Hey ETA: My only question is this: Is there any reason you would know why they couldn't up the memory on the Original Ally to 7500 mt/s via firmware update? I ask because I own a few of the smaller Handheld brands like AoKZoe A1 Pro and they did exactly that. They shipped with lower speed ram and updated them later via over the air firmware update.
If that's true, the RAM in those handhelds you mentioned were already capable of that and were probably downlclocked for stability reasons until the companies decided they had a good mass market firmware to distribute. The ROG Ally's RAM is already functionally maxed out. If you want the new speed RAM on the old Ally, you'll have to solder better quality silicon capable of those speeds into it.

The analog sticks seem to be smaller than the regular ones on the PS5 and Xbox controllers. I don't like the idea of the controllers being fixed to the screen; if you have any problems with the analogs, it will be complicated to fix.

You should have upped the vram a litte to see what kind of performance boost that would give the games. Realistically you dont need 16 gb for the OS especially if dont have multiple tabs and apps open at once. I would have bumped it up to 12 and then left 12 for the OS plenty for both.....
Does this means that XG mobile GPUs are not supported on the new model? I saw that ROG Flow series is kinda discontinued from last year so this might mean the end for XG mobile 😢
Question about the Timespy results at 11:43… is that 17w,25, or plugged in 30w? I’m only getting something close to that when I’m plugged in on 30 with my Ally X.
Only after watching this I realized the Ally x reminds me of the Sega Game gear. I guess it's good progress after 30 years considering this is a portable and powerful x86 computer-dream come true for pocketable PC. As a gaming device, i feel the progress a bit sluggish. The $800 asking price is a bit steep considering the only huge upgrade is the RAM. I guess next AMD APU and handhelds will cost more??
The battery is the biggest update. If you didn’t have an issue with the OG then no need to upgrade. You don’t get meaningful changes otherwise. $900 is a bit much and adding OLED would cost more.
Removing the eGPU port shouldn't be much of an issue because the people using that port are presumably gaming plugged in just as much as using the ROG Ally for mobile gaming, it should be a safe assumption that the ROG Ally X won't see nearly as much desktop use as the v1 ROG Ally.
Been seeing reviews on best buy that some people have been having it not turn on at all even with it plugged in someone had the right trigger completely stop working after 30 mins but mostly the bad reviews were about how the battery will not hold a charge at all or it just won't turn on so take that as you will
2:15 They should not upgrade, it's not something worth spending that much more money into a company that can't even provide proper warranty support. And it's not yet on RDNA4 or Zen5 so it's not a performance upgrade too. It's way better to buy Steam Deck Oled in this price point.
@@dj4monie I understand but I'm specifically in the use case where a handheld and a eGpu dock can benefit for me due to the form factor and the portability. I don't mind the prince nor playing in ultra settings. I'm aware this is an investment with drawbacks, but there is no alternative for now, when you roam a lot and you don't want to carry a heavy Gaming laptop.
I'm halfway through the review but I'm going to go ahead and predict it will be another Windows handheld review without showing suspend/resume with several games.
I was considering getting the Ally X but in the end, I ordered the Steam Deck Oled because of the user experience, community, and the oled screen. If I need extra juice for running triple A games, I'll stream my 4090 7800X3D pc to my deck
Its your choice then. You will miss out on lossless scaling, the best frame Gen thing to happen and you can basically run anything with 60fps or above. The steam deck only has selective games that work with fsr3 and only if the devs modded it in. Lossless scaling works with all games even emulators on the get go.
@@jackykwan2580not everyone craves fake frames, 30fps is completely acceptable for long gaming sessions without a power brick nearby. If you really wanted high fps in games, why even use a handheld? And even if you got an ally, how long would it last without a charger and with frame gen turned on? That thing consumes a lot of power.
You'll see the "user experience" on your own. There was not a day when steamOS worked without an issue. Why would you stream AAA games on small 800p OLED display where in most cases text is so small, you can barely read it? There is a community mostly just because you have to emulate Windows on Linux. That community that makes mods don't really add anything special. It's your choice.
@@martinklein2201a lot games text are readable it's just some games don't have good scaling for smaller screen with text like higher resolution screen ones leaving the 1080p text gets even smaller.

@@brightya sure... But I want to see how smooth they run... Specially, PS3, Xbox 360 and the switch
A beast
Massive L for us who preordered from JB HiFi in Western Australia, came in to pick up mine today but was told that they dont have the units on hand.
Glad I waited
The analog sticks seem to be smaller than the regular ones on the PS5 and Xbox controllers. I don't like the idea of the controllers being fixed to the screen; if you have any problems with the analogs, it will be complicated to fix.
El 26 me llega esta consola. Menos mal que la reservé.
Gracias por los vídeos que haces. ❤
OLED doesn't important when we have huge battery and VRR
If only oleds got vrr support
@@detectivefischer6396 OLED with VRR not happen soon since it's will increase the price if they put it
@@DanterNero I mean if it were an external solution (another company sells it and you have to install it yourself), I wouldn't mind

For the last f###### time OLED ON A HANDHELD IS NOT A SELLING POINT look how many people bought the psvita just because it was oled, oh wait, NOBODY
waiting for Ally X Vs. Legion Go..
Honestly the next computer I buy Ill be one of these with an EGPU. Can you run VR games with a gpu?
They make a steamdeck with more power and 32gigs of ram I'm buying it, but the Ally X has got me thinking instead of a onexplayer.
Gotta put Bazzite on it
Ik ppl talk bad about the lil cardboard stands, but honestly, its better than nothing
The amount of times i have needed a stand for my deck and i have to use my phone stand all wobbly is crazy lol
At least this one stands it up firmly and if u take care of it, it shouldnt rip or break
Guess your that mani in the thumbnail shot you got after shooting the video.
I saw that ROG Flow series is kinda discontinued from last year so this might mean the end for XG mobile 😢
he said it in the video....
With lcd 7.0 screen it's just all z1 just with bigger ram.and bettery unlike steam deck oled wasn't just different ram and screen
The battery is the biggest update. If you didn’t have an issue with the OG then no need to upgrade. You don’t get meaningful changes otherwise. $900 is a bit much and adding OLED would cost more.
It's $800.
@@sonichedgehog36 depends on where you live and it’s still not worth in the US.
Removing the eGPU port shouldn't be much of an issue because the people using that port are presumably gaming plugged in just as much as using the ROG Ally for mobile gaming, it should be a safe assumption that the ROG Ally X won't see nearly as much desktop use as the v1 ROG Ally.
with eGPU GPD G1 review? How OK is the stuff with the asus amd drivers and 7600m?
Been seeing reviews on best buy that some people have been having it not turn on at all even with it plugged in someone had the right trigger completely stop working after 30 mins but mostly the bad reviews were about how the battery will not hold a charge at all or it just won't turn on so take that as you will
2:15 They should not upgrade, it's not something worth spending that much more money into a company that can't even provide proper warranty support. And it's not yet on RDNA4 or Zen5 so it's not a performance upgrade too. It's way better to buy Steam Deck Oled in this price point.
Got mine on order from best buy
when you did your fps comparison did you still have your 8gb dedicated to the gpu?
I was waiting for this test ! What kind of eGPU you would recommended for docked / couch gaming session on a 4k TV ? Thank you !
Doesn't improve game play enough to justify the investment. But talking to gamers is similar to talking to Black women, difficult...
he made a video with an eGPU that gave a huge boost to performance that used the usb c 4.0 port it was the ONEXGPU
Should be no different than a laptop.
Windows is so bad. 😊
What third party options are there out there to improve performance. You mentioned this around @13:31
I remember him using custom voltages and stuff in an older video idk which one though
2:20 hours with cyberpunk is actually really good I want one now if only that screen was OLED
I beg to differ the bigger back button is more comfortable and you can rest your fingers while holding the ally.
If you dont have one, why even speak on it? lol
No its not do you even have one? 😂
the normal ally feels like shit to hold. I have had one since it released and I never feel comfortable holding it.
@@Peraliq after having the new one, it is a understatement on how much more comfortable the ally x is, huge improvement.
How about sd card issue?
That is non existant, it was simply a bad supplier and they have since changed the supplier or they got everying figured out
Really tough to compete with steamdeck on pricing. Ally X is clearly better, but is it $150-250 better?
No one besides phaux has talked about the vram with gaming and had it set to 8gv when testing games
im waiting on a full egpu review to pull the trigger, if can hold 80-90 frames with a egpu at 1440 would be awesome!
That's kinda poop ngl just buy a desktop tbh
@@n64slayer i dont need a desktop boy! but i understand what u saying
I would love to see a test on mmorpg, such as FF14 (or Wow) , just to see how it handle battery life with this kind of games
cyberpunk high settings 1080p without any upscale and it runs over 30fps???? that's insane.
Can you test eGPU and the SD card? Since it only has 40gb bandwidth what will be the recomended gpu.
Steam deck has a massive community compared to Asus lol
Why don't you use the full 8gb of vram as the extra vram and ram added will help with performance. Compare the ROG Ally X where it should benefit the upgrade, please.
Please can you test rdr2 i want to see what kind of preformance you will get thanks big fan love your viss
Can I hook two external monitors? I plan to use this as my main comouting unit 😅
So I wanted to buy it but in Hungary Asus priced it for 1200 euro
I’ll wait for the ally 2 for the same price.
Bro has everything sponsored and never speaks bad about a product definitely not trustworthy
Including benchmarks with famegen on is a very scummy move.
Take a shot for every “arr oh jee al eye”
