    Way to go! As someone new to the brand, I was treated respectfully but I also waited until every person a head of me with a relationship with my dealer turned down the allocation… from deposit to receiving my 911 C2S manual was just over 26 months. It was worth the wait but I’m glad your wait wasn’t as long. In a lot of ways it’s a matter of luck and timing. I will say that in my case my dealer sold me the car at MSRP and with absolutely no extra stipulations which I appreciated. I took delivery of my car in early May and I already have 3,200 miles. I love it!

      Congrats on your new 911! Glad I received mine so quickly, but wouldn't have been upset if I had to wait the 24 months either. Life is all about the journey, and just being in line put a huge smile on my face.
      3,200 miles, glad to hear that you've really been enjoying it! Did you wait the entire 1,875 miles before exceeding 4200 RPM? I'm struggling to keep the revs low as I'm only at 600 miles.

    Always loved engineering and cars. AMG enthusiast.
    Love the Porsche brand. Last year walked into a dealership in Louisiana and test drove a 2L 718, kept in contact with the crew. Got a call last month saying if I need to build a 718 gts 4.0 they have 2 allocations. Was excited but I prefer GT4 even if I’ll only get a used one.
    Walked into my local dealership in my current state and just based on my enthusiasm they wanted me to buy GTS 4.0 but I told them I am waiting for a GT4 with reasonable pricing. Following week got a call saying I’ll be number one on list for GT4RS with allocation from Porsche pending.
    Shocked and asked why. She said you live closer. I do live closer. Never bought a Porsche and when I went into that dealer I drove my 2023 V8 C63s which is the last V8 to roll off AMG plant (I personally built it and picked it up this Jan).
    I told the dealer, I’m not materialistic and if I don’t drive a Porsche GT I’m cool. That being said, I’m a petrol head with extensive background in owning AMGs.
    Let your enthusiasm shine through and dealerships will know. They want people who will drive and have fun and not people who want to flip cars for profits.
    Waiting on my GT4RS - with a markup fee. Smh

      Sounds like you had a great experience. Congrats on the GT4RS allocation! Interested in your thoughts on the AMG GT and if you've test driven one of those. I've heard that Porsche is the ultimate track car but I also wanted to look into the AMG GT in comparison to the GT4 (non-RS).

    • @bn8530
      @bn8530 Před 21 dnem +1

      Yes I have driven one but never owned one. GT4 and AMG GT (the GTC) are comparable in performance but different experience. There is the GTS, GTC and GTR and black series.
      I drove a GTC and it’s refined yet very track ready if you get the camber on point. I think it’s best for, as the name suggests a Grand Tourer, Fast and comfortable. The GT Benz are just timeless because no other car has that silhouette. So get it just for that. It’s like the SLS - timeless. Remember MB had stuff in their car 30 years ago when other cars are only just now making.
      But if you can get a AMG GTR go for it.
      I’m in Maryland. More than happy to meet fellow petrol heads.

    I just bought a new 2024 911 Carrera T with no allocation, just researching what was available through Porsche dealerships nationwide. I live in TX and ended up buying a well optioned 911 T from CA.
    There was an ADM, however if I purchased dealer offered options, e.g. additional maintenance pkgs, a watch, or e-bike, that would negate the ADM from MSRP. I chose their full PPF/Ceramic pkg (Xpel) and added 7 yr wheel and tire protection with a discounted price. I was going to purchase these regardless.
    Update: I bought my car in June there were 25 Carrera T’s a available at the time. Today there are only 4 nationwide. Glad I pulled the trigger when I did. No regrets, it’s an awesome car.

    Allocation games are so dumb. My time is worth a lot more than greasing up a dealership. As consumers, we need to reject these shady practices that create a false sense of scarcity because a dealer network wants to line their pockets by robbing the consumer.

    • @Engineerdreamsofficial
      @Engineerdreamsofficial  Před 13 dny

      For me it seemed more like a "set it and forget it" scenario. Get on the list, continue living life, and they call when you're up. Truth be told, the scarcity come from the factory and rolls down the dealers. If each year Porsche produced more than 50k 911s worldwide, there would be more supply for everyone.

    Your perspective is good. It is about the journey. And because I had to wait so long, I had a lot of time to really study and understand options. For that reason I was able to really know what I wanted. The result is that there’s nothing about my car is change today. Seriously, it’s exactly the way I would want it. In the end the only thing I didn’t get as my build locked was a PTS. I really wanted Meissen Blue but a PTS slot wasn’t in the cards. From there I too wanted Aventurine Green but just like you that had been removed from the color chart. My salesman said I could wait for a PTS allocation or keep this one and choose another color. That was a no brainer, I chose Arctic Grey which I’ve turned out to really love. As for the miles and break-in. Yes, I did follow the recommended break-in and kept my miles at or below 4K. A couple of times I had a miss shift (because of my manual) and I did blip it above that. But not intentionally and not severe. The funny thing is that my dealership told me to ignore that and so did a friend who has been in the brand for a long time. However, I have another friend who is super into Porsche and had had nine 911’s since 1972. He’s also a national concourse judge for Porsche. He is a purist and his advice was to do what Porsche themselves say should be done - that’s the advice I took. Yes, at times it was hard but in the end I know how my car has been treated and that’s part of the joy of being the first owner.

    Stopped by a dealership yesterday and they told me it was about a 2 yr wait on a 911 but mentioned that the $2500 non-refundable deposit was required for the order and then once the allocation took place 10% of the purchase price (non-refundable) was required. Sounds like this was not the path you had to take?

    • @Engineerdreamsofficial
      @Engineerdreamsofficial  Před 19 dny +2

      wow that is slightly different than my experience. I was also told it would be a 2yr wait but that the deposit wasn't required until I actually got the allocation in 2 years. The purpose of the deposit was to "lock in" the production spot. They didn't mention if it would be non-refundable but I didn't ask either because it wasn't due until the allocation was granted. I also didn't have to put down 10%. Perhaps its because I brought my own financing. I'm going to do the next video on the financing portion of my experience.

    Thanks for sharing that process. I think that is absolutely bizarre process to go thru to buy a new car. Dealer required options? Allocation for a non-GT car? I have two Porsches in the garage but I bought used. I don’t have new Porsche money and from the sound of it, I’m glad I missed that experience. I’m a Porsche fan, but that seems very Ferrari-esque. Like they are doing you a favor to let you buy a car from them. Maybe that’s just the way I’m perceiving it. Anyway, your Carrera S looks nice. I can’t do black cars (even though my wife’s Boxster S is black) but red interior are my weakness. Enjoy!!

      @Engineerdreamsofficial  Před 24 dny +3

      I really wanted the aerokit and at the time used 911s with aerokits were going at or above MSRP. Waiting for an allocation to buy a new Porsche at MSRP turned out to the the "economical" option. I intend on going to CPO/used route when I'm in the market for a GT car. It seems like many luxury brands exercise their leverage to control the supply/demand curve. In this case, I had to play along with the game to get what I wanted.

      Yeah it is an interesting experience but adds to the exclusivity of the brand. Some folks really enjoy having a car that not everyone can just walk into the dealership and buy. Not a huge deal for me, but it does make the experience more special when there aren't thousands of your same car rolling down the road.

    If you are a prospective customer looking to buy a new Porsche and you play these silly allocation games on base level 911's then you are a fool.
    This type of stupidity and greed is usually reserved for the limited cars (RS cars, Speedsters, anniversary editions etc.)
    Stop engaging in these stupid games, people. You are the customer. You are leading this transaction. They need you in order to have a successful business.
    Get a clue.

    • @Engineerdreamsofficial
      @Engineerdreamsofficial  Před 13 dny

      S and GTS aren't base 911s. Depending on which dealer you talk to, the base 911 are some of the harder allocations to come by (outside of GT cars). However, I get your point that one would expect more of a challenge getting an allocation for a GT car and other ultra-limited trims. Nevertheless, the data highlights the supply and demand principles that many luxury brands use to develop their sales strategy.
      Porsche delivered 50k 911s worldwide in 2023, which was 24% higher than the 2022 production numbers (see source 1). In the US, there were only 11k 911s produced (see source 2). Based on that data, it appears there are far more 911 buyers than 911s coming off the production line. I'm sure there are at least 50K buyers in California alone who would want a new 911 (agnostic of the trim level). This is a strong indication that Porsche is leading these transactions and have plenty of buyer's that will keep them successful for another 76 years.

      911 S trim starts at 131k USD and depending on options can quickly run through the roof. Realistically, a new 911 S that is reasonably optioned will be 150-200k after sales tax.

    Jesus you got turned over on the dealer must haves they forced you in to buying be it the added specs or all the add on warranty packages just to secure a run of the mill 991. A 991s been treated as a special car is bonkers and a sure fire way to loose some serious money.

    • @Engineerdreamsofficial
      @Engineerdreamsofficial  Před 21 dnem

      Luckily I was planning on getting most of those options like the extended fuel tank (which I'm so thankful for now)! I pre-paid for year 2 maintenance and they threw in a warranty package for free so it pretty much evened out. It's a 992, last of the non-hybrid 911s (for now), so it might age well.
