My name on Reddit is "losermobile" for a weird reason
AVAA. Just before the album came out she released a charity EP, with songs recorded just as they were written. And they have no business being as good as they are. Completely amazing and raw. You should check it out.
"i won't let go of your hand" might be my album of the year so far fr!!
She's my favorite right now. She's one of the few writers who makes me break down and cry. Her lyrics are oddly specific to experiences i've had in my life.
I had to put down my dear dog 1 year ago. I spent most of my youth (over 14 years) with him. The first track hit me so hard for this very reason. Putting down a dog is such a difficult and conflicting experience. The way Adrianne described the needle made me fall back right into this expericence. I cried back then, my dad didn't tough. He just closed the eyes of our dear dog called "Rolfi" after he passed. I never experienced a lonlier drive home. I was so used to his bright smile in the backview mirror. I hope you're happy wherever you are buddy. AVAA
Your review made me cry lol. My partner walked in and said, "not judging, but to give you perspective, you aren't crying to the album, you are crying to A REVIEW of the album" that's how powerful it is. AVAA
My dog, Luna passed away late last year on thanksgiving. To be sparing in a youtube comment section, it was a family tragedy and we were all left to grieve, and I went from petting my healthy, happy dog to in the same hour watching her slip away in my arms, as I witness my mother cry for the very first time in my life. Adrianne has been my tip-top favourite artist, since her last album Songs was released. having spent 4 years with her as a close confidant of all my emotions, hearing these lyrics was something I will never forget. Since Luna's passing, I have been out of touch with my inner self, in a very bad way. This album shows me a brighter future, and each song feels like a different special "it will be okay."
It will be. our bright future is just beyond the horizon.
This is a terrific album. I like it even more than her last solo album.I think she's probably the best singer songwriter of her time. Very much in the tradition of the great singer songwriters of the 60's and seventies.
Hey Skye. AVAA. I think you might have overlooked Fool as just a song about friends and moving on through life. I think she's telling all these stories happening around her, all these things that are alive and still the thing that it's on my mind is the departure of her lover. After all, she still comes back to, if you wanna go baby I say okay okay. She's grieving it in peace but it's still grief.
AVAA! If you haven't heard Helena Deland's "Goodnight Summerland", it has a lot of the same qualities and themes as "Bright Future". Hit me in the feels in very much the same way.
AVAA! This album is amazing. You also really should check out the new Julia Holter album, it's beautiful and new music from her is very rare
AVAA. Got into Adrianne Lenker's work pretty recently with Dragon New Warm Mountain, and then listened to some of her catalogue alongside this album. I love this album so much.
AVAA- My fiancé plays their songs in the car all the time so this was a nice video for me. I only recently found your channel but i seriously appreciate your analysis about this because its hard to find my strain of thought sometimes and i can’t help myself but agree with so much. I don’t rate or score artists either i simply love the individuality with everyone and where they come from, Adrianne lenker is definitely one of the artists that hit me (yet again) with a new view for the love of music.
Also this is the second video i watched of yours, the first one was the rxknephew video. Your son was right about listening to old music, yes the algorithm might have affect with views but it would benefit the channel with a more variety of music either way
AVAA, Professor Skye! I’m a huuuge Adrianne Lenker fan! I’m also an even bigger Buck Meek fan! I think they are two of the absolute greatest songwriters out there.
I love this analysis, thank you for sharing. I think you might really love Ignorance by The Weather Station.
adrianne's music and general existence is so comforting to me, no matter how bad things get. also, on not being able to express your feelings i would recommend listening 'not' from two hands if you haven't already
The "wanna sleep in your car while you're driving" line breaks me too, and it leads to what you're trying to place your finger on with Lenkers songwriting. She is one of the most vulnerable songwriters of the modern era. I get why you mentioned Bob Dylan at the beginning, even though I don't care for him much, because he was also pretty vulnerable. She reminds me more of what Joni Mitchell did, or tried to, sing about and has a lot of great contemporaries that I feel similar about like Jason Isbell or John Darnielle.
Adrianne is such a gift. ❤
my dad infected my brain with saying signs out loud backwards on car drives. also spoonerisations "barstucks" ... a constant feeling of 'haha this might be funny' and saying it out loud and annoying loved ones
Nice ! My favourite album of the year so far, can’t wait !
AVAA! I’ve been listening to this album nonstop since it came out, AdriAnne is a huge inspiration for me. This was my first video of yours, enjoyed it a lot 🎉
A.V.A.A! You should check out "Something in the room she moves" by Julia Holter, it's aoty for me so far
Avaa! My theory on fool is that it's another breakup song about the same relationship, and the references to friends are a part of it. The first list of friends are people building a life together. The second list are single people just enjoying doing whatever by themselves. She needs to know where she stands with this person: "we could watch a show (short term fling), we could watch a garden grow (long term love), we could grow old (forever). By the end, she has her confirmation to let this person go on by themselves
AVAA, funny you mentioned 70s dylan, i bought desire and this album together at my local record shop by total chance. the similarities of the feeling of the music ,and even the album covers did strike me after listening to them back to back .
She’s definitely drawing from that rinky dink era of folk like Dylan, cohen, young and Joni. These albums feel classic
Avaa! Bright Future’s Vampire Empire is the third version of the song I’ve heard, there’s also a live on Colbert video on CZcams and a single (both with the whole Big Thief group). This might be my favourite though
AVAA it seems whenever I get into an artist/band one of your videos is first up in my reccommended, usually pretty recently published. Keep it up king
a.v.a.a Thank you for the videos, your analyses truly at times help me understand my own feelings and why certain songs or lyrics make me feel the way I do. Keep crushing it proff
On the song Real House - I listen to a lot of sad music, it's kind of my whole thing. It is still rare for me to cry when I hear sad music though, maybe just because I've become desensitized to it, but this song made me cry just from hearing it. I think it might be a contender for the saddest song I've ever heard.
AAVA. Always enjoy your long, winding discussions. You’re a natural cricket.
AVAA ! I’m in double trouble! Loving this album a lot and glad you shared your thoughts!
AVAA - Thank you for your work. Loved listening to this and the Future/Metro review. This is my AOTY so far. I agree that she should be in the GOAT songwriter conversation!
She’s my favorite, at least!
AVAA!! Thank you prof skye, this video really put my thoughts on this album into words 🫶
Is there a certain place we can make video suggestions? I think *Bad Omens Death of Peace of Mind* would be a great listen. It’s genre blended metal and seamless. The singer Noah is also incredibly talented!
Anyways. Thank you for another fantastic video!
AVAA. Ill have you know I watched both this AND the We Dont Trust You review because I am a man for all season.
BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
AVAA I'm double trouble 😂
Great review, spot on, just one thing though, her name is pronounced Ay-dree-anne ;)
AVAA, although I am a first time viewer :) You're such a charismatic, knowledgeable, open person. Excited to watch your other reviews. I don't know about the name pronounciation though - is that an inside joke I just don't understand? It's Adrianne, pronounced like every other Adrianne, as far as I know.
Love the comparisons to Dylan and Thom Yorke/The Smile, I agree wholeheartedly as a huge fan of all 3. Although Adrianne is in a league of her own. The way she views the world, and the talent she has to convey emotions both specific and universal, simple yet complex, is unparalleled. I missed her unique guitar playing on this record, but it was traded in for even more raw honesty. And that's a worthy trade.
AAVA, I worked as a barista at one point, doughnuts get the hole cut out, which is why filled ones don’t have the hole :)
AVAA This was a beautiful video. One of your best!
AVAA! Double trouble over here... not usually a Future listener, I prefer my jpeg and billy woods, but I've loved Metro's work over the past 4 years and have been content with this new album.
As for AdriAnne, Donut Seam has really stuck with me and is absolutely my favorite other than maybe Sadness As A Gift.
AVAA. It took me five years before running became a thing that I _wanted_ to do regularly.
YES
ikr ?!
AVAA!! Nice to see you discuss this album!
AVAA. She's my favorite singer/lyricist. If you love her, you should check out the band Twain. Mat Davidson, who contributes heavily on Adrianne's new album. Twain is equally as beautiful lyrically and vocals.
Songs is my new favourite genre
Yes Chic Chorea
so excited for this!!!!!!!! loving it so much!
AVAA- I loved this video and you did an amazing job. Do you think you could listen to blond album by frank ocean
AVAA! Were you into the mid-west Emo movement of the 90's and early 00's. Midwest Emo legend Mike Kinsella is releasing a new album that you should review. He has a string of albums under the moniker of Owen and is the lead singer of American Football. Please consider!
I highly recommend the new album from Empress Of
AVAA!! You should check out the new saya gray ep! It’d be cool to hear your thoughts since she doesn’t get the attention she deserves imo
avaa. i wanted so bad for magic to be real.
AVAA stay safe prof
Avaa
Marciology just dropped, get on that!
AVAA professor
BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER?
Only she and Conor Oberst do this type of damage IMO
Day 280 of Asking you to Review Achilles Come Down by Gang of Youth
doughtnut typically dont have a seam cause theyre balls then you make a hole in it or punch out the hole
She pronounces her name Adrianne. Not AdriAnne.
Please, please can someone explain AVAA....
explained @11:13
Totally missed that, thanks.
