  • Dunfanaghy is home to the World famous Jazz and Blues festival which takes place next week and it is also the latest stop of our electric road trip along the Wild Atlantic Way. We met up with local author and historian, Cary Meehan, who kindly talked to us about the history of the town and the sights that are to be seen there.
We also heard how Dunfanaghy was once a thriving port and fishing village and how during the First World War, over-cutting of the grass for use as fodder for the war effort, on the surrounding sand dunes led to their destabilisation and the subsequent movement of the sand blocked up the river. As a result, a lake, now known as New Lake was formed and the sand also silted up Dunfanaghy harbour.
