it in place.
Is the prop pitch adjustable by radio, or is it external only?
External only.
Question: i have a friend with same plane and he has to turn the plane inverted in order to retracts go in, did you do anything to landing gear ? It is electric ? Or air retract?
Thanks
Hello Gerardo! Yea this kit comes standard with Air retracts and they are garbage. This aircraft when ordered was built with JP Electric Retracts. They have their own issues but at least you don't need to invert the plane to make them work. The Air retracts that are supplied with the kit have a very small air cylinder which I believe is where the problem stems from.
Thanks for the information, i am planning to buy the jet and i was thinking to replace them with electric retracts. Do you think i could replace the cylinders for bigger ones with out problems?
Btw your channel is awesome 👌
I think trying to change the original cylinders to larger will not be possible. The overall design of the retracts wont allow it. I would plan on going electric! Thanks for watching!
Variable pitch prop? Can you change the pitch in flight?
Yea it's a Variable pitch prop but not changeable in flight.
Sits nose down on the ground, can you shorten the mains or lengthen the nose gear?
It’s a bit of an optical illusion on the PC21. Mains have been softened. If you search up some full scale pics it has that look too.
@@thelightersideofrc yeah you're right now that I check it out, the 9s were a bit like it too, the higher tail makes it look exaggerated.
Is there a time and place for spectators to watch some of these bigs guys at that field?
Got to be there for this day. It was a sight to behold for sure!
Yea your welcome any time!
About a minute in I got a freaking ad. Bailed.
Ooooo. You missed out! Thanks for visiting anyways!
Actual aircraft don't rely on batteries for avionics, telemetry,
or ignition. They usually use an APU.
Could an aircraft turbine be scaled down even further, to
then be paired with a generator?
Could a generator be fabricated to install to (couple) the shaft
of the primary turbine?
Has anyone ever built or manufactured a tiny generator? Not some
cheap LED running thing, but an actual device that mimics the
output of your RC battery pack? Maybe not to fully replace, but
to recharge would be fantastic. Just use the battery to spread out
the load.
What is the combined system electricity requirement of this plane?
I'd think you'd want a comfortable safety margin of at least a 1.5 overrun
reserve capacity, so as not to tax the system. A decent magneto, like
a riding mower/snowmobile uses, just smaller.
Fabricate actual wing fuel tanks?
Larger, Commercial aircraft have fuel bladders in the wings.
Flight time could be measured by fuel, instead of mAh of a battery.
I can imagine an actual scaled down version of a decent Cessna
would be cost prohibitive, but still under the cost of an actual plane ($30k)
Great comments and questions. A few years back, jetcat cameout with a generator on their turbines. Basically the starter motor on the front of the turbine doubles as a generator. Uses magnets to Spin the starter motor/generator.
Only available on their larger engine but essentially you eliminate battery charging
@@thelightersideofrc I'd love to see a few CZcams Creators
get their skills together, manufacture my ideas.
Keith Fenner/Abom79 for Machinists
BigClive and Aaron Cake for electronics
The Lighter Side of RC/FliteTest for the aircraft (mods)
I guess I'm just a stupid old man with pipe dreams.
Dreams are where the fun stuff comes from!
Awesome building, nice flight, GREAT landing, the video..........could have been cut by 70%. Not fun to see a black spot 2km away.
Thanks! Yea some want to see the whole thing and some don't! Thankfully we have fast forward!
@@thelightersideofrc Still, great project and landing was just perfect well done!
What kinda flight times can a turbine rc get?
all depends on fuel load. Fuel is heavy. Most aircraft are in the range of 6-8 min is pretty typical.
What are the biggest differences between the xicoy and the wren?
Wren is old Tech. New Turboprops such as the xicoy seem to be built better and more attention has been spent on rigidity in the system and gearbox design.
@@thelightersideofrc Interesting. Thanks! I don't suppose any of these are up for UAV duty are they? The 25hr service interval is pretty short
Hope that nose leg is indestructible.
Me too!
Is it normal for it to be so nose down while taxiing?
The PC-21 is a bit of a weird looking airplane from a side profile. If you pull up a picture of the full scale, because of the cockpit orientation along with other lines on the plane, it looks like it's got a nose down attitude. The owner has stiffened up the front strut to help with this as in stock form it's too soft.
Is it me or is this plane not getting the full potential of the Xicoy turboprop...? It just seems to be laging in power..! It could also be the filming though, as I have seen camera effect on many flights that the camera seemed to make the true flight seem as though it was going slower than reality... Anyway nice plane...!
She was moving really well. This is a great combo and the has gobs of power. Always hard to show that on camera
Keep camera on the airplane
I try but I fail.
these dont even need to take off that fast do they?
No not at all. With the large wing and light plane they come off easy.
I can’t believe how quiet it is…
Yea it really is! It’s quieter than a gasser prop plane or a turbine. It’s almost in between electric and gas prop.
Lol. It’s more complex then the plane I fly.
Haha 😆
