      Then they need to pay for that inspection, not expect it for free. If you go to a restaurant you dont expect free desert because you bought an appetizer. average multi point inspection should cost around 90 dollars and actually be thorough. Very thorough. Problem is we work in an industry where everyone expects the tech to tell them everything about their car because they bought an oil change. In addition that tech only makes 0.3 of an hour on an oil change. That's about $6. It takes 30 minutes to do a proper inspection (by the way most places want pictures and videos) about 15 minutrs to do an oil change, about 15 to deal with the service advisor, and 10 minutes waiting on parts from parts experst who font know 5w-20 from 0w-20. Which means the tech make about $5.80 an hour if they do there job right. Nobody is going to do that, so shortcuts are encouraged or you get people who don't know much about anything.

    • @r3alfish
      @r3alfish Před 5 lety +32

      Also, yes some oil change places and some dealerships will recommend things you don't need, however, if they're recommending that you do something and they're honest and showing you why they're recommending it then it's not just to keep you there or spend your money, it's preventative maintenance normally. Had a customer get mad at us just a few days for recommending a timing belt and water pump replacement at 150k miles the other day. What they don't realize is they'll spend much more if that timing belt or water pump fails. Their car is getting more miles on it and they've had it serviced there since new and they think we are just trying to get them to spend more money unnecessarily when we are really just trying to keep their car on the road reliably.

Just sat the box down started it and drove out and parked it and went to get a new air filter. That truck ate them leaves. I asked one guy if they ever had a car pull out without oil he said happens all the time. You yell at the service writer to give some of the ROs to the techs who should help out but some of them are too good to do oil changes. Then when you have to use the bathroom oh man get ready for being yelled at some more. Oh how i dont miss working at dealerships.
