Sounded like your spring jumped out of the hole you originally put it in when you were trying to preload the sheave. You might want to disassemble it and check it.

So my screws broke does that mean I need a new clutch
Replace in the buttons what does that do sweet smoother engagement quicker response or response what does that exactly do thanks
I think my clutches r messed up on my 2004 polaris ranger 500. It's chewing up belts real quick. It also makes a loud squeal
Is this the same on a 6x6?
Do you know if worn buttons and a damaged helix can cause the quad to have trouble making it up a hill.

@@shady4598 it must cause it to not go uphill because I just replaced the buttons and filed the helix and it is riding uphill alot better.
