    Bharatnatyam is more fiery (which makes sense, since it is connected with the element of fire), while Odissi is more connected with the flowing movements of water. Other classical dances include Kuchipudi (connected with the element of earth), Mohiniyattam (connected to the element of air) and Kathakali, which is connected with the sky. If you watch them all, you can see the difference in the style and movements.
    Hope that was helpful!

      Bharatanatyam goes on...and on...and on...if you watch the performances its like a marathon because the story is typically so long. Odissi is much more nice to watch, and is also more feminine.

    Such an absolulely gorgeous and talented artist. I bow to her and touch her lotus blossom feet. I love odissi not only for it's conection to the apsaras of the temples but for the use of the pakawaj betowing upon it a certain dignity and regalness. I would like to know, from someone better informed than the Bruha(wich in spanish)able, the reason for the change in costume over the last 20 years or so. What happened to the dhoti like (fishtail sari?) and short choli?

    In Odissi, the dancer uses her waist a lot. Her movements are very fluid, soft, delicate, like flowing water. Look at the way the wrist, waist, hips, neck, and arms move.

    I was just trying to explain the difference to the best of my ability.
    Kathak itself is a later Indian dance; it has more Persian influence than anything else. As for Manipuri and sattriya, while Sattriya may be closer to more "Indian" styles of dance, both are from an area far removed from the areas where dances like Odissi and Bharatnatyam were created. I'm not trying to leave them out; they are just from a different, but equally rich and beautiful culture.

    • @siddharthsharma9836
      @siddharthsharma9836 Před 7 lety +3

      Kathak too originated in temples, if u know there are 3 gharanas of kathak, in which lucknow gharana only has persian influence, rest two are purely indian.

    She is not a odissi dancer. She is a bharatnatyam dancer. Bcos her expressions and makeup style is of bharatnatyam. Odissi makeup is too different from this. Bengapatia is too short and it is of bharatnatyam. Hairstyle is also like bharatnatyam. Her whole thing is like bharatnatyam. I am a odissi dancer that's why I can know what is the mistake in in the dancing style and make up style. So plz don't insult the dance form. It is a request to all from my side. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
