- If any of you have watch Fiona Art you know how beautiful her reverse flower dip pours are. The delicate acrylic pour cells created on the with lacing are pretty amazing.
I've been trying to recreate her pours for a while now and I finally found the perfect way to replicate her acrylic pour flower paintings.

"Imitation is the highest form of flattery." As a huge fan of @Fiona Art who's tried to replicate the reverse flower dip, I'm delighted to have an American pouring medium to try. .
(My pour widower hears, "Hello from Slovenia again!" as he heads in to shave every night - my fifteen uninterrupted minutes.)
I can't find all the ingredients for her medium, unless I order online (and pay shipping). I'd gotten pearl white paint, thinking that the Valejo was a paint mixed with her own medium, not a medium in its own right.
I've got a gallon of the Craftsmart glue so that eventually I can try your take on the bloom technique. Now I've got two techniques to play with over time - rockin' it Leftbrained style.
Thank you both.
These are so satisfying to make for sure. Let me know how they turn out Rebekah.
Lmao cuz my sis is like why do you watch the same video every day?!? I'm like..I don't! Well if I have to hear..."Hello from Slovenia" one more time istg🤣😅😆❤
You are fabulous!!!! I have stayed up nights trying to figure this out! 🤣. You are my hero! 🥇
Glad I could help! Let me know if you have any problems I can help with.
This is so helpful! I appreciate the time you put in to helping others with this form of art. Thank you! I love Fiona's art and have failed time after time with the flower dip. I can't wait to try this! Pour it on!
Thanks Kelly. I was so excited when I got this to work. I've done a dozen tries since.
Fionas dip is a fav. Thank you for all the experiments and teaching you do. Takes the guess work out for all of us, lol. I recently came across another video Fiona did on her US products for her PM. The video posted 4/16/23. She added Amsterdam acrylic binder. Thought you may want to do another experiment. Love learning from you. Thank you so much!
I'll take a peak for sure. Thanks Joan.
😍 you pulled the paper towel off and I gasped. That’s beautiful
👍
"Wow...Look-at-that" I can hear the satisfaction in your voice! Cool paper towel technique. 👍😀
Yeah, this one was so satisfying to see come to life. I had to make a smaller second one after with the leftovers.
I really enjoy your videos, you are a great teacher. Life is really rough right now and the only thing that brings me any peace of mind is watching other artists on CZcams and trying to expand my horizons in this form of art. This piece was absolutely stunning. Hopefully I will be able to try this technique soon now that I have some extra knowledge. Keep creating! We all appreciate you!
Thanks Sari. I hope you get some peace and comfort. If there is anything I can help let me know.
@Sari, I'm so sorry to hear that you are going through a rough time.
I hope things have gotten better for you.
This is why I put my videos out too, so hopefully they can bring someone else a tiny bit of hope, peace, and enjoyment.
God bless you. 🙏🙌🙏🙌
@@TrinaRaysTrekofLife what's your CZcams channel? I'll have to check it out. Thank you for the kind words 💜
Beautiful job David. Fiona's reverse flower dip is my favorite technique. Thank you.☮️💖🎶
You are so welcome. I am so glad to get some good paintings with this technique.
THANKS A LOT, DAVID, YOU ARE A WONDERFUL ARTIST, A GREAT INVESTIGATOR, AND A BEAUTIFUL, GENEROUS GOOD MAN. EVERYBODY LOVES YOU WORLD WIDE. MY BEST WISHES, GREETINGS AND BLESSINGS FROM MÉXICO.
A beautiful flower. Great Job.
Thank you so much 😊 So glad one of these finally turned out.
Thank you for sharing this, it's stunning! I love Fiona and wanted to try this, now I think I will!!
Have fun! One of the best "reveals" in pouring I've ever had. I was so excited when it worked.
Very delicate and other worldly.
Thanks Jense. I love this technique.
Looks like a wildflower. Nice job LBA
Thanks. It is surprising how the details are drying exactly as they look wet. Not many colors/mediums do that.
Good boooyyyy! Thank you for breaking it down with the maths!
Happy to help!
That turned out really beautiful. I'm surprised that just three colours can produce such a stunning result.
Yeah, Fiona only uses a few colors in most of hers. Even black and white makes it stunning.
Absolutely stunning piece.
Many thanks Gary. I do love this technique.
It turned out gorgeous 👍🏽👍🏽 congratulations. That’s great that you gave Fiona kudos. You guys are both so good. I think I’ll try this technique again. Thank you 😊
Done right it is definitely spectacular.
I love your videos. You are a great teacher ❤️🏴
Wow, thank you Miss H.
Fiona would be proud.
Thanks Terri. She is an inspiration for sure.
Beautiful! Great job! I watch Fiona and she is amazing .
She really is for sure.
Loved this video, one of my favorites from your playlist!
Thanks so much Maggie.
Absolutely beautiful! Thank you!
Thanks for watching and the nice comment my friend.
Wow David Congratulations!!!! you did it...this is just so pretty!!! thank you for the breakdown of the paint mixtures that helps a lot.
My pleasure Mary Lou. I am excited to get these ones resined to bring back that deluxe shine.
Hooray!! You did it! 🎉🎉😀 Very nice 👍👍
Thank you 🤗 I was so happy when this one worked out.
I love that offered! So real
Thanks Nancy!
Looks very beautiful…..
Thanks Maria.
Love Fiona and your video is excellent....
Thank you so much Astrid. I love Fiona's work too.
Gorgeous! I love this!
Thanks Joanie.
Thank you, David! Always something new to learn! xx
Happy to help Fran.
Well done 😊 fabulous 😊
Thanks a lot 😊
Thank you so much for your videos. I really appreciate how you break done everything and explain each process. Thank you again.🙂
You are so welcome Tina. Definitely worth a try!
Little 3D Going on
Great painting
Thanks Carl. That is one of the cool things about this technique.
Beautiful
Thank you. These are so fun to do.
Great job!
Thank you! Cheers Deborah.
David, wow, talk about timing!!
I was literally sitting at the table getting ready to make my next video and try one of these reverse dips...
But now that I see you have to have the EXACT special ingredients, I'm going to hold off... Especially since the comments also confirm that this just doesn't work with the supplies we are used to using!!
You have saved me much frustration I'll sure!!
Thank you again!!
Glad to help. These reverse dips that Fiona does are AMAZING!
@@LeftBrainedArtist Yes, she does amazing art!!
I should have known there were several "secret ingredients"!! Lol
I ended up doing the "string pull" tonight 6/15/22 WOW! I WAS AMAZED!! 😲👏
The video is still uploading right now. But for only my 9th canvas... I was truly shocked at my results!!
Love this
Thanks Carolyn. These are some of my favorites too!
So very very pretty. I finally found the paint the pearlized painting pouring medium I mean.
👍👍
I appreciate your videos soooo much! They are pleasing to watch and even more amazing to learn from. Happy you got the technique🥳🥳🥳👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you so much both for the watch and the compliment!
Thank u 4 this! Almost gave up on this tech.! 🙏👍🤘👍👍
You can do it! Took me a long time also. Lots of failures.
Almost there. Woo!
So close I can taste it.
Oh I’m so thankful that you have figured it out and shared it with us!! Like soooo many, I can’t tell you how many failed wonky flowers I’ve done, trying to perfect Fiona’s beautiful flowers!! I’ve even ordered so many questionable chemicals that could have had some explosive results just trying to pull off a halfway decent Flower!! I’m so excited to try this first thing in the morning because I happen to already have all of your ingredients!! Thank you so much for sharing!! Yours turned out perfect!! 💐💖💐
They are so much fun and one of the best reveals of any pouring techniques.
Beautiful. Ty for the info.sometimes success is in the details
So true Laurie. Thanks for watching.
Thank you, I've tried to make the flower I was close but now I'll have to try by your recipe
I hope it work amazing for you Barbara.
OH gosh it's beautiful ‼️‼️‼️Thank you Stunning David you are addicting I want to Learn 😀
It's all about trying new things and considering every pour a learning experience.
Where is your link to cup ? please
Stunning!!
Thank you! 😊 So nice to be able to make these the same way Fiona does!
WOW!!!!
Thanks Becky. You should try it sometime.
It is beautiful before the dip. Gorgeous after dip!
It really is! I so love this technique.
Beautiful!!
Thank you! 😊
Wow! This turned out so awesome. I haven't been brave enough to try this technique yet!
You can do it Mary. It is was the most satisfying "reveal" pulling up the paper towel that I have ever done.
Love this!
Thanks Pam. This was a fun one. Going to try a much bigger one this week.
That's beautiful! You did it!!
😊🙂😉
Fabulous flower
Thanks so much Renee. Definitely satisfying.
David, I just did some experimenting of my own. After watching your video on the Creative Inspirations brand I went to my local Jerry’s to get some colors to try out. Guess what? They also have pearlescent. I also had some Artists Loft iridescent medium from Michaels and ordered the Vallejo online. After testing I found they all work great!! So anyone who can’t find one should be able to find one of the others. Thanks for your videos - I always learn something.
Awesome. Thanks for the info Jacalyn. I have heard the pearlescent work great from a few different people now. Love this community.
That’s a keeper for sure. I haven’t yet done a successful reverse dip. Lifting the napkin/paper towel is a lot harder than you made it look
It totally is. I have failed a number of times at that step.
Well done. It is beautiful.
Thank you so much Vicki!
Oh wow I too have been trying to get a flower like Mrs Fiona's. Good job!!
You can do it! It took me a long time fore sure. Hopefully this helps.
Excellent work!
Thanks Molly. Thanks for watching.
This is a
beauty. Love it.😍😘
Thanks Unni. I really love this technique. So glad I was able to find a way to do it.
Looks real good 👍
Thanks 👍
Very awesome and it turned out wonderful. Thank you
Thank you so much! I might have a new obsession. 8)
Gorgeous thankyou for the video
You’re welcome Theresa 😊
THAT is gorgeous!! When you were pulling up the paper towel I found myself holding my breath! Lol .
Right?! I can't believe it worked. I have failed at this one so many times.
You’re awesome! Yes, you did it!🥳 I have those cups! Just need that Velejo which I’ve been meaning to get for a while 😱now I have the push! Thank you so much! Again for your left brain 👏🏻 always thinking!
You got this Donna!
Outstanding video love it David👍❣️😁👩🎨
Thanks Sandra. So glad to finally be able to make these.
I've been pouring for about a year and am obsessed with Fiona's flowers-being in South Africa limits my product choices sadly, but thank you so much for making this detailed video. Never tried to do this on a tile, will give it a go and with glue now;) Keep 'em coming;)
Good luck Tanja.
I'm soooooooo happy you showed me this technique, I've been going crazy looking for that pearl medium of hers and I had it all along and didn't know it, Lmao!
Thank you soooooooo much!
I Love you for this video!!!
You are an angel in disguise, lol!
I'm excited to try it. ❤❤❤
I love her reverse dip flowers.
SUPER, MEGA, PERFEKT!!! Ich bin sooooo begeistert 😍❤❣. Eine echte Blume 🌺. Lieben Dank für die super Erklärung 🙏🙏🙏. Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland 🇩🇪
Aw, thanks Tanja!
Qué bonito queda!!!
Gracia amiga. Me encanta este tecnica.
Realy wow magnifique sory for my french ❤❤
Êtes-vous invités à discuter en français? Google traduction est facile à utiliser. 😃
The half turn always gets me. It's always lopsided when I do it lol
Yeah, it is not easy to keep everything centered when spinning.
THANK YOU!!! I have been trying to recreate Fiona’s beautiful flowers with US products for a couple weeks now, but haven’t had any luck. Now I know what I was doing wrong.
You are so welcome Kari. I was so glad when this finally worked out.
Stunning.did my first two art pieces..inspired by your videos..thnx for your wonderful videos
Great job Harriet. You have now been inducted in to the Pouring Nation!
Very very well done. I need to revisit this technique. And I need to order some Vallejo medium! Thank you for the video.
Thanks for watching. Good luck Gabriel.
You did Fiona-art justice. I follow her as well. This turned out so pretty. I haven't had the nerve to attempt it yet but I will one day soon. I need to buy the oil first. Awesome job!!
Oil? You mean the pearl medium?
@@LeftBrainedArtist I mean the oil stuff that makes the cells. Sorry I can't remember the name.
Thanks so much. I love how Fiona does this but wondered what ingredients I could use in the US. I also like this little cups!! I'll have to add this to my Amazon cart.
They are super handy for sure. And paper based so I feel a bit better about the waste.
Great Job!! What I would suggest for next time, use a thicker napkin, and don't wet it as much as you did. I think you will have 💯% great results.
I didn't want to a buy a special one while I was testing so this is just a paper towel. I do need to try less wet and completely dry just to round out my experimentation now with this mixture.
I saw in one video (and of course can't recall whose) that someone (a pouring artist) in the USA has "Fiona's" napkins in her online store. If I find it again, I will post on this artist's remarks. (That should keep you reading every one of them). 😉
I'm trying to find out the best and easiest way to prepare a painting with silicone oil on it for applying resin and then the best way to apply resin to an acrylic pour painting. I really like your teaching method. I understand it.
That is a tricky one. Whichever cleaning method you do, make sure to do the corners 4X more than everything else. That is where the silicone sticks and is hard to get out and has cause me the most headaches.
@@LeftBrainedArtist Thank you so much.
Hi! Thank you for all of your tips, tricks & experiments!! I tried the glue and followed your instructions ,but my was very thick!!
But I used artist loft paints
....
You'll have to adjust consistency with water. Kind a tricky balance with a specific technique like this.
@LeftBrainedArtist thank you!
You make it look so easy. Thanks for sharing this video. I'm just gonna have to practice more. I have trouble pulling the paper towel evenly, so it smears too much.
Yeah, that is not easy to manage. I alwasy get one part that is spread out or cutoff more than the others.
@@LeftBrainedArtist exactly what I keep encountering. However, failure is a part of life right. :)
Wow! That's beautiful :) Just found your channel, really like it!
Thank you so much! Hope my videos continue to help you Hanna.
I’m so grateful to you for this video. Please link to the desert cup you used. TIA
Done in the details of the video now. Thanks for reminding me I missed it.
Your videos really help with the way I learn things. So tyvm. Do u recommend putting your glue and water into a squeeze bottle?
You can. I am always doing experiments with different mixtures so I am not using bulk mediums but if you decided on one you like that could reduce prep time for sure.
@@LeftBrainedArtist wow your fast at replying. Ty. I would love to pick your brain one day. ;)
WOW! It's so beautiful! Thank you for this! I've tried to do the reverse dips a couple times and could never get it to work right....I can't wait to try with this recipe!!!! Should the iridescent medium only be used in white/one color, regardless of how many colors you use? Do you know where the cheapest place to get that iridescent medium is, in the US?
Yes. if you use too much you'll just get a mess of a painting. White is best as it lightens the previous colors and gives great lacing.
Also finding a large napkin I the states that works for this has been really hard. To be able to make larger flowers. Her napkins are at least 18 inches. And I can't find any in the state that big. Specially that aren't like stiff oike linen
Paper towels work great. I've never bought any napkins for this.
@@LeftBrainedArtist Paper towels are also too small. Well for me ice tried making ones bigger that just 10x10
Nailed it David!!!!! 👌 Did you ever get a chance to try my PM with Emulsa Bond yet? I'm definitely going to try your glue PM. Thanks for sharing this.
I haven't. I did this one on a whim after the cells worked so well with Craftsmart for the blooms technique.
Hi love your channel! I love the scientific explanation for the pour, especially for beginners. I’m new to this (2 weeks), finding it fascinating just wondering if you tried this pva glue method with Mont Marte paint? I use that as it’s quite cost effective for newbies.I’ve been using Amsterdam titanium white and Vallejo pearl medium for this recipe. Followed the video for the consistency, i also watched how Fiona does that as well. But i just can’t get the lacing. The white seems to get ‘swallowed’ by other colors. So just wondering is there anything to do with the background black color? Maybe Mont Marte black doesn’t help with the lacing in this reverse dip??
I haven't specifically tried MM black. However, if it is taking over you want o keep it a little bit thicker AND you want to make sure you dump off all the excess. You don't want a lot of base coat on yoru canvas when you do this.
Nice😮😁
Did you use tissue at the end..? For pressing it..?
A paper towel slightly damp is what I used Anam.
@@LeftBrainedArtist Oh... Okie 👌 Thanku for answering my question 😊
Is the Craft Smart glue the same as Crafts Smart PVA glue?
I saw a Crafts Smart glue bottle on line that had PVA in big letters on the label.
I believe that is is yes.
Awesome! Is the michaels glue similar to Elmer’s glue all or school glue?
School glue is closer than Elmer's glue is. You don't get good cell action with Elmer's.
Ok, thanks. So you prefer Michaels craft glue over Elmer’s?
Awesome 👏 you nailed it!! Where did you get your dessert cups? I didn’t see the link..
Oh crap. I forgot those. I'll get it updated ASAP Trisha. amzn.to/3lOM9xu
WOW......shortest comment I ever did 🌺
Lol. TYVM Chantal!
Have you use this pearlized pouring medium and any other pores?
Yes but this one gives the most striking results. Straight pours are nice too.
Would iridescent medium behave the same way as the pearl medium?
I am not sure as I haven't tested specifically myself. Probably would be my guess as it has mica or some other shimmery additive which should make your mixture "lighter" when you add it to paint.
I can't get the Valejo pearlescent pouring medium anywhere! Any sources?
The best place for me was Amazon and Blick.com.
and do i need any Silicone, i do also have the pearlite medium
No silicone for these.
Hey David, cam you please help me figure this out? I've done 3 of these like Fiona does with the spirals and a napkin not pouring over a bottle bottom. My ends have been turning out like feathered outward instead of rounded off like a flower. What could I be doing wrong? Thank you so much for just being you!
For me to tell for sure you might have to send me a picture of you my contact form on my website of the same name. However if I had to guess I would say your mixes either too thin or when you’re pulling from the outside you’re bringing the napkin up and then Lydia touch again which pushes that outside edge.
@@LeftBrainedArtist OK thanks!! I really appreciate you. I was very hesitant to mix my paints myself as you might remember I was always inquiring if any of yall would ever do more vids on premixed pour paint. But as you told me... that can get expensive. And it did, rather quickly lol.
i just bought the flotrol, so how do i mix with that for a swipe?
Uhm, this video didn't use Floetrol or do a swipe. Was there another video you were referring to?
WOW VERY BEAUTIFUL !!! WHY DO YOU WEIGHT THE PAINTS AND MIX ? I have not scales.
i am into this now for $400 dollars and no bloom yet. I guess a set of scales and $400 more I will be on my way to success or back to work. Is this why they call us starving Artist.
This isn't the bloom technique like you see other places. This is the reverse dip technique.
Blooms are a whole other ballgame one of the hardest acrylic pour techniques to learn and master in my opinion. If you haven't taken Sheleeart's blooms course I would highly recommend it. czcams.com/video/YQ1MCS2rHe0/video.html
Does size of the canvas matter with the type of technique?
It is hard to scale this technique to something very big. You can do multiple smaller versions or some modified versions but a massive 2 ft by 2ft or bigger paper towel lift is just really hard to pull off
@@LeftBrainedArtist yeah. 16 x 20 is pretty difficult. Thank you for the advice. Your channel has really helped me through my art journey as well.
Is vallejo on Amazon. I havnt been able to find it.
It is but it is usually more expensive. I put a link to both Amazon and Blick in the description for you.
When I got on Amazon to order some Vallejo Pearl Medium, they have a blue label and a white label. The bottle that you and Fiona use has a white label. When I clicked on the link in your description box, the product has a blue label! Do you know if there is a difference and if so, what it is? It's kind of pricey and I don't want to order the wrong thing! Thanks for any help you can give!
I believe these are the same thing just their new branding Tina.
They both show item number 28.158
Thank you. I can't wait to get some and try it out!
